This is one game I'd like to see a remake of.
That or just bring back the ability combination mechanic.

Guess what they are bringing back in 2018? I'm hyped. Ability combos with the wide selection of abilities in modern kirbies instead of the limited selection from previous ones, and up to four helpers. I cannot wait.
The cancelled gamecube version would've been this + CPUs, but after seeing the new kirby game for the switch, it might as well be.
The new version of ability combinations is very unimpressive. It's just pasting particle effects on existing abilities for the most part. In the original, every single combination was its own thing.
Kirby 64 may have the slowest movement of the Kirby games, but with the great ability combining mechanic (along with it being my first Kirby game) it has to be one of my favorites
the worst part of this whole speedrun is intentionally messing up the bonus games and having kirby kry after every level

I'm amazed on how this game made you have to use different abilities, instead of being just able to 100% it by using the same ability, that's just good game design right there

This one and Nightmare in Dreamland are my favourite Kirby games but I had no idea you can use the actual powers against Miracle Matter. I always thought you would have to just inhale the parts and spit them back at him. My assumed method did drag out the fight by a lot

I remember on the wii shop when we got this game. And when we got to 02 it took forever to beat! Now it's easy to beat.

This was our last Chrystal... And we got him with the Sparrow.... It was nearly impossible for us....

When i got kirby 64 i was blown away by the graphics, they were way ahead of other games.
I have so many memories of this game, but I have never once beat it. I could never figure out how to get half the shards! Well now I know, and I may have to replay it!

Technically Kirby Squeak squad had combinations.
Miracle Matter's Spark form isn't random and there's good angles to one-round it reliably...but killing it with a double saber is way more fun (and sane).
I like how the guy actually helped out by saying when good times to announce donations were.
How long the three "lasers" take to turn into something Kirby can swallow is random.
I never noticed that, but I did notice if I "got the angle wrong" the damage control would get out of hand. Being half my current age at the time, I wasn't very consistent or good at remembering where to be, either.
What is the song playing in the beginning of the video pre-run. I know it's darude Sandstorm but its something else. I recognize it but cant place what dong or what game its from. Clarification around 3:00

They're animals that you can save at the end of Super Metroid. As a speed-runner this wastes 20-25 seconds.
So killing them off, yeah... saves time.

+Veranio It's something that a lot of old runners of this game used to say. If you watch in the beginning SwordsmanKirby explains that the old strat was using the double fire powerup, and the strat he uses is with only single fire.

It has a really big animation and wide damage radius. It just feels epic to use it. Stuff like that is what makes this game feel rewarding to play.

At least Planet Robobot has a couple of references to Kirby 64.

+jonas costa All videos are fixed up after the event. Reasons include:
1) Fixing technical issues if possible, such as the echoing audio on the uploads for several runs early in the event.
2) Normalizing the audio track. Most runs will end up being louder.
3) Removing the takeover ads played during setup times.
4) Adding title cards, including run, category, runners, and an approximate time when the run starts.
5) Putting interviews with the run they belong with, as sometimes there was a schedule gap (the Super Mario Kart interview was done before Diddy Kong Racing, for example).
