I think I can speak for everyone when I say we love the 335 content!
I knowwww, lol! Trying to mix it up, but I'll always have N54 content for you guys. About to go hard on the M3 though.
Jake Spence Looking forward to the videos to come! The best BMW content on the Tube!
#metoo
For anyone that's going to do this, I'd also like to point out to be careful with the way you orient the V-band clamps. They can get in the way of the wastegate actuators and cause problems. Also, if your O2's are rusted and fused onto your OEM downpipes, I would recommend swapping them out if you use an impact gun to take them off because they will likely be damaged and throw your AFR's out of wack. Don't ask me how I know.
Yes! This is a great point that I'm aware of but didn't think to mention in the video. Tighten the v-band clamps in the same orientation as you removed them. And also a good tip on the O2 sensors.
Thanks for posting this . You saved me a lot of headache before I do this. Seriously thanks for chiming in with the details . It's always in the details .
Also maybe don’t use an impact on the sensors unless it’s a last resort situation and you have new ones to put in 👍🏼
What if I buy some used Catless pipes
@@Ept.jose47 same process
My 335i felt and sounded soooooo much better after downpipes. It's a 100% must do on these cars.
Truly a great N54 mod! I remember when I first installed them on my 135i like 5 years ago lol.
Bro the quality of this content makes me want to cry tears of joy
I'm so glad to hear that, thanks for watching!
Right! 😂😂💯🙌
This is definitely the and most accurate and comprehensive DIY video for DP replacement. Well done!
Great content! I love the fact that you do all the work yourself whereas some people in other videos tell you what to do... but they are shooting footage at a shop having someone else perform the work for them.. keep up the good work
If I can add on to this I would definitely say remove that heat shield covering the passenger motor mount. You’ll thank me later. Bend that clamp that connected the oem catalytic converter to the transmission. Lastly. Good luck with that rear turbo clamp. It was a pita! Give yourself a solid 7 hours to do this if it’s your first time. I’ve been working on cars for quite a while as well. Not an easy diy
In Australia this job is not for the faint hearted. Difficult level 10. Also going catless, tune is 100% required. Rear O2 sensors will through a engine fault code, and put you in limp mode.
I just wish there were more videos like this for the 535i
Facts bro
1:47 I couldn’t agree more 🙏🏼
9:07 these little morsels of invaluable info that will guarantee success are the reason I stay watching this channel 🤙🏼
If you’re a 335Is owner beware:(IDK if it’s just me) ARM catless DP have bad fitment for o2 sensors. There isn’t enough clearance between the sensor and the pipe itself so I went with vrsf way better fit.
Picking my car up tomorrow I just installed downpipes what good timing 😍
Heck yeah! Enjoy!
congrats on the new gig, laying the foundation for next generation of e82 n54 owners
this is a fantastic diy for any new comers into the platform. ive been enjoying the frequent videos this past week or two
Thank you! Glad to hear that, thanks for watching 👍
tip for next time, don't have music playin at the end of the video while you're finally doing the sound comparisons
You should pick up some 1/2" 6 point impact sockets and extensions. You get a lot of torque loss with that adapter and the extensions. You get torque loss with impact rated ones too, but chrome are way worse. And whenever I'm unbolting exhaust components, I always try to soak it in PB Blaster first to give myself the best chance possible.
Yeah, I definitely could use some more/better tools lol. I usually just buy what I need when I need it and let the tool collection grow from there. I put more money into the mods/maintenance of the car than I do the tools. Good tips tho!
The bad thing about buying an n54 with mods already on it (downpipes, exhaust, intercooler, tune) is I can't compare to how it was stock, but I did save money!!
True, but I think you did the right thing. So expensive to modify your own car. If you know what you want, buy something that is *properly* built first.
@@jake_spence Hey, thanks for the reply!
Shout out from Chicago!
I installed the ARM 7" intercooler. It's a really nice piece and fitment was excellent.
Any time you are going to touch a nut that's part of the exhaust system you always want to shoot it with some PB then wait 15 mins then take a crack at it. Anyway, Great video man, you are N54/5 inspiration :)
Thank you sir! I'm not sure why I didn't bust out the PB earlier lol.
