    When I'm craving Pho but am lazy I use the chicken broth (Walmart brand stock) for my Pho with the Pho drop in spice bags. I put in ginger and onion too along with some lime but you definitely need the Pho bouillon cubes or the Pho spice bags!! I get a whole rotisserie chicken from the deli too ..Comes out perfect!!

    Was happy to have this as a part of my rotation when I was a poor graduate student living on my own with not much time to cook real pho. Boiled some daikon in it to add some sweetness and have some more vegetables in my diet, and added some fish sauce (as you suggest). Overall, it does the job, especially on a budget!

    I think I'd like to try this. I usually spice up Campbell's regular broth so I could probably add some extra stuff to make it more flavorful.

  • @susie.valmor
    @susie.valmor Před 5 lety

    Do not dilute just means dont add water...but you can still add other ingredients for flavoring. When ever I buy anything already pre-done like sauces I always add other herbs, spices to adjust it to my liking. Maybe Campbell's is just to cut down the time for making the broth.

    i use it when i want to make soup quickly, but add fish sauce, fresh grated ginger and garlic, chopped shallots, hoisin and sriracha. like you say, Quang, it's a good base to start with, and that's about it.

    I dont think you know what the "ready to use, do not dilute" means. Diluting means you lessen the concentration by using a liquid, like water. It doesn't mean not to add anything else into the broth, just dont water it down.

    typically Campbell's is condensed, so instructions tell you to dilute with cups of water or milk. the "ready to use" is to indicate that you do not need to to that.

  • @fuzzyscarfandmittens4772

    I just saw the amount of sodium in that stuff and immediately put it back on the shelf. You can make a quick and dirty version of pho with unsalted beef broth and add half a charred onion, charred ginger, some star anise, cinnamon stuck, coriander seed and cardomom and let that simmer for about 20-30 minutes.
    It's not the same as making the broth from scratch but it's good enough for those cold days when you don't want to really cook.

    @ijakinov Před 6 lety

    "Do not dilute" just means don't add WATER to water-down the flavors anymore; it doesn't mean don't add anything else. Few things to keep in mind is that, they don't use anything beef because they want it to be vegetarian friendly so it's basically a Vegetable Pho broth. They also aren't going to add fish sauce so they can mellow it out for Americans (and Canadians). because they don't generally like stronger flavors because they aren't used to it. If you go to some Chinese restaurants in Canada they will give you two options "Chinese-Style" or "Canadian-Style" and sometimes you can secretly ask for "Chinese-Style". Vietnamese places don't do that very often but idea is the same. Do something inspired but mellow it out for mass North-American consumption.

    It helps a lot on how to cook the pho, he make it look so essay. What I didn't like and have nothing to do with the cooking is the noise he made while eating, I shouldn't mentioned.

    Hi! 😊
    The Translation I think you’re looking for is “Bland” ...”no flavor”...”lacking of something....depth”...like the word “lack” someone pointed out earlier in the comment. Thanks for what you do. I love your channel. I always look forward to what you have for us next. And your mom is adorable. I live about 700 miles away from my mom and she reminds me of her.

    Yeah lac (don’t know how to spell it) is plain. It’s like whenever someone cooks something and forgot to add any salt & seasoning to it.

    Dextrose is just another name for sugar. It’s in almost all foods as a sweetener. (But usually you’ll see it as glucose, corn syrup etc)
    That stock is practically just watered down beef stock lol

    So in your opinion would more star anise, cloves and fish sauce add more flavor to it??

    i love pho but have to watch my budget... just made this version for the first time which included french onion canned soup (walmart brand .50) bought shaved steak for $6 (five servings per pack), drop in star anise, ginger, jalapeno, regular noodles on hand, then add steak at end then top w/ some fresh cilantro, green onions, siracha and lime juice... had no fish sauce but it still turned out great for cheap QUICK pho... very full from one can...

    you should try using the broth on top of a paste and fried aromatics. maybe not with a pho recipe
