Re-Learning How To Skate Ledges In My 30s!

- Ever since I had back to back knee injuries about ten years ago, I have lost a lot of my basic tricks as well as my confidence with ollies. Now, being sober and focusing more on my health, my body feels better than ever and today I decided to work on a trick that I have always wanted to learn as well as a few that I’ve done in the past but haven’t felt confident with recently. I’m psyched to keep practicing ledge skating and eventually take these tricks to the streets. If you guys have any tips for skating ledges leave them in the comments below!

“Re-Learning” proceeds to land Every ledge trick I dream about learning some day 🤣 sick session Chad
Exactly what i thought 😂
He kinda seems like me in that I’m 36 now, and skated like crazy when I was a teenager, but could really only do like 7-10 tricks solidly, the 5-0 being one of them, but when I turned like 23-24, life just got in the way, I moved to all kinds of different locations that mostly weren’t at all skate friendly unless I felt like doing nothing but laps in the underground garage of my building lol, and eventually just gave it up altogether. But they recently built a park around the corner from where I live, and I kept driving by it and just wanting so badly to have a reason to go, so I went and got a trick deck again because I’ve still been long boarding and cruising this entire time, and honestly after a few bails and some hard hits to the pavement after getting cocky, I started getting my legs back, and was doing heel flips and board slides literally within like the first couple hours, and by the end of the DAY I was dropping in on the 6 footer haha 😂
Many guys back then also just gave it up when they realized they’d never get sponsored.
The ones who are picking it up again are the ones who truly loved what they were doing.
Love the tutorial vids. I’m a 45 year old Dad picking up skateboarding again after 20 years
Inspirational brother!
When you came in most parallel to the ledge you made the tries (nollie k grind)
Me too. black rolls and stretching helps a lot
Your skating is so buttery smooth, you’re killing it man!
u can tell Chad is living sober doesnt smoke ciggs, eats right, probably stretches, and is in hella good shape, to pull all this off in a 2 hr session, take notes kids, take notes
tbh I think he still smokes but then again so did Obama and he was president and hit 3 pointers and stuff.
@@darrinsiberia lmfao I'd like to Barack in a game of SKATE
I’m 19 can’t even skate past 3 hours without feeling worn down
I love how Chad says he doesn't skate ledges, then proceeds to lay down like 20 different tricks
Switch back 180 nosegrind is too good
My gf and cousin bought me a complete, and im 27 turning 28. Its been about 4-5 years. Im stoked to skate again!
Had almost the same idea as Chad, re-learning grinding ledges BUT in my 40´s, after a 25 year break from skating.. Fractured my Ribs.. But it was worth it, the feeling of landing just a basic 50/50 was awesome.. I´ll be back...in 2 months..
Bro that's awesome! I mean, not the ribs part that's a bummer.. I'm kinda in the same boat 17 year break an sketched out about popping up there an slipping out just like that..
@@ericd8687 yea it was scary to do it. I started out slow on a curb and worked my way up to higher ledges from there.
Yeah bro! I’m back on the board cause my son picked it up. He’s 14 i’m 44. No Fear. I have insurance.
@@416cyclestyle Lol, insurance is a must at our age! :) I also skate with my 9yo.
I'm back into my skating in my 40's too and learning (not re-learning) to skate ledges, because I never learnt to skate them back in the day. Still working on VERY basic stuff like yesterday getting BS 50-50's for the first time ever. So basic but feels amazing. Anyways, I can relate and I hope your ribs are on the mend.
"Never been in to skating ledges"
Proceeds to do a sw crook and nollie crook
this mans just a skate god
i thought the same lol, i was expecting to watch only 50-50's
I thought the same thing, then he does more ledge tricks and variations than I have ever done. Smh
if you’re as good at transitions as he is, all it takes to translate that to ledges is getting your ollies and ollie variations down, the rest is pretty much a cake walk.
That front crook doesn't translate very easyly from transition to street...
