- Join me for an epic 60km adventure where I walked from the very northeastern tip of Montréal island at Parc du Bout-de-l'Île, to the southwestern point at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue. This preposterous promenade took me nearly 14.5 hours to complete, but it was a wonderful way to see parts of the city I’d never otherwise see.

First off, props for surviving the walk!! Not even just for the distance, but for choosing to walk the the highways... If I were to ever attempt such a feat, I'd take the scenic route through the denser parts of town, watching this felt like exploring a concrete wasteland
Thanks! And yeah I know... it would have been more pleasant along one of the shores instead of right down the middle by the 40. Next time I do something like this I'll try to plan for less concrete & tarmac.

@@che8866 Except Montreal does have a lot of beautiful green places and trails to walk through, and you can walk alongside rivers and canals across the whole island. But it will mean walking along the edge of the island and hence adds quite a bit of time to the walk,

I have lived in Montreal all my life, and lived in Ste-Anne for a few years, while at Mac. You definitely showed places in the east end I've never seen or even knew about. However, I think your trip would have been much more pleasant had you walked along Gouin (north shore) or the Lakeshore (through Beaconsfield), as this is where a lot of the early colonization took place, and there's some historic windmills and other structures along the way. Another place you might also like to walk is along the shore from Pont-Viau, (see Parc île de la Visitation) all the way north to the eastern tip. The Visitation Island is also a historic place with an old water mill of some sorts, I believe.

Yeah it really highlights why a city made for drivers sucks the life out of everything when you take the time to look at it! Could hear the highway noise even in the nature reserve.. no escape

Me and a friend did the same 2 years ago. Took us around 14 hours, but we followed the saint lawrence river and canal lachine the whole way.
We also did something similar in NYC last year.
South side along lakeshore is the only way to do it. You can get killed walking along the highway like that!

FYI, in the west, there is a bike/walking path about 1km north of highway 40 that goes from about des Sources all the way through to St-Anne de Bellevue. Or Blvd Gouin which is the longest street in Montreal (57 Km) that goes all the way to St Anne’s. Kudos roughing it on the 40 service road (but really not safe…).
He was actually on the bike path you're referring to. It starts off right as he exited Bois de Liesse. You see him walking on it up until Spring Garden I guess.
Il y a une façon d'éviter une partie peu agréable de Gouin dans Saraguay et DDO : prenez la rue Albert-Prévost à gauche puis Jean-Bourdon à droite. Vous verrez une entrée pour marcheurs dans le bois qui vous entoure. Suivez le sentier vers l'ouest. Vous aboutirez sur la rue Maple (devenant la rue Hervé). Vous longerez ensuite la voie ferrée et vous poursuivrez dans le parc Bois-de-Liesse un peu plus loin. Cela vous emmène, de manière complètement isolée dans le bois (très agréable!) jusqu'au boulevard Sunnybrooke. Ainsi, vous n'aurez pas à traverser l'étang et passer sous la 13 sur Gouin. Cette partie n'est effectivement pas très agréable.

Congrats on doing it. This brought so many memories for me. I grew up east of town, now live in st Laurent and work in the West Island. Needless to say it was nice to see so many areas that have been important in my life in a single video. Thank you
Recognized several sections that I've walked on breaks from work. Kudos on doing the whole thing in one shot like that. That's a heck of a commitment.
Im glad you passed by the Route Verte cycling road 6:14. It is the longest continual cycling road in America. I love it and I use it daily for my commutes and fun. The view along the road is awesome and on windy days you get a fresh breeze from the river.
Wow, that's quite the achievement, especially at that time of the year! A month later, it might have been easier.
I'm glad you enjoyed the Bois-de-Liesse and were able to show it. It's one of my favourite parks on the island.

My kind of adventure! Did a cross south to north in Laval in spring 13 km coming back from an appointment downtown. Lots of fun and it is so true you see and find sights you would never come across in other ways! Keep it up mate!

Nice walk, well done ... what a shame you elected to walk alongside the 40 from Galleries des Sources to RioCan in Kirkand. There's a pretty good walking/cycle path that runs east-west along the hydro quebec servitude from Bois Francs all the way into SADB village, I believe the last 18K of your walk would have been a lot more pleasant had you taken this route :). Thanks for sharing your video.

