On all the horse training videos, the horses are usually well trained and behaving well. I’d like to see a video with a horse that doesn’t behave. Well that you’re teaching to learn to pick their back feet up.

This horse hasn't ever been touched before. So I reckon I am confused by your request?! Cheers - Travis

Thank you so much for such small, clear, nonchalant instructions. I will start doing this with my filly tomorrow.

@@ellistonequinesolutions3795 Romi did amazing! She is 11 months old now and I can barely touch her leg or just get in position and she'll pick up her feet. She's my ferrier's dream baby. I am truly blessed, thank you for helping me train her happily and safely.

Question: I have never had trouble with any of my horses in hoof care. BUT, I have an 11 year old mare who just plain kicks when you touch anywhere below her hip muscle. She has NO trouble giving me her front feet BUT, she is kicking regardless of how comfortable she is with touch when I go for the rear. I really do not want to make it a negative experience for her so I have avoided using my lead to catch the rear feet. Do you have any advice for me?

I need dome advoce here. I habe a twelve year old that really should be used to foit care by now but still pins thise ears, evades, and kicks. I have desensitized her each time and gine very slow regardless amd everytine, same response. I cannot hitch her up because she us uncomfirtable there and will snap the halter amd i cannot tie ger up near a wl be ayse she dirsnt like closed soaces. I uave used the lead too but still,...it us a long and syressful situation. How can i get her to submit wothout making it a negative exoerience for her?

Howdy, looking at your problem set, I would say that the desensitization is key and that you're on track. The main ingredient its to add more pressure with a faster tempo to stimulate each time. When they stop reacting, you stop. Give her time to think and then continue a little firmer to stimulate her and repeat. What I am saying is do a little a lot. Increasing a little more each time. For tight spaces and being tied to a hitching post... ground work and progressive desensitization while they're moving is important. I have posted a video on this channel showing how to accomplish this. Everything you're working on is emotion control. You 're bringing her emotions up and then back down. Next time you bring her emotions up, it wont be so high of a bar and will come down quicker. Best of luck to you. - Travis

I have a 5 yr old Mustang also. How long should it take to get them comfortable with back hooves? I have been doing this for a week and she is still afraid.

Jack, when that situation arrives... I would recommend teaching the horse to lead by it's hooves. I have a video on this channel that explains how to to this. Titled Leading A Horse By Each Hoof (Part 2 of 6). After the horse gains confidence in following a feel. I would go back to this video. I hope this helps you out. Cheers - Travis