The memes are so dank in this video, and right at the perfect place! I love this channel so much
Haha, thanks man. Glad you love it!
I’m happy that you are a logger that has a lift when working on cars. Others spend $$$ on cars and then working under their car like a caveman. So much better this way
Bro I appreciate how you use/review budget parts. A lot of guys go nuts buying crazy expensive parts. I’ll be adding the same charge and down pipe you have👌🏽, just got my 335i 2 weeks go as project car.
Downpipes make a huge difference! I just got mine on there too. Building my own n54 335i on my channel, trying to get it FBO with M3 bodykit conversion. Just starting my channel but it helps keep track of things.
Love it! CZcamsrs like yourself make it possible to own and maintain an n54 Vehicle🙏🏼 Love my e90 335i
Awesome vid mate! This helped clear up whether or not I'll need to get new v-band clamps and turbo-to-downpipe gaskets when I do mine soon. Looks like it's not necessary, but I know it's fairly subjective and doesn't hurt to do them for peace of mind as well.
I found this vid because I got as far as trying to remove the down pipes, but the fukn O2 sensor up high that you said was too cramped to get, WAS TOO CRAMPED TO GET! lmaoo so now I will unplug them at the other end like you did. Thank you bro!
Now try doing this on an xDrive n54 car. I had to drop my subframe to do this. Took me a good 5 days to get the whole job done
Yeah, it's a PITA on X-Drive because of the front diff lol.
best mod gives it a nice exhaust tone as well as power gains!! first thing i did on my car lol
Couldn't agree more!
How's the smell please and any check engine light
geo745don no smell because i still have secondary cats, and no cel because i flashed a tune for them after the install 👍🏼
@@kkrieter3355 ok thanks, one last question what tune did you flash. I'm running jb4 with Mhd
Back end flash
geo745don i used mhd stage 2+ but now i have a protune, mhd tune was great but i just wanted to push the boost a little higher
Wya homie? Waiting for more videos been watching your channel for a long while
Favorite bmw CZcamsr by far. I have a FBO 135i, but it’s an n55 :( keep up the great content!
Thanks man! I appreciate you. Enjoy that N55 life!
N55 gang!
FINALLY!!! SOMEONE ELSE WITH AN XDRIVE MODEL !!!
This is not x drive lol
Great video brotha not only did you help with the install but you also help me fined a tuning software!
Great info, just finished doing my downpipes. How did you fool the computer, mine keeps throwing O2 codes, emission codes?
I’d like to know aswell
Thanks for this video Jake! This is literally next on my list.
Glad you help! You'll be glad you went catless.
Hey bro- are you ok? Haven’t seen a new upload in a really long time. You are one of my favorite youtubers for n54 content
Love your shirts. Got 2 of them and fit/look great! Great work as usual!
Awesome! Thank you! So glad you like them 👌
Hey bro are u ok?
I think I'm going to start a 535i channel since their not that popular. Great video.
Yo that cut away got me at 5:12 lol
Even I died laughing at this while editing it lol I'm glad it's appreciated 😂
long time no upload, got couple recommendations lol, my sunroof drain clogged!!! omg my backseat & driver seat floor were full w 3 maybe 4 inches of water... & ik yours is a manual, but for us auto 135i owners, elaborate on throttle reset!!! been binge reading about it all day bout to give it a whirl see if the hype is real cheers 🍻
Thanks so much Jack, I would do the same on my next mod. Clear content and illustration.
For seized bolts, or just doing the downpipe swap I''d say just use a dremmel or something to cut it, takes less time than gambling if it works or not loosening it :P
Yeah, that's definitely an option but I knew I'd be able to take care of it this way. But if you're still struggling, a cutoff wheel will go a long way! Unless it's one of the top bolts.
Always like your content. Videos are well done. Thanks so much!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching 🙏
Jake Spence decided to do inlets at the same time. Started out cleaning my intake valves. Then replaced my oil pan gasket. Transmission refresh, ECS diff bushings, M3 front control arms, downpipes and inlets. Should be a different animal when I’m done!
