  • In the third episode of the Life Rebalanced Chronicles - Spirit Rebalanced - we look inward, as we explore the spiritual practices that lift us out of the darkness when we are struggling with a devastating illness. Living with a vestibular disorder challenges you in many ways. How do we summon the inner strength to face these challenges? Often, people struggling with chronic illness go through a grief process similar to that described by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross - denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance. Many find that having a spiritual practice helps them deal with this grief and contributes to their overall well-being. Gratitude, forgiveness (of oneself and others), prayer and meditation are just a few examples of practices that support our inner wellness. Other examples include humor, self-compassion, solitude, journaling, art/creative endeavors, service to others, and spending time in nature.

Life Rebalanced Chronicles documents the stories of nine vestibular warriors. None of them expected to be knocked down by a vestibular disorder. All of them looked fear, anxiety, and loneliness in the face and said, “You will not define me.” Their message is one of hope for everyone who struggles with invisible chronic illness and others who are navigating life’s challenges. The new six-episode docuseries will air weekly starting August 10, in conjunction with Balance Awareness Week (Sept. 19-25, 2021). The series is a collaboration between the Vestibular Disorder Association (VeDA) and Kimberly Warner, filmmaker and founder of Unfixed Media and Unfixed Community youtube channel. In 2015, Kimberly was diagnosed with cervicogenic vertigo and Mal de Débarquement Syndrome (MdDS) that manifests as a constant perception of rocking, bobbing and swaying.
The Life Rebalanced Chronicles documents nine vestibular patients who are learning to live with disorders such as vestibular migraines, MdDS, Meniere’s Disease and vestibular neuritis. Through intimate conversations, they explore parts of the human experience impacted by their vestibular dysfunction - mind, body, spirit, relationships, self and life. They also share their personal toolkits for living and thriving with their disorders and provide strategies from meditation, yoga and journaling to advocacy and finding meaning and purpose within their “new normal.”
“This honest and inspiring docuseries shines a light on invisible balance disorders and brings more awareness and empathy to the vestibular experience,” says Cynthia Ryan, Executive Director of VeDA. “We are honored to work with filmmaker and vestibular patient Kimberly Warner, who brings lived experience to each episode as she compassionately helps each individual share their unique journey toward healing and hope.”

VEDA and all the participants, you have spoken to my spirit in ways that promote healing, tears that fall, souls that hold on to better days. Prayers with gratitude daily, moving forward despite my conditions. Occupational therapy came first, and the "inner" soul nurturing has compelled me to fight on. Thank you all for these Life Rebalanced Chronicles.

Listening to you all I realise I still have a long way to go in this journey, I'm still defeated and in the coming to terms stages. I've been stuck in bed for 5 days now due to constant menieres symptoms. I hope in the future I find the mind state shown here by a lot of you, and find the courage and strength to deal with the cards I've been given. Most importantly, you give me hope.

As I traveled down the road with each one of you, I realized how you individually triumphed over this devastating disease. Nevertheless, y'all found the fortitude to keep getting back up. I salute you all for your indomitable spirit.

So true !! I lost my way when Meniere's started after a plane ride to see my sons boot camp graduation from the Army. But therapy really helped me a lot and even regained my faith in God too. :)

I can NOT tell you what it feels like to see and hear the stories of others!!!!
I contracted meningitis turned encephalitis 12 years ago 4 1/2 months after my child was born. I lost 100% of my vestibular system. I feel hopeless some days. Others, I’m very HAPPY to be alive. This is an invisible issue.
I’m 100% deaf in my right ear, due to the Brian damage. No hearing aide of any kind can help. To hear you all explain the things. It swells my heart with pain and relief that there ARE other people that understand me! It’s so hard! I’m so glad you are all doing well. This is a bizarre type thing to have to go through. It’s changes you. It truly does. I really wish I could talk to any of you!

this episode is very touching, my eye opener was getting the proper diagnosis of pppd , i knew by testing and by what the doctor said that I had all the symptoms, it feel like finally this is it, and I starting to see vestibular PT . i feel im on the right track, its up to me to put work in now to help alleviate the symptoms i can, i feel like i can breathe again. my syptoms are starting to lighten just a little and thats enough hope for me to keep going daily, i have no where to go but up. i went to an event yesterday and felt like i was in my own skin. :)

I identify a lot, I have been with this for a year and I cry every day for not being the one before, I cry for not being able to be a mother, wife and I cry for being alone and that nobody believes or days that I only feel a burden for everyone, I just wonder What did I do to deserve this and there are days that I just wake up and try to live the day as I can
