@@matthewcarlon7122 Simon and Garfunkel had a very sweet sound regardless of what song they were doing. I always liked this song, but now I look at the words: "'Fools,' said I, 'you do not know, silence like a cancer grows'". That requires some strong emotion. You're not being the prophet that is warning the sinners by speaking softly to them.
But that is what Simon and Garfunkel did. All their songs are sung sweetly. That was just their sound.

You can hear his voice goes higher and higher in pitch with the volume also slowly increasing for the grand crescendo of the last verse. I think that's why it brings so many to tears . He builds it up so well that you can't help but be drawn into it. The original IMO tells the story, visually as well as his vocals and the Conan version is about his vocals, of course but the instruments behind him gives me a different but still powerful vision of the song. It was brilliantly done!

@@Agucci_1 I'd like to see them listen to MUSE, Matt Bellamy vocally pours himself into their songs like that. They elicit the same. Listen to their song "Aftermath" its beautiful and constructed almost the same as this song, in the sense that it slowly builds to a grand crescendo. "Aftermath" by MUSE actually made me tear up a bit (this one did too) when the chorus said
      "From this moment
      From this moment
      You will never be alone

I still tear up! Such a powerful yet soft voice David has. I love how they stripped the song down to piano, bass drum, acoustic guitar and a voice. Gives the song the depth Simon and Garfunkel's version didn't do. Down with the Sickness and Stupify by Disturbed is more of their usual sound. Enjoy 😃😎

The first time I heard this on Amazon music, I cried. (I still cry when I listen to it.) It is such a powerful song and it speaks volumes to me. The singer David Draiman has such a beautiful voice and such a fantastic range! He doesn't have to strain his voice. It's pure magic. After listening to it several times, I started searching the internet for videos and saw both videos (Conan live version) and this version. I never LISTENED to the words in the Simon & Garfunkel version. David Draiman makes you listen to the words. I have a new appreciation for Simon and Garfunkel, especially Paul Simon, because his words are still so poignant today! People talking without speaking. People hearing without listening. Everyone has their own take on what this song means. I look at it more politically. I think the neon god is trump and thank God, trump wasn't re-elected. With a new administration, hopefully people will come together, stop racism in its tracks and start listening to all people. We are all immigrants. The only true American born Americans are the Native Americans and we stole their land. I hope we can all come together as Americans and right some wrongs in this new administration.

    Excellent review ladies!I
It always means more when reviews of this song come from people who know and love the original by S & G. You definitely need to review their live performance of this song on Conan. David Draiman was sick that day, yet he delivered a performance for the ages, complete with an orchestra. So good was the performance that Paul Simon put the video on his social media and contacted the group to congratulate them for singing the 'greatest cover of one of his songs ever'. (something he has never done before or since). This performance was so spectacular that, earlier this year, Conan O'brien celebrated it for becoming the first video from his show to hit 100 million views on youtube.

David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance. Good job Grannies! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light" and "Violence Fetish" by Disturbed too. They're a tad heavier ..lol..

I've watched this video and the live version and most of the reaction videos available so many times(probably over 100 times) I now have this song embedded in my psyche. I hear it in my head word for word. Even when other music is playing. I don't mind. It's that good.

You wanted to know what the Disturbed fans think of this song. As a fan of Simon and Garfunkel and of Disturbed I can say I was moved to tears by this version of the song. If you really want to know what they sounded like when they made their splash you might want to listen to Down With the Sickness (it has a weird bit in it that is off-putting for some right near the end and the song is phenomenal and is their break-in skyrocket song) and if you wanna know how amazing they still sound today then I'd recommend If I ever Lose my Faith in You, which is a softer and harder sound for David's incredible voice. As an "old enough to be a Granny and not yet one" lady, I'm really loving finding your channel! Keep up having fun, you rockin' babes! :D
