England winning the World Cup in 1966 was my first real memory of a major sporting event. Little did I realize that I would probably never see England achieve such sporting greatness again. My mom took me to the cinema to watch this documovie, and little did I realize how much I took my mom for granted. Wish I could go back and relive those 90 minutes. Miss you so much mom.
Remember watching this film as a kid. I wasn't born at the time so I almsot felt like I was there afterwards. The screenplay was by distinguished journalist Brian Glanville whose books/articles are always worth a read.
I went to the group games at Goodison and Old Trafford with my dad and granddad. I was 10 and I can recall the sights and sounds of those games. I didn't go to an England game because they were all in London, but I saw Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, and Bulgaria, and later North Korea. Watched the semi-final and final on TV.

Em 1966, com com 15 anos eu trabalhava de Office-boy no centro de S.Paulo, e lembro-me bem que o Brasil estava mal naquela Copa e no jogo contra Portugal, teve um famoso Jornal com a seguinte manchete: Pelé Jogai Por Nós, o Brasil perdeu e saiu fora da Copa, sendo desclassificado na primeira fase. Mas o tempo é o senhor da razão, 4 anos mais tarde no México, ganhamos a Copa de 1970 de forma brilhante, com a seleção dando aula de como jogar bola, e o Pelé jogando uma barbaridade. Saudações! a todos.

Thank you for making this available. As far as I know, it has never been released on DVD so every copy is based on the VHS release at 4:3 ratio. When it was shown in cinemas back in 1966/67 it was in full widescreen.
The West German team took defeat very well, very sportsman like. If you compare them to the Argentine team and the Uruguayan team. This team formed the spine of the team that went on to dominate international football, by becoming European champions in '72 and World Champions in '74 .They were almost invincible in the 70's and are favourites to win most major tournaments from this era and on.

Funny how they forgot to mention the referee in Argentina-England was german and at the same stage the referee in Uruguay-German was english. Strangely enough, both games ended up in controversy, with several south american players sent off.

Es cierto. Lo de Pelé fue vergonzoso. Ante Bulgaria en el primer partido sufre entradas muy violentas. Con Portugal es pura caza al hombre. Yo vi ese partido y la persecución es implacable: lo derriban cae, se levanta y lo vuelven a derribar. Portugal, para mí perdió simpatías, a pesar de que jugaba un fútbol excelente.
Brasil mal escalado. Gente que não merecia ser cortado foi . O time ideal seria: Gilmar,C.Alberto, Djalma Dias, Orlando e Paulo Henrique. Roberto Dias e Gerson . Jairzinho, Tostão, Pelé e Edu.
A final mais emocionante que assisti em copas. As pessoas gostam de não valorizar o titulo da Inglaterra, apesar da Alemanha ter um timaco, a Inglaterra também tinha e mereceu. Bob Charutos comandou o time, Banks pegou tudo, e Hurst decidiu. E naquele gol discutível a bola entrou sim. Veja o lance mostrado na lateral, na linha e fundo.

E uma curiosidade as seleções do Brasil e da Itália eliminadas no mesmo dia 19 de julho de 1966 e também as mesmas seleções jogavam a final da Copa seguinte vencida pelo Brasil. E também foi a única final de uma Copa do Mundo realizada em um sábado 30 de julho de 1966.
Só se for na arquibancada com seus 22 anos de idade na época. O árbitro da final de 66 foi o suíço Gottfried Dienst, além do único juiz brasileiro desta Copa foi Armando Marques no jogo Alemanha x Espanha. O Wright apareceu na arbitragem nos anos 1980, apitando no Mundial de 90 na Itália.
Eusebio was the king of this world cup!!!! Portuguese team officials were paid off to have the semi final on England home field. Portuguese team was going to win the world cup but the Queen would not have that! Portuguese team had several black players.......she could not have that!