Is this going to throw any lights?
I don’t particularly love BMW but I do love the content your car is beautiful❤️👌
Looks good. I always loosen the exhaust hanger that bolts to the transmission to allow the exhaust to more easily move towards the back of the car for clearance. Looks like you did this at 6:52 but you didn't mention it.
The hanger for the catback exhaust? Or for the downpipes to mount to? For whatever reason, this car didn't have an exhaust hanger. But I did show loosening the bolts to the downpipe bracket.
@@jake_spence I'm talking about the hanger for the exhaust, not the one for the DPs. Looks like the mounting bolts were removed at the timestamp I referenced.
you don't need to use o2 sensor socket as you already dropped your downpipe. you can use normal socket to remove o2 sensor.
Yes 335 content!!
A crowd favorite lol.
Any comparison 0-60 times?
Loving the 335i content.
I chose not to compare that this time because there are too many outside factors. Traction, weather, shift speed and boost levels. Unfortunately none of those will be exactly the same, potentially skewing the results.
Love the in depth tutorials!
with the catless dps does it smell like gas in the cockpit?
Cool video, but when at the end when showing sound differences, playing music along with it kinda ruins it.
Great DIY Jake. This will be the second mod on my e93 when I found one. First will be the JB4. Dutch regards, Nico.
Don't go JB4 alone. Piggy backing the ecu is becoming too inconsistent with out at least a back end flash. MHD custom tune is the way to go.
@@Chattsteezy oke, thanks for that. I didn't know the MHD back end flash was a must! 👍
Nico Dreessen no prob 👌🏻
Thanks Nico! I love the JB4 and have run it on all of my N54s. Yes, it's even better with an MHD backend flash, but that's not 100% necessary until you get a few mods on the car. Enjoy!
Hey Nico
Hoe ga je dat doen met de APK, of is de auto alleen voor het circuit? Gr Armando
Awesome content, very useful and enjoyable. Thanks Jake. I'm new to the channel. Quick question, where did you get those head lights from ? The ones on the black 135i. And is it possible to change from normal halogens to those ?
I think great idea to do Catless downpipe with stock cat back - I love the skin of my stock n55 catbacj
Great video bro !
Thank you, glad you liked it!
I love the content !
Thanks for watching!
Jake, love the channel! What is your strategy to pass emissions?
Love the shirts, just ordered 2!
You the man! Thank you!
Hey Jake, going with a doc race 6266 single turbo kit on my 135i. Is the JB4 with single turbo firmware and MHD BEF a good tune to run? Only looking to make 500 whp on pump gas at the moment.
Also how was the fitment when you installed yours? I’ve seen some people have issues with the exhaust housing rubbing up against the strut tower.
Fitment on mine was good! It’s close to the strut tower but not touching. Heat shield between the turbo and motor is tight tho. You’ll love it tho! JB4 with MHD BEF is plenty good. Use code N54SINGLETURBOFTW when you buy from Doc Race, it’ll save you $100 ;) only valid til Aug 28th tho. Enjoy!
Have u ever tried Change the lux 7 lights n the two tubes u put bulb up to has one side ever melted
I'm not sure what exactly you're asking...
When u use the touch u want to only heat up the nut focus the flame on the nut and not the bolt u want the nut to expand and not the bolt that’s what my auto tech teacher told me
Good to know, thanks!
Still in the middle of putting mine on and im just gonna say this is way harder than it looks
Thanks for the vid. How did you get rid of the constant check engine light?
Still dealing with it for now. JB4 used to have an auto-clear function but it seems that doesn't work anymore. I think loading a JB4/MHD BEF will eliminate the code for catless downpipes. Otherwise there are wired in DP fix options.
that cut at 15:45 absolutely killed me!
question.. will the 335xi pipes fit a 535xi?
5:10 I wonder what became of Welven Da Great 🤣
I’m smoking exhaust since install
Do u have to tune if you do down pipes on 135i ?
Awesome video thank you!
Moving to Michigan soon. Hopefully we can meet and make some bmw content together
I liked your charge pipe lesson. How
would I get an air duct for the front
bumper, to feed air up to the airbox?
