    G'day guys, just dropped in to say when you use the wings and tentacles of squid and cuttlefish for bait you're throwing away the best part. I'd rather eat them and save the rest for bait. Another little tip, with both if you want them nice and tender, no matter how big and thick they are, marinate them in milk, just plain old cows milk, nothing else. Thinner bits are tender anyway but thicker pieces really do get very tender doing this. Cuttlefish with bodies half inch think I leave for about 24 hours and they will melt in the mouth. Once you had them soaking you don't need to rinse them, just pat dry them with paper towel and add whatever coating you want.

      Mick's South Aussie Adventures agreed, throwing away the wings and tentacles.....what a waste!!

    • @lessoriginal
      @lessoriginal Před 4 lety +4

      That's the *exact* thought I had. I was mortified when he said he was gonna use the best bits for bait.

    Years ago my fiancee and me were staying in a secure compound in Fuengirola in Spain. My Fiancee just wanted to stay within the compound. I wanted to explore. Found a local fresh fish shop and bought a cuttle fish. Bought some peppers, onions, tomatoes, a pinch of sugar to offset the acidic tomatoes, and red wine and made a stew . Had it with rice. Fantastic and delicious. My fiancee wasn't impressed. Stupidly I married her and it all went downhill. My point is that if your fiancee doesn't like seafood, then save a lot of time and effort by ditching her sooner than later !! Thanks for the brilliant videos :)

    Those big tentacles with the drip palm are what the squid uses to catch it's prey with in the wild. They use these to quickly catch prey and draw it swiftly to its beak.

You can get fresh ginger and freeze it, so its always there when you need it, softer bang than the ground ginger. Top marks lads...…...keep the tentacles for yourselves......feed the congers the crap!!

    You should try kneading the squid and cuttlefish with salt prior to rinsing. Get a bowl, add a cup of salt and knead it. It'll tenderise and remove alot of the slime.

    In the event you don't know, the cuttlebone that you get from the Cuttlefish is cleaned and dried and sold to hang on the side of cages for birds like parakeets and Cockatiels and other birds that they use to scrape their beaks on to keep them from continually growing.

    Two questions, cuttlefish the part you say you find on beaches.?
    What people buy & put in canary cages?
    The other question is, you mention a lot.
    The leftovers from cleaning " bait '" .
    Good for catching eals,Sorry forget what you call them, Sorry.
    The eals, good for something,?
    Just asking, don't see you eating them.

    the noodles you cooked where rice noodles so you only had to put them in hot water for three min and then drain otherwise they keep cooking and get mushy. Unlike the pasta which is made from flour and you cook in boiling water for 7 min for al dente (depending on the thickness/cut of noodle)