I've started to walk a lot more again after a nasty incident that left me unable to walk for 3 months, and I love exploring Montreal too! Very fun video to watch, thank you for sharing and inspiring :) It's been a goal of mine to explore parts of the city I've never seen and after watching this I want to make sure I do so this weekend.

After Bois de Liesse, you should have continued on the bike path instead of going all the way to the service road. It runs pretty parallel to the service road.

I did the same walk a few years ago, except I just followed Gouin and Senneville streets the entire way.
Thank you! Gouin and Senneville would have been a lot more scenic, a few extra km though.

I was curious so I went back to check, and you walked about 1km more and took around 10,000 more steps. You went out of the way to go look at cool things (I literally just followed Gouin and Senneville without diverting), you started at the actual east end of the island (I only started at Sherbrooke/Gouin), and a couple of detours+construction sites probably added some mileage for you.
I remember practically limping and barely being able to walk by the time I got to Senneville (the last 5-10 kilometers were ROUGH). Major kudos to you 😀

Visited Montreal once and it definitely had more character than Vancouver!

Congrats on your accomplishment. I know how difficult it can be. I did the 100,000 step in 24 hours challenge last year, which I don't recommend. It ended up being around 77 km (48 miles) and took 18-19 hours to complete. It was brutal but I survived. Cheers and keep walking!

Inspiring video - thank you! I agree with the idea of walking the shorelines - gorgeous quiet parks along the water all the way from Old Montreal all the way to St. Anne de Bellevue. Lots of places to grab a lunch, coffee or ice cream. Maybe a summer challenge:)?

Almost all of this has some sort of biking or walking lane. The scenery is gorgeous, great places to stop and eat and tons of history and nature.
This is great! I appreciate this type of adventure. So many people travel far and wide, but don't really get to know their own "backyard."
Really enjoyed the part near the La velocite des lieux sculpture, that's montreal-nord, where I lived for the most part of my life. I was great seeing the place I remember. Grats on wlaking all that way, that was very fun to watch.
You made me discover spots in my city that I had no idea existed. I am definitely going to take my camera and wander around this summer
Also, it's really funny to see you walk in my neighborhood. I'm always curious to see what the others think about it.

It’s the first time I hear of someone who enjoys walking as much as I do! The longest walk I’ve done was from McGill station to a little north of the 40 and Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Pointe-aux-Trembles. Kudos to you 🥳🍾✨ I can’t help but wonder though, how was the recovery?
I love traversing through a city like this, imho it's the best way to really get a feel for it.
I think going out / in / out again is also interesting for the architectural changes and the economic changes as you pass through different income areas.

Nice journey! I’ve run from my house in Pincourt to the clock tower in Old MTL along the Lakeshore and Lachine Canal…it was a fun, tough and rewarding day!
Another Montrealer seeing parts of his city for the first time - but - when you got to Galerie des Sources and started along the highway, there is a parallel road that you had been on earlier - Gouin - that continues along the river and is much quieter :)

i once got out of the theater in downtown Montreal after watching The Matrix 2 and i walked all night long (35 KM walk) starting at 1h30 A.M. and got to my suburb town of Repentigny at around 8h00 A.M. ... was working graveyard shift back then so it was a nice walk instead of working 8 hours .
I honestly want to give my congrats especially for the stretch around Pointe Ste Claire. You didn’t even start to complain that I knew it would be the most terrible part, even if not the longest and even if the start wasn’t even remotely scenic either lol

Great video, really loved. It was great to see the easternmost part of the island, which is quite unknown to most residents of Montreal. The parc du bout de l'île where you started your walk is a favorite spot of mine. I usually ride there on my bike on summer mornings. It's about 30 km from my house in Saint-Laurent and another 30 km back, so a nice workout. The whole area called the Parc Nature de la pointe-aux-prairies is lovely. And yes, you can see deers out there. Around the 6:15 mark in the video, you're walking in Ahuntsic, more precisely the Parc Maurice-Richard, named for Rocket Richard, who lived just right by it until he died. This is also a favorite spot of mine on the island. I went a few times to Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue on my bike, but I hardly ever go now because the bike path on Gouin west is quite dangerous and very, very badly designed. It's only good after Cap Saint-Jacques, but before that, it's a real pain in the neck, especially in Pierrefonds, in my opinion.

4:39 this is Route 125 or Boul Pie XI with a bus ferris wheel art installation. The other end of r125 starts in Hochelaga and goes south of the olympic stadium and le jardin boutanique. The R125 BRT is also there.
