    My reaction to the barbed wire is “oh that poor giraffe! How painful!” I feel better about it now that I’ve heard your reasoning but barbed wire has always been a negative association for me 🤷🏼‍♀️ great job on the yard! That is a lot of hard, hard work!

    Getting wrapped up in barbed wire always ends up being painful, but this piece gives me the impression of something painful being used as armor. Like, "Yeah, it might sting, but it won't hurt me as much as others would." With the flowers, it gives a sense of healing, too.

    Your yard is going to look lovely once your new plants have become established. I can empathise with the clay soil and rocks, I have the same even though I live in the UK. Your giraffe is amazing! I’m not a fan of the barb wire but it’s your piece so your choice and I respect that.

    Good to see you back again Lisa!! The giraffe drawing is glorious! Thought the barb wire was fine, added contrasting visual texture to the sleek giraffe fur and delicate butterfly wings. Yard work always clears the mind in a good way. Been doing a bit of my own this week too. Gibson and Wade enjoying themselves in the snow is a treat.

  • @aartadventure
    @aartadventure Před 3 lety

    I found the barbed wire symbolic of human dominance and interference over nature. Invasive and restrictive, but with some animals and plants struggling to coexist and survive despite it. Even though giraffes aren't really vocal animals, the fact that the barbed wire also wrapped around the giraffe's jaw made me wonder if you are commenting on the silence created as species become endangered or extinct.
    Also, thanks for sharing your garden. It's looking really pretty! I'm glad your plants mostly survived the snow storm!

    Since you asked, being a country “girl”, I am all too aware of the negativity behind barbed wire and I do have a tiny bit of a scar on my knee (that you have to really look for now) because of accidentally running into a fence at dusk when I was little. That being said, I didn’t honestly have a reaction one way or the other. I didn’t even truly realize it was barbed wire until you said it was...but that could be because I wasn’t fully awake while watching this one.

    That gardening is hard work, especially in Texas! I am from Athens/Sulphur Springs, Tx and remember what that ground is like to plant in. Happy to have signed up for your Patreon, great video tips! I have a question. I have just ordered the polychromos and want to order one more set of professional quality colored pencils. Would you suggest the Derwent Lightfast set of the Luminance? I will order the largest set in a tin, not the wooden box, if it makes a difference. Also, Hot Press watercolor paper from Artistico or Arches for use with the OMS? Your advice is appreciated! @lachrifineart

    This is absolutely gorgeous, I think the barbed wire is a nice touch but as someone who has gotten hung up in barbed wire after running into it because I didn't see it in the woods and seeing our cows and horses get snagged in it, yeah I can see how it could convey pain and danger because I've seen it get wrapped around a horse's head much like this giraffe and the horse got scared and made it worse... It was not pretty, it lost an eye...The whole time I was watching I was like "omg that poor giraffe, that's not going to end well if he moves his neck but he's so pretty!" I've never associated barbed wire with safety and security, more like it sends a chill down my spine when I see it because it's a lot sharper than people think (especially when it's brand new) but I do like it in this painting, it looks like it's old and weathered and probably won't hurt him... If he doesn't move around too much...

  • @_JoyceArt
    @_JoyceArt Před 3 lety +4

    Right before you asked the question about the barbed wire, I thought to myself: it’s a gorgeous painting, wonder what her idea behind the barbed wire is. Does it symbolize our human actions that have an impact on the animal kingdom? I don’t get a protective vibe from barbed wire, but I get what you mean.
    As for reactions to my artworks, not really surprising responses, but people often like other pieces more than I do.

  • @tessa2889
    @tessa2889 Před 3 lety

    So I love the picture but I did have a negative emotional response to the barb wire. I was surprised by my response. Never had a response like that until now. my thoughts, which were imagining a giraffe being in the wild and getting itself tangled up in mans crap. Without that thought, I enjoyed the picture very much. If I were to draw it I would make the wire a vine from the Lilly like flowers. But that being said, it’s not a big deal. No worries.

    I don't throw symbolic meanings at the barbed wire in that. However when you have had to cut animals free of it and treat the cuts, it doesn't leave a complete safety or harm feeling. When they stay in the field, it's safe, and into or threw the wire, it isn't. It's just a part of farm life to me.

    I've had a person fully argue the meaning of a picture "I" painted! She was so sure her interpretation was correct that She told me I was wrong when I told her its symbology and why it ment what it did to me ... then further stated, the person symbolised within the pic as a tree should have been done through a different kind of tree 🙄😂

    The wire: danger! Hurts! Do not come close! Guess it is what ive been told by my parents, as they would protect me from getting hurt by it.
    Once i painted a landscape. Showed it to my mother in law. She said one of the clouds was shaped as a penis. Did not see that myself, but yeah... she was right haha!

    Todo el mundo habla de disolver el lápiz de color con trementina o white spirit o similar y es un ¡ERROR! La trementina disuelve la cera o el aceite y al quedar el pigmento suelto, sin tanto aglutinante por eso se esparce en el papel (es como si cortara el aceite o cera que pues ambos son grasosas, de la misma forma que el detergente corta el aceite, un ejemplo un poco exagerado) y si aplicas mucha trementina pues dejas el pigmento sin aglutinante, es decir, dejas el pigmento suelto y a cabo de unos años se levantará el color aunque estés usando colores resistentes a la luz, se puede ver bien a simple vista apenas termines el dibujo pero se daña la calidad de la pintura si piensas vender tus cuadros.
    Y veo en los videos de CZcams y aplican exageradamente arto, noooo eso no es así, sí aplicas trementina o sus similares que sea sólo en la primera capa y súper escurrido el pincel, apenas humedecido, y máximo una segunda vez y súper poquito. Mejor usar colores acuarelables de buena calidad mezclados con los colores permanentes y pintar no de oscuro a claro sino de claro a oscuro, con eso no hay necesidad de usar tanta trementina. Eso fue una moda que salió hace como unos 8 años en CZcams y ahora todo el mundo la repite pero si vas a hacer un dibujo para guardarlo en un cajon o escanearlo está bien, pero si vas a vender tus cuadros, está mal y el pigmentado no va a tener la fuerza de AGLUTINANTE (el de la cera o aceite que le quitaste con la trementina) para durar el paso de los años, así estés usando la mejor marca de lápices de colores.

    Barb wired is very harmful to animals. Had horses and refused to have any on my property so it wouldn't hurt my horses. But I didn't think anything of it on your art.