Love the “oh yeah!” falls, sums up the experience quite well 😂 nice skating!
Hey, cheers for the good work and advices. 45 young and surfing for 27 years. Felt always to old to start skating and embarrassed, but since my 9 years old son started skating 3 years ago, I got rid of this negative idea and felt in love with skating. Never too old to feel like a child again. Your work is very inspirational. Cheers from Barcelona:)
I appreciate ur all in attitude toward new moves thats Mark of a warrior
I would appreciate more ledge videos like this, helpin me with the confidence
yeah chad. cool to see you learn nollie crook, I learnt it after like 15 years of always wanting to and now it's kinda easy.
I'm really glad you're doing well on yt and wish you great success in the future dawg x
When you nollie crook, run parallel to the ledge rather then angling yourself towards it. That way it's easier to get up over it. I went from nollie crooking every once out of 10 tries to like 8 out of 10 using my own advice.
I was not expecting him to drop so many hammers on that ledge! Keep killing it chad!
I feel like this guy should write a book called "getting comfortable with uncomfortability" because he shows that ATTITUDE determines everything. You miss 100% of the tricks you don't try.
You have my favorite skate videos. I love you man, keep it up
Props brother you getting out their gotta put in work. You got my support
hey man i love your videos I just found you earlier today and I've been binging ur videos and watching u do sick tricks I've been wanting to get down for so long, so glad u have tons of how to videos I love mini ramps and im struggling with ledges, rails and street and stuff but you help alot thanks :)
love the vid keep up the great work!
Hey Chad. Love the videos. I’m back in the mini ramp at 30 after not skating since 16, thanks for the motivation.
You're still so good at skating ledges! Great video as always, inspired me to document my return to skating :)
straight fire bro, keep it up
Awesome! One of my favorite videos u made 👍🏻
Love it! Great video style
I’m the same way with nollie crooks. Never gave any effort into doing them. I would land in noseslide all the time. Little trick I noticed while doing them. If you’re regular, shift your shoulders as if you are gonna be looking to your right. Keep your shoulders parallel looking that way. Hope it helps!!
This is such a nice angle i love your vids mannn
35 years old and relearning how to skate. My kids just got into skateboarding this year, I dusted off my old Element Setup and started skating again. It blows my mind how and extra 50lbs and 15 years can kill your style lol. It's like I never skated before. I can still Ollie and Kickflip, easy stuff is still possible. Ledges though, lost that completely. Back to the drawing board lol. Appreciate the content man, you have helped me progress alot.
That ledge looks amazing! You’re killing it, bro! Nollie Crooked is one of my goal tricks also 🤘🏽. Try Half Cab noseslide 270 out. Such a fun trick
Killing it!!! You rule.
Good skating mate, some impressive combinations 🙌🏻
That 180 nose to fakie was fire
yooo what's good Chad seen you on Hubbards path on my board earlier today was good to see you bro, stay killing it !!!!
cool beat, strong nujabes vibes
Love your videos amigo
So good! Chad I really want to learn bs feebles on rails any chance you can do a trick tip? (Since your tricktips are way more detailed then others)
My bro killing it !!
Can’t wait for this video
Sooo good!!
Impressive man! I'm 32 just starting to skate after 15 years off! You're ahead of me for sure but I'm excited to keep improving!
I'm 31 and I just started teaching myself how to skate. I just updoaded a progression video and it's not very good but it's a start! Seeing you do this is so inspiring, keep it up! Looking forward to seeing more from you.
maybe too late. Tried to find it, but couldn't :(
Transition Master tearing up the street too! Woooowee get it Chad! Always killer content!
You are great my friend🙏🏻🏆❤️ keep it up
Glad i found and watched this. Age is just a number. Inspired 🤙
This was inspiring 🙏🏼
Nollie K grinds were clean! Very inspiring.. Keep shredding, G
Steezy wit it keep it up 👍
Key to nollie krook come straight on no angle back foot closer up by the nose for extra pop, more speed. Practice nollie nosemannies. When you lock it in lean back for pop out.
