Cricket is the second largest played sport globally behind soccer. Cricket is similar to baseball that you have batters, bowlers (pitchers), wicket keeper (catcher), with 11 players in each team. The wicket keeper is the only fielding player allowed to wear gloves (mitt), all over fielding players use bare hands to catch the ball. A cricket ball is made of cork in the centre that is covered by hard leather, that is stitched around the centre to join the 2 halves. There are 6 separate stitches made to join the 2 leather halves. The cricket ball weighs 8oz.
Cricket is now played in 3 different formats: Test Cricket (Traditional) is played over a maximum of 5 days and you still may end up with a draw. The game is played for 6hrs each day, with 2 meal breaks. One Day Cricket is played in one day, with each team bowling 50 overs. An over consist of 6 balls bowled by the bowler (pitcher), so in total 300 balls are bowled. T20 is the shortest played format of 20 overs (120 balls) by each team. If the score is level at the end, they play A Super Over (another 6 balls each ream) to get a result. If still drawn, its more complicated to explain how they determine a winner. If the ball is hit into the crowd, it is returned back to the game and used again, unlike baseball where the baseball is kept by the lucky spectator.

Cricket is the baseball for most every other country in the world. There are similarities and some similar skill sets but they are completely different.
Guys, I love cricket and have done all my life in the UK (Scotland) but I couldn’t even begin to explain it to you without being in the room with you…..for hours btw!!!
Further to my earlier description of cricket, I mentioned the cricket ball is made with 2 half pieces of hard leather and highly polished, this is because 99% of the balls bowled by the bowler (pitcher) hit the ground before they reach the batter, so it has to hold up from being scuffed up, damaged and the leather becomes softer over time. The 1% bowled are full tosses which are rare, it is where the ball does not hit the ground before reaching the batter, just like in baseball.
In Test cricket that can last 5 days, once a ball has been used for 80 overs (480 bowls), the ball can be replaced by the fielding team and another new ball is then used. Sometimes the ball is replaced before the 80 overs, because it is out of shape (not symmetrically round, or it has been damaged). The ball is replaced by another ball that has been used for about the same number of overs as the one being replaced. A box of 12 used balls is brought out for the umpires to select from . This is so there is no advantage to either the bowler or the team batting.
There are 3 types of bowlers in cricket - Fast 75-95mph, Medium 60-80mph, Spin 45-60mph. As a pitcher in baseball, they have different grips to create a different type of ball flight, the bowler has the same even though the ball hits the ground first. As mentioned previously that the 2 halves of hard leather are joined by six individual stitches, the stitches are known as the ‘seam’. This is where both the Fast and Medium bowler use to their benefit, by making the seam hit the ground whilst it rotates vertically. Once the ball hits the ground, depending on the grip that the bowler has used, the cricket ball will swing left or right or just go straight ahead, confusing the batter. A Spin bowler who bowls the slowest is like a magician, they can make the ball dance. By using many different grips and depending on how fast they bowl, how much spin (revolutions) they put on the ball, the ball could turn do up to 90-degrees. A Spin bowler is normally introduced once the ball has become old and scuffed up.
