    Moose shed their antlers when the rut is over and their testosterone levels dip. This along with other hormones causes the base of the antler to losen up and fall off eventually. There very simplified answer to the question you asked but didnt even bother to answer

      It IS after the rut, but not RIGHT after, it’s usually in late winter through spring. That’s why most shed hunting is done through Feb - April. With March being the favorite due to the weather changes.

      That’s explaining how the shedding happens. It doesn’t explain the functional reason for them to be shed each year.

      its possible the video was cut short since - it gets shed to preserve/store energy in winter (after the breeding season is over, they don't need to worry about upkeep lol)