Is that a Dinan exclusive part #?
Hi Jake loving the videos. I do have a question. I have a 2013 335is convertible and was wanting DPs but had heard catless may cause exhaust fumes with top down. What do you or other viewers think? Thanks
II NEED HELP GUYS!!!! I could use some help on my 335i. i bought some bimmer bros downpipes and i got the rear one on. but i cant get the front to clamp to the turbo. I had to buy an after market v-band clamp cause the oem one wont clamp. Is there a trick or something to get it back on? I need some help real quick
Great vid my friend.
Can you make a video explaining the tuning process and cost of your ST?
Or any video for that matter lol
Bummed the ARM coupon code doesn't work anymore. Grabbing a few things per your recommendations
Thanks Jake...great info...
Anyone know rear end power limit before enough start breaking axles on grippy tires
Great video as always Jake. I know this is an older video now but I only got my DP's put in and I'm running MHD on it. Before i had the Dp's in my O2 sensors were fine and no codes afterwards I have the 2C6A (Post O2's switched) and 2C7E (O2 control). I have re-mapped my car with the MHD O2 sensor choice but no change. Do I need to reset Adaptions or is the only fix new O2 sensors?
Hey Jake had a quick question maybe you can answer.. I have a 535i N54, and wanted to install catted Dp’s. Here in Georgia they have emission test.. Will I gain some power with the catted Dp’s. I know catless ones are better.
I will be going stage 2 MHD. Just numbers will I gain more Hp?
Why did you put music over an exhaust clip?
Hi can give information about the flashing lights at the beginning please
I love the 1 series
Does it smoke a lot with the cat less Down pipss ?
It has started to smoke more, yes.
Is there a way of getting the check engine light to go off. I just don’t want to be driving around with the light on all the time.
Take the 135i to the track and compare lap times to your 335i sedan and m3!
I would love to, but not sure I could do it all at the same time. Maybe one day. Otherwise I'll have to break it up and run them when I'm able to.
Couldn’t find this in the comments but didn’t look completely. I just bought a 2009 e93 and want to do a few basic bolt ons to get a slightly more aggressive sound. Nothing too crazy. Do I need to tune after installing these?
I bought the same exact catless dps from arm and im wondering why each downpipe has 2 inserts for the o2 sensors? Also what o2 sensor spacers should i install so i dont get check engine light
Each downpipe has a pre-cat and a post-cat sensor. This way they can work together to measure efficiency, etc. One pipe measures the first 3 cylinders and the other pipe measures the other 3 cylinders. I didn't install any spacers, so I'm not sure what to tell you there. There are other ways to code out the CEL ;)
EPA wants to know your location
I'll stick with the highflows thanks, less likely to get an EPA fine.
So my service and check engine light came on after I did this to my N54.. I’ve been told the O2 sensor eliminator should do the trick.. What do you think ? Any advice ?
I had to replace my driveshaft so I had to lower the exhaust and didn't have a chance to get new gaskets (nor time to wait for them to get delivered) from the downpipe to the exhaust and now I am having a few codes. Could the exhaust leak trigger downpipe codes?
Jake - did you find that the two forward O2 sensors fouled together? Mine are touching with the ARM pipes.
Howmany HorsePower is just coming + u said? Only with the downpipes so without tuning mapping. 20 BHP? Original
The four replacement bolts and nuts, can you use any or is their a certain type? My kit didn’t come with any and I’m not sure what to use
How did you eliminate the check engine light after you removed the cats? Thanks
Hey bro you haven't posted everything good?
Hey jake, how did you manage to get the light check on start up on the 135i?
It just does that, I'm not sure how or why lol.
Hi, I'm still running on stock electronics (no MHD and no JB4) ... yet do you thing I will get any codes by removing the Cats ?
Hey I just came across your channel and wanted to know what you did to your 135i. Your transmissions sounds are beatiful. Is it rebuild? How do I make mine as loud too?
5:09 😂😂 super unexpected that’s awesome
So what the difference between VRSF and ARM? I need to get downpipes and a 7.5 FMIC and was thinking about going with VRSF. Any reason I should get ARM?
