I'm a retired recreational mountaineer and have summited some worthy peaks in Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, Canada and South America. For every summit accomplishment, I've failed to make it to the top 5 times more often because of bad weather, unstable rock/snow conditions, technical difficulties beyond my skills. Peaks above 18,000 feet even with acclimatization training I turned into a helpless creature barely able to descend without assistance from my mates and that taught me a lesson. Don't push beyond your limits. So I never aspired to do world class mountains.
The oxygen supplemented fixed ropes on Everest and other mountains have become a carnival of pay to play rich supposed athletes looking for bragging rights. Sorry, I never would stand in line sucking on a tank for a summit.
My summits were modest but every one of them was a wonderful experience and an accomplishment done in alpine style which I treasure. Can't brag on them but my mates and me share the memories, some of them pretty epic adventures and that's enough for me.

Irony of his last name, as a blizzard killed so many, even expert climbers.

I like the videos of those hiking just to basecamp and back. All of those cool towns and stops. Its one of my fantasies. I hear people sometimes even have to get a helicopter out hiking to basecamp due to edema.

Is that because once they've climbed it, they stop thinking? Think they've done it? Great video😉😊

To heck with climbing snowy mountains. I climbed Huaya Picchu in Peru and it was amazing! Beautiful with just a hint of danger. Everything was so verdant, flowers everywhere, we saw hummingbirds and a giant centipede on the way back down. U don't see much flora or fauna on a bleak ice covered rock like Everest and u aint gonna catch hypothermia and frostbite climbing a lovely temperate mountain in Peru. Everest sounds like a punishment to me.
