    Whisk(e)y cocktails are great. There is time for both straight whisk(e)y and cocktails, but I strongly encourage people who love this spirit to start experimenting more with the many great cocktails out there. Thanks for the book review and the cool recipe and video; Cheers!

    Also, I believe the rye and ginger came out of Prohibition. Rye was Canadian whiskey which was as close as Americans could get to straight rye at the time. The name stuck after Prohibition and on the eastern seaboard Canadian whiskey was a substitute for rye whiskey which was an American whiskey

      Never knew the connection between Canadian Rye and American Whiskey. It is something I wasn't aware of, to be honest. I like the history behind it. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice video today. Back in my university days, rum & cokes and 7 & 7s were common... and sweet. Today I have less of a sweet tooth, so maybe I will try this drink with and without the simple syrup, in case the brand of ginger ale I have brings enough sugar to the mix.

    • @JSOS
      @JSOS  Před 3 lety +1

      We all had this moment of rum & cokes; I think-the evolution of life 😂. If you use dry ginger ale, you will need a little be of the sweet modifier. Otherwise, I found it too dry.

    • @keithdixon3262
      @keithdixon3262 Před 3 lety +1

      I think the London Essence ginger ale you used has about 4g of sugar per 100ml. Here in the US, the major brands have 10g sugar per 100ml. So I think I will try it both with and without the simple syrup and see which seems better balanced.

    • @JSOS
      @JSOS  Před 3 lety

      @@keithdixon3262 Yes, I love the London essence because of their low sugar products.

  • @matthewgabbard6415
    @matthewgabbard6415 Před rokem +1

    I think the more neutral Canadian works best with ginger ale. Especially with its nuanced rye spice. I find it actually works better than a straight rye which overwhelms the ginger ale. Maybe a lime garnish or a 1/2 ounce lime juice or maybe lemon

    • @JSOS
      @JSOS  Před rokem +1

      I love Canadian because it is so smooth. Usually, when I make my highball, I use lemon slices or a little be of lemon juice. Like works as well. I guess it is personal preference, and find out what works best for you and your taste.

      @cristianpuscasu1245 Před 3 lety +1

      @@JSOS Yes, the sound seems a bit off... try getting it even closer. Maybe if needed reframe the shot. If not try getting a better microphone, but even them I would try to get it as close as I could. Maybe even a lav mic, or simply a boom mic with a longer boom arm than gets closer to me but still outside of the shot. ;)
