if you can find some bees, you can make primitive "fly traps" by adhering honey to a banana leaf. the flies will come and get stuck, and you can easily feed the chickens. also you should grab the beetles too, not just the larvae! chickens will eat anything! fruit, bugs, worms, fish, other birds!
