My best friend was grasshopper in a jr. version of this. He’s so adorably tone-deaf I had to help him with the choreography and the notes. I learned this song by heart 10000 times over. I love it so much because it manages to calm me down and cheer me up simultaneously, which is something I need more than I care to admit

I am seriously considering traveling to New York just to see Christian Borle open as Willy Wonka in the Broadway production of Charlie and the Chocolate factory. This is wonderful and I am ecstatic to see what he does as Wonka. He is just incredible

My school did this a month ago and I was running the music for this song. Synchronising this song with when the grasshopper started playing the violin was hard, but it was all worth it.
I remember when my middle school did this musical, I was the Grasshopper but I dropped the violin bow as the violin tune started playing. Totally mortifying but it worked out in the end
Don't get me wrong, I do like the Centipede's character in the musical... but in the book and movie he was a loud, funny, disaster-causing character who James was maybe the closest to out of everyone. So why did they change him to being a grumpy person who dislikes James for the musical? Especially as every other character was really just the same as they were in the book and the movie?
I think when trying to make the bacl stories of the characters they choose to make him more bitter. Spiker and Sponge Killed his whole family, and the insects aren't the most warm to him, so He kinda just bottles up his feelings and doesn't really like james because james is human and humans have hurt him in the past so instead of connecting centipede pushes james and the others away. I also thinknthe writers did it just to give more depth the insect, you have ladybug spider and grasshopper who are the more positive ones, earthworm who is scared of him own shadow, then there is centipede, who is very sarcastic and closed off.
Taylor-Rae I guess so. I also thought maybe they needed someone else to be antagonistic towards James on the peach, because Spiker and Sponge aren't around all the time to do it.
