They didn't call him "the voice" for nothing. Steve and Freddie Mercury have always been considered at the top. But then, in 2017, the world became aware of Dimash, whom I consider the "singer of the millennia", because no-one has the range and diversity he does.

@@hagar6359 I somewhat agree with that, but there can only one "best", and that would be Dimash. No-one alive today, and I've found no-one in the past, that has the God-given talent, and range, and in so many genres of music. His name translated to English is "gift from God" or "God given".
Dimash sings in 14 languages, plays 7+ musical instruments, is a composer, an amazing vocalist, patriot, philanthropist and, despite his popularity and talent, is a very warm and humble person.

This is from their "Frontiers" album, which includes "Faithfully" (HIGHLY recommend if you haven't heard it... the ultimate love song, but with Journey's unique touch), and "Separate Ways" (also HIGHLY recommend, but make sure you react to the FULL 5:34 version and NOT a chopped-version. And believe it or not, the Official Video is a chopped-version). This stadium for this performance (Send Her My Love) is in Philadelphia.
Another Journey tune I HIGHLY recommend is "Mother Father" (Live in Houston - 1981)... quite possibly Steve Perry's best vocal performance (especially the notes he hits at the end... and it's LIVE!)

Maddy, as usual you’re helping me see things with fresh eyes and innocence. This is the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, July 2, 1982 I was there, and there were people in the parking lot. There 83,000 people in the stadium, and Journey was headlining a concert with Blue Oyster Cult, Triumph and Aldo Nova. Journey was so fantastic that it was hard not to get emotional, every woman in the crowd was crying or screaming with joy! It was phenomenal! The haze you’re seeing happens every night during the summer in LA, it comes off the ocean which is about 25 miles from Pasadena. The haze fills the LA basin, creates a layer that when seen from above looks like heaven. That’s why the natives called it, city of the angels

I’ve listen to Journey since I was in Middle School and I’m 58. This song was written by Steve Perry (vocalist) and the Keyboardist in 83 on one of their later albums. This song was huge at the time. Steve Perry is known to all the professional singers as the Voice. This is why he sang on the We are the World song for Micheal Jackson. This place was at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia and the stadium is torn down shortly after that concert I’m 1989. Journey was always sold out. They were huge band for years in the rock agenda. I don’t think history will ever see bands and songs like Journey, Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Bob Seger ever again. Only what History recorded will it be saved.

I was lucky enough to be at the "Day of Rock-N-Roll" in New Orleans (1983 I believe). Zebra, Foghat, Brian Adams, and finally Journey. Got there at 9:00 in the morning until late that night. The entire stadium was packed - the stands and field. We were standing center stage. When Journey performed, they extended the stage close enough we could have grabbed the guitar from Neal. One of the best concerts ever.
Journey was my favorite band, so they have too many favorites to pick just one. But I'd say if you want to be blown away by pure vocal talent, you need to react to "Mother, Father" live in Houston 1981. Steve's vocals in that song are unmatched. It also has some instrumental solos that will blow you away too - guitar and piano (at the end). And the lyrics have real meaning to Steve so the emotion he sings with is real.

This isn't live. It's live video footage from the Frontiers & Beyond documentary with the studio cut audio. Still, Perry was superb live. (FYI, they played the songs much faster on this and the RoR tour, which is why you see the video footage move a little slower here. It's also why they couldn't use live audio for the single video release. Also, Perry NEVER sang a song live exactly the same as the album.)

Thanks for doing this song. Its my favorite song by my favorite band. Soooo many memories, especially with this song. Its like they had me in mind when writing this song..... the love of my life lost because of (in my case) immaturity. This song follows my experience and how I feel to a T! Funny thing is, the girl in the crowd at 1:10.... always reminds me of her too (resembles her). To Anne; you will always hold a GOOD piece of my heart..... forever sending you my love.
In case you are interested (and have not reacted to them already), there are some REALLY great songs out there that aren't hardly scratched yet. Music (GOOD music) has had a special place in my heart since childhood..... I have MANY MANY songs I could show you that people would love. For example:
    TOTO: "I'll Be Over You"
Michael McDonald: "Take It To Heart"
Bad Company: "If You Needed Somebody"
GTR: "When The Heart Rules The Mind"
Paul Carrack: "Don't Shed A Tear"
Jackson Browne: "In The Shape Of A Heart"
Restless Heart: "I'll Still Be Loving You"
Boy Meets Girl: "Waiting For A Star To Fall" (watch the original video but there's AN EXCELLENT 80'S MONTAGE VIDEO TO THIS SONG & IS ONE OF THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN.... you want to get a taste of what the 80's was like WATCH THAT VERSION OF THE SONG) The video is called: "Waiting For A Star To Fall: A Tribute to 80's Entertainment"..... oh and, the woman singing in the original video, also reminds me of Anne!:)
Obviously in my case, the song "I See You In Everyone" by Survivor (FYI another great song by a great band), fits to describe this whole comments subject matter.... someone that was blessed enough to find their soul mate, who actually feels that level of connection to them and receives that level back, then through immaturity/selfishness loses them. Trust me, ANYONE that has found their soul mate and then screws it up, KNOWS where I am coming from! Its a level of TRUE LOVE that is simply a level too powerful to forget!
Unfortunately, once you've had a connection like that with someone.... well, lets just say its not only a mistake that stays with you (no matter how bad you want to shake it), its also an almost impossible thing not to measure current/future relationships against that NO woman should be expected to live up to! Its kind of like going from a big wheel to a Harley, losing the Harley and knowing the closest you are ever going to get to one again is a motorized bicycle (though multiplied by a trillion)!
I just caught what I said (SMH)! I SWEAR I'm not comparing all other women out there to big wheels, its just a way to explain my point that popped in my head so I went with it!:) If it were really in comparison to big wheels and Harley's, there are BILLIONS of Harley's out there and not only am I not a big wheel in comparison.... I'm a tricycle! I'm just trying to say its a mistake that follows you the rest of your life because you want that connection again so bad that you (admittedly unfairly) measure all others by the same yard stick and so you place yourself in a "perpetual mistake" in all other potentially wonderful relationships that never even stood a chance by those standards.
Only those that have found and lost their SOUL MATE level of love truly understands the seemingly curse of it! To everyone else this sounds like, DAMN DUDE.... GET OVER IT ALREADY, and understandably so. I just wish it was as easy as all that.:) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if any of you have found your soul mate.... DON'T SCREW IT UP!:) Anyway, sorry for the craziness. I just want to say again, thanks for reacting to this song!:)
BTW.... YOU ARE DEFINITELY A HARLEY!:)

