- With Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, Ninja Theory sticks to the blueprint set by the first game very closely, delivering an audiovisual tour de force with an incredibly affecting story, and largely simplistic and basic gameplay and design.
Mechanically, the game does not compare to any other major peer in the genre - but if you come to these games for the story and for the spectacle, then Ninja Theory and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will deliver something unforgettable that will truly deliver the rare kind of next generation moment that used to be all too common to consoles not too long ago, and is largely lost to diminishing returns by this point.

Linear and scarce is the cure to the over saturation of open worlds packed with filler and as such are almost unable to convey a compelling narrative and characters. Few exceptions like the goats, Witcher 3, RDR2, and BOTW, but Hellblade nails a truly cinematic and engrossing experience like no other game before or since. Been hyped for the sequel since it was announced quite a few years ago

I don't get the obsession with open worlds. The game having a linear gameplay that restricts you to a critical path is a plus for me. I like it when single player games have a strong narration and are tightly staged. An open world game can never achieve the same level of storytelling because it doesn't know where the player goes and what they do. That's the very nature of the open world.

I've just finished the game playing it normally (not rushing and not hunting for achievements) and it's taken me 10 hours, slightly longer than it took me to finish the first game. If you like the first game you'll get a very similar experience.

It possibly could had been 5 hours though as the 8 hour length is partly thanks to the (slow) speed of movement.
The trailer gave me the impression that Senua was going to come back as a force to be reckoned with but seems to just walk around depressed and exhausted the whole time. Il have to watch a playthrough properly

Yea I had to just stop watching the video and come straight to the comments. I'll watch another review instead. Maybe irrational, but it bugged me to no end. You can tell that he is just the paid narrator reading what the actual person who played the game wrote. At some point, there has to be some oversight and someone to say, "You fucked up, do it over."
Tbf, it's a British game, so it *should* be pronounced senUa. Ninja Theory tried to be all American with the pronunciation. One voice actor in the original did pronounce it senUa, however -- though, annoyingly, senooa was the most commonly heard pronunciation.

God, this looks incredible and I'm thrilled it didn't get riddled with laundry lists of pointless work to do for the sake of elevating the visual and auditory storytelling. That was what the first game was about. It's SUCH a damn shame that cost the game studio to get shut down... Like, I don't have time outside of work and life to hunt for collectibles, but I want to get lost in an immersive story. screw the direction the gaming industry is going

I was reading an article the other day. Titled games aren't fun anymore. And I was thinking I have fun playing games. But as I thought about it more and more. I get a bit what they were saying. Watching this review helped me understand. The reviewer seems to like the game. But he didn't seem to enjoy or have fun playing the game. And when it came to the pros of the game. None of them were so called fun. He touted technical things as the best parts of the game. Sometimes I think reviews get lost because they're have an idea of the technical side of games. And try to incorporate that. But in doing so I think they lose sight of one of the most important things about the game. Will I enjoy it. Will I have fun?

You will be disappointed to hear then, NT are still working on Project Mara, and this week, they got the green light to start on a new project.
I feel like after over 4 years of production only to last less than 7 hours in a single playthrough and most of it being cutscenes would kinda disappoint me. It sounds more like a tech demo for what UE5 can do in terms of visually immersive storytelling. At least it’s selling for $50, so maybe that kinda makes up for it. Guess people who buy it should tame their expectations and go in knowing it’s more of an interactive movie than anything else.

To compare those AAA titles to a brand new IP is ridiculous. I own both consoles, and each console gives their audience a unique gaming experience. God of war, final fantasy are both IPs that came out nearly 20 years ago and are still ongoing. Most people will say they’re dragged out sure, but no one is saying it’s not a game.

I literally just finished the game I think it's absolutely brilliant not a game for everyone for sure no but as other people state not every game needs to be 100 hours plus every time a game can be enjoyable and beautiful in other ways hellblade 2 is a perfect example of it

Loved first one, but man this is tough purchase for full price..
Yeah that's the real issue. The game's length (not 5 hours mind you) and content doesn't quite justify the full price. But considering the immaculate presentation and the technology behind it, also adding the fact that inflation is a massive issue at the moment it almost seems clear as to why it's so expensive.
I paid full price because I want to support the devs, I love both games, but I don't expect most people would be willing to fork out the full price money and it's understandable.

Glad hellblade 2 is on xbox game pass I play it on my xbox series x I love hellblade feels like a cinematic movie I play with subtitles off.

@@wrathgor You're absolutely right, they don't. But also, they shouldn't even think of charging full price for a 5 hour game, with 0 replay value, and with the gameplay where the vast majority of it involves slow walking down a path until you meander across an enemy or puzzle.
This game just absolutely screams Game Pass fodder and nothing more.
Just beat hellblade 2 it was great, not as difficult as the first but I loved it!

I actually suffer from audio and visual hallucinations, ex BAF three combat tours, was rough on me mind and body, they nail it tbh and oftentimes while playing unsure if it's mine or Senuas, game is ok, looks absolutely stunning, so did The Order 1886 which also a great game, underrated but very basic unfortunately, i was hoping for a massive combat upgrade, something deep and worth mastering but this is too basic for me considering the time, and budget spent, worth a go but one and done, Ryse Son of Rome had a bit basic combat, that game probably looks gorgeous today, that deserved a sequel with deeper combat too.
The game looks amazing, for anyone interested I'll have videos up on my channel within the hour for the pc version :)

Just play the game, different people will have different experiences with it.
I've enjoyed it a lot just like I did the first one and I've clocked around 10 hours in both games, just simply playing and sometimes slowing down to enjoy the carefully crafted scenery and scenes - it's just simply that beautiful and extremely detailed.
The story and gameplay may not be for everyone and that is fine but it's definitely not 5 hours for most regular players.
Looking on steam the average playtime for people that finished it is in between 7 and 10 hours which is pretty much exactly the same as the first game.
I'm happy this is more of the same, if I want a open world I play gta, or red dead or even ghost of tsushima. I prefer a cinematic story driven game. Open worlds are so saturated right now, just a big open space with nothing to do, it ends becoming a linear story but with much more point A to point B travel and back tracking.

The Entire Game has been beaten on Hardest Difficulty with No Damage.In future I will try to beat the whole game with Speedrun in max Difficulty and with No Damage taken but for now can't tolerate this Game anymore.Over all a Nice Game.

Great games like DMC, and the first part of Hellblade and others...
This channel is actually being very gentle and giving the game a higher score than what it merits, because NO ONE wants to see Ninja Theory getting shut... But if the game is exactly the same with better graphics, it has to be said 🤷🏻♂️ as many people make their purchases based on reviews and if this channel praises only and don't mention the obvious, it may get a horrible user review for expecting more.

Cons: It has no gameplay, is the length of a movie, and is worse than the first one. It’s basically not a video game at all but either a short season of tv or an extended cut movie.

This game in no way deserves anything higher than am 8. While looking better than the first the gameplay has taken a huge hit.
You can finish it in one sitting on gamepass, cancel gamepass after finishing it and get a (partly) refund. So no need to pay €49,99 for a game of which the digital only first part was €29,99 7 years ago in the Playstation store (remember it was a Playstation exclusive back then?).
