  • Norwegian fire brigade responding on a call about a car accident in a tunnel during rush hour traffic in Oslo. Those who called in described it as a serious accident, but when the fire brigade and police arrive on scene they only find a car who has crashed in to the wall and can drive out without any help.

      @@belaschaub5361 I think the reason the bus is there is to block all the cars ignoring the red cross. By blocking them and then move as the fire truck arrived the closed lane stayed clear. It is a big problem in both Oslo and Stockholm that people use the closed lane as their personal lane and then end up blocking emergency vehicles.

      Jonas Bobjörk maybe you are right, but I don’t think the move played out to well. He still blocked the firetruck. Also all the cars in front of the bus could change lanes at anytime. So im still guessing that the bus driver just didn’t want to wait in line

    As a German, this honestly makes me mad. Everyone is praising how well everyone is yielding, when what they do is absolute chaos and the fire fighters have to drive in a zigzag around cars all the time and constantly have to switch lanes because the emergency lane formed is not always in the same place. There's a simple rule to mitigate this: If you're in the leftmost lane, move to the left, in all other lanes, move to the right. That way an emergency lane forms in the same place everywhere, and it's much easier to drive through. All countries in the world, adopt the Rettungsgasse!

      @Ganiscol Před 2 lety

      It is, but in recent years I've seen more and more reports of reckless drivers using these corridors to keep moving in front or behind emergency services - how dumb is that when there is likely to be a complete standstill ahead due to an accident? And if enough do it and clog the corridor, emergency services cant get to the accident and will actually have to get there on foot! Luckily, the police is cracking down hard on these turds - they cant get away from there at that point... I believe losing the drivers license on the spot for a year or so would be appropriate.

    I got a motorcycle recently, and since then I have been able to drive the autobahn. Last time I drove on there, I was extremely surprised when I found heavy traffic, because people automatically push themselves to the edges of the road, so right cars drive with a wheel over the right line, left cars over the left line, so that a third way opens in the middle, IN CASE some emergency vehicle comes. It blew my mind.

      The mirrors will also include ones for checking the dead zones on the sides and maybe those in front (I think it's a Scania truck and they can be outfitted with dead-zone mirrors above the windshield below the greenish-sunshield kind of thing so they can see what's directly in front of them below the windshield) ;).

      The driving-training is probably close to the same as in The Netherlands, and it's very thorough with regular re-training. And it's also about experience. I had my certificate for driving a forklift earlier than my regular license. At some point you know exactly how wide the forklift is and you don't hesitate anymore when you just have 5 centimeter (that's about 2 inch) to spare on both sides of the vehicle.
      This driver just knows the size of his vehicle very well. And if you looked carefully, you can clearly see he IS checking his mirrors.

      This is absolute chaos and a waste of valuable time for the fire fighters. Look at a video of German "Rettungsgasse", that's what all of the world should be doing. Every driver knows exactly what to do in an emergency - all lanes move to the right, except for the left most one. Thats done in no time at all, and a beautiful, consistent emergency lane is formed. I really don't know why not more countries are using this principle. In Germany, most of the radio stations (to which one mostly listens in the car) have a short mention of the Rettungsgasse rules in their regular programme after every block of traffic information, so everyone is aware of them at any time. Also, there sometimes are posters reminding you of the rules hung on bridges, but that's mostly a thing in Austria, I believe.