This video is the result of splicing footage showing two completely different stadiums. The main part of the video showing the bands performance along with the interior shots of the crowd was recorded in JFK stadium in Philadelphia on June 4, 1983 during Journey's Frontiers tour. The aerial shot at the end of the video however is actually of the Cottonbowl stadium in Dallas TX. Why did the producers choose to engage in this visual trickery? Perhaps they wanted a dramatic overhead shot of the stadium for the closing scene and had no such aerial footage from the JFK performance, and so they simply thought nobody would notice the difference. After all, a football stadium is a football stadium, right?

I was at this tour 1983--3rd row, Boise State Pavilion. I was like 5 feet away from Steve Perry! Just an amazing concert. This song was the 4th single off the Frontiers album. It came out later than "Don't Stop Believing".

I went to this tour in Orlando's(then) Tangerine Bowl Stadium. It rained and nobody left. I still have the soggy ticket stub, back when they made custom tickets for each show(before Ticket Master), complete with glitter on it.

This song was written by keyboardist Jonathan Cain. Who said he ran into a friend who (was dating an ex-girlfriend or who was friends with her). Anyway, when Jon was ending his talk with his friend, he (Jonathan) left by saying......'send her my love'!!
Jon said that he thought that would be a great song!!
Send Her My Love is from the 1983 album 'Frontiers', which was a HUGE tour for the band. They say in the beginning of the video is from Philadelphia and the ending is from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Tx! However, I will tell you, that Journey did not play at the Cotton Bowl for the Frontiers tour!!
My best friend and I saw Journey for this tour in Houston, Tx. They had 3 sold out shows, which we were at 2 of them!
I also saw Journey in 1986 for their 'Raised On Radio' tour and then for Steve Perry's first solo tour in 1994!!
I think you'll really enjoyed 'Girl Can't Help It, I'll Be Alright Without You, Mother Father (live in Houston, Tx), Still They Ride (studio version), Ask The Lonely, Why Can't This Night Go On Forever, When You Love A Woman, Feelin' That Way'!!

Have you heard the song Mother Father? It’s incredible. Listen to live version I can’t remember if it was Houston or not. 1981 I think. Incredible! About Divorce, Steve during an interview expressed how much of an impact it made on him as a child and still as an adult. Also the song Lights (about San Fran) is amazing. Also the song Faithfully!

so the pull away shot is definitely the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. If you type in The Cotton Bowl Dallas, TX on Google and go to images there are lots of images of the Cotton Bowl before (this is key) it was eventually renovated to accommodate an even larger seating capacity. One in particular is a great aerial shot in black and white from the Texas State Historical Association where you can clearly see the main bottom bowl/tier and the 2 upper tiers that do not completely encircle the stadium just like in this video, they're just upper decks/tiers that face across from one another but have endings to them. The skyline you're seeing as the camera pulls further and further away is the Dallas/Ft. Worth TX area.

Try to do Mother, Father from their ‘81 Escape Tour Live in Houston; this, in my opinion, showcases Steve Perry’s incredible vocal range and he delivers it with great emotion. This was similar to how he grew up from my reading about him.

Just an FYI, this is the studio track overlayed onto a live performance. Really nicely edited though, so it's hard to tell unless you've heard the studio version before. But yea, the lives are not far off. Sometimes even better. The vocals and that signature solo on "Who's Crying Now", for example, (from their '81 Houston performance) are phenomenal! The solo is like a minute longer. Feels like Neal is singing his heart out with that guitar. And Steve's always top-tier live. Highly recommend, if you haven't caught it yet. Hands down, one of my favorite live performances of all time from any band or artist. It's the only live performance from them I prefer over the studio, which is saying a lot for me. Studio versions are meant to be the ideal version of the song, so if you can top it live, you're kinda somethin' else.
