Keeping the teens from smoking only makes it worse imo. That's usually what the parents on this show go for first, but the teens are just gonna act out from withdrawal, on top of the fact that they don't know how to act anyways. Personally, i think nick and his mum really need that talk, but it couldn't happen until he acknowledged where his anger and pain stemed from.
I say this because my 18 year old son has had his moments in life where he has tried to find some kind of connection to someone he never knew. When i was pregnant, my sons biological father was killed.
I can understand nick having so many questions and feeling like he carries the blame, as i went through that with my son.
Once they can have that heart to heart conversation, they will see that the light at the end of the tunnel can be brighter.