How someone skates this well in their 30s is beyond me, you're a legend Chad
Hey Jake, ever heard of my favorite skater for 20 plus years, a 45 years old guy named Daewon Song ? ;-) If not, he is going to blow your mind.
Or what about Andrew Reynolds? 42..Tony Alva?!
@@ericd8687 Tony Alva shows up to my local park at least once a month and he’s still butter. It’s kind of crazy that I didn’t really know who he was when he was skating there as I just got into skating. Just thought he was just some dude who was “pretty good”.
@@TheQuilava96 Bro I would of lost my $#it! lol that's a real legend broski.. Just to share a sesh with em would be soooo dope..
@@TheQuilava96 The grandfather of skateboarding "pretty good" lmao
hell yeah man!
Re learned backside rail slides and learned frontside rail slides on blocks at age 45 after a 25 year layoff lol like riding a bike, minus the hip pointers.
nailed that nollie crook!!
awesome vid
I live in augusta ga and when you said alright hoodies coming off, I felt that xD suckss cold in the morning hot asf rest of the day
I'm 35 and wish I could call a backside tailslide shove-it, switch nosegrind, and nollie crooked grind basic. 😆 That ledge looks perfect.
yes
for someone who doesn't skate ledges you fookin murdered this ledge
hell yea 🍃
I don't think you give yourself enough credit of how good you actually are dude
Ledges are my favorite 👌
Chad caruso! Such a nice guy
bro you're hella buck for 35! and that ledge game is actually good! if you would come to one of the parks where i live you would be by far the best skater and most of the locals are 15-25. but then again im from montreal canada so skate scene is almost non existent
“I don’t know how to skate ledges” proceeds to destroy the ledge. Hey, heck u bro 😂
After watching first 2 minutes 17 seconds I'm gonna say Chad oughtta change the title of this video to 'Smashing ledges in my 30s!'
Nollie Krook! Let’s go!
You make ledge skating look easy... like everything lol
Nice style bro
That fs 180 sw 5-0 was a dream
Please do more ledge vids!!! That was so sick
Check out groton, westerly, and omf skate parks.
Im littlerly doing the same shit fml i wish i never stopped im gonna work on small pools with coping i was never good at vert stuff so learing that stuff looks fun
beast!
Chad's 'Non-ledge skater' switch game blasts me out of the water skating regular..
That place is never empty when I’m there how🤯🤯🤯
Nice bro
Good to see your legs are rolling after the stairs.
skating at least 1 solid hour of flatground at least once a week definitely helps keep the street pop muscles in shape
Man @tao30 your sooo good. you totally inspire me. Greets from Northern Germany 🤙🏻 ⬆️ do not understand this disliker... do it better ⬆️
I can’t do nollie crook for my life, I want to soo bad tho. Hell yeahhh
Daddy Chaddy skating the ledge on flatty
Damn that ledge sounds like it grinds perfect, just a little chunky.
A ledge like that is all i need
Me every time I think about trying skating a ledge: 3:05
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🤟🏾
Can you teach how to no comply tail drop in plz🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Have you tried flipping into a grind on mini ramps?
Front crook , back tail, warmup.. :/
Your idea of not being a ledge skater and my idea of not being ledge skater are two totally different things!
You always sell yourself so short man.. that was an impressive session. Jamie Thomas did a recent Stop & Talk with Nine Club, think he talked about his secret to crooks being about the balance point. Check it out!
Am in my 30s and still love ledges
Come to Hampton Bays skate park
I bet u can switch 270 front blunt it
What size wheels do you skate bro?
Which shoes are you using?
Front 180 nose blunt
Nice vid but how is nollie crook a basic ledge trick?
2 weeks ago nollie noseslide bought me to hospital.. I had luck just bruised my chest 🤨
What kind of boards are those?
I love your Vids lad 👍 I just can't get why all boomer generation of skaters seem to think 30s are hard it's your prime 🤣👏
