Mike Patton is one of the most under appreciated voices in music
Under appreciated is proper in his case. Everyone knows he's a great singer, so he's definitely rated properly.
On the contrary he is lauded for his vocal mastery. And his band Mr Bungle... his label Ipecac Recordings wirh great music... A well appreciated artist.... He does a lot of stuff.
Mr. Bunghole!
You're out of your mind. Patton is well known and appreciated as one of the best vocalists in rock.
Tomahawk … mr bungle … peeping Tom … that teenage what ever
“A Small Victory” and “Midlife Crisis” from their Album Angel Dust show some real growth of their talent.
I'm hoping they do Midlife Crisis, next, but definitely Small Victory and Kindergarten.
Anything of Angel Dust is great. I consider it to be the best metal album of the 90s.
My sentiments exactly.
Yup those two for sure. "Caffeine" if you want their HARD hardcore sound.
...actually, I would say: "Everything's Ruined";
"Smaller & Smaller"; "RV" and "Kindergarten" show that MUCH, much more (as well as: "Jizzlobber" and "Caffeine").
Their cover of "Easy" would definitely qualify as "good trip" also its a flawlees cover. "Give the people what they want."
Yes, Easy is one of the best all time covers.
I am fully convinced that Faith No More's version is BETTER than The Commodores' original!
-The fact that they, originally, released it on an E.P. called:
Songs To Make Love To
(featuring -an image of-: 2 rhinos, having intercourse, with the sunset behind them😛😛; as the cover).
along with a cover of the Dead Kennedys' [sic] "Let's Lynch the Landlord"
(and an original which: the record label's refusal to use umlauts in their printing of text, actually, altered the meaning of the song-title!!🤦🙄)
...is, all, somehow: "just perfect." 😜
Welp, guess I'm 6 hours late to make this comment.😅
They cover this guys in love also which is pretty cool
@@stevelaconte8802 If you're going to count the songs (or bits of songs!) they do, live, I think it MIGHT, actually, come out to: "half classic soul and disco, half F.N.M. material" 😛😛🤪
🤷
They are capable of doing justice to anything! 🤘🤘
This entire album is fire. I absolutely love the bass on this.🔥🤘🏻
How many tapes/cd's did you do through? Tape, 5. Cd's are more durable, so only 2. I had it in my car for a year, I believe. My hubby threatened my CD! LOL
"zombie eaters", "woodpecker from Mars", "the real thing", "out from nowhere" are a few other bangers from them. This whole record is incredible, anything from it is worth a listen
The Real Thing has been one of my favorite albums since it released. I would add "Surprise! You're dead!"
Nobody ever seems to react to instrumentals, but "Woodpecker From Mars" is amazing.
Love Black Sabbath's cover War Pigs, I personally think it sounds better than the original by Sabbath.
Their next album, Angel Dust, hits heavier, but is a classic inspiration in the metal community. "Midlife Crisis" "Everything's Ruined"
Yes! Everything's ruined is one of my favorite songs.
Angel Dust is one of the greatest and most influential albums of all time for sure.
Another must-hear from this album is "Surprise, You're Dead!".
Great song to open a second set👍🏻
Faith No More are super amazing. All albums are great, but Angel Dust and King for a Day are beyond musically fantastic. Read some of the lyrics when you get a chance. I don't know why but they resonate with me. Glad you're enjoying one of my favorites.
“Droplets of yes and no, in an ocean of maybes”. Brilliant writing
A couple of my personal favorites from Faith No More are Last Cup of Sarrow & Ashes to Ashes. One of the most popular and recognizable songs must be We Care A Lot as it played in the intro of Dirty Jobs. The bass riff totally sticks and once you've heard it you never forget it.
Yay! One of my favorite bands! Mike Patton is by far the best vocalist in the industry! You should also check out their cover (and the original, too, by the Bee-Gees) of 'I Started A Joke.'
Good song to check out but you might want to avoid the video. None of the band is in it and the actor who is lip syncing distracts from the great vocals Mike is doing.
I remember the first incarnation of Faith no More - with Chuck Mosley as lead singer and I'd recommend you check out their song "We Care a Lot" - which has the same vibes and is really cool. Another artist from that time you must check out is Henry Rollins - especially songs like "Disconnect" and "Liar". I saw Henry Rollins live several times in Melbourne - with the band as well as when he was doing spoken word. Awesome artist ❣
I *think* they already did Liar.
Hey, it doesn't look like they've done any Henry Rollins.@@rowanmayfair9249
"Low Self-Opinion" is a ROLLINS BAND classic.
...but really: they should go to: BLACK FLAG (w. Kira Roessler
...but also: Chuck Dukowski).
Those mid-late '80s albums SLAP like an open hand on meth.!
😋🤪😛🤘🤘
Agreed!@@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra
Mike Patton is an absolute genius. "Droplets of yes and no, in an ocean of maybe" - so good. Check out Mr.Bungle
Brilliant lyric.
I like the next bit combined with the part you mentioned.
From the bottom, it looks like a steep incline
From the top, another downhill slope of mine.
But I know, the equilibrium is there.
@@rowanmayfair9249 Best two quotes from the song right there from @MetalMcfly and @rowanmayfair9249. I was about to quote them, but ya beat me to it on both.
Such a brilliant line!!
one of the coolest frontmen in music, so much energy, react to a small victory, such a phenomenal song
FNM are a gem of the early 90s when grunge ruled you still had this band along with Queensryche
They are NOTHING like Queensryche!!!!!!
@@sparkyth67 I know FNM is nothing like quuensryche but QR was another rock band that didn't change their style to be grunge during that time early in the 90s one of only a handful of Hard Rock bands to not change their style to stay popular
@@Amendoza17174 I'm not aware of anyone from the 80's that did change their style to grunge . That crap did pretty much kill the rock scene though.
Yall gotta check out "Zombie Eaters" by these guys! It's written from the perspective of an infant, never heard another tune like it!
If I could Second, Third and Fourth, this one I would. 😆
I've been a fan of Faith No More since this album, but only in the last 5 years has Falling To Pieces become one of my favorite, bouncy jams. Cheers to both of you!
Faith no More are unique. And weird. Mike Patton is a crazy genious. They have so much variety in what they do, these 2 songs you've listened to are the commercial ones, easy-listening. If you want deep, sober, emotional, different, react to their song Pristina. Very different. It will get to you. It's just a wow masterpiece.
I am SO glad you dig this Jay! They are 100% outside the box and its awesome you get it and want to head down the FNM rabbit hole.
‘Ashes to Ashes’ ‘From Out of Nowhere’ ‘Last Cup of Sorrow’ are some of my favourites, and yes.. the cover of ‘Easy’ is chefs kiss!!
It's about time y'all finally got this song! Those switches and flows are time time signature changes. 🤣
May I suggest Midlife Crisis next. One of their best! Oh and "Another Body Murdered" from the Judgement Night Soundtrack that they did with Booya Tribe. GREAT SONG!
"Last Cup of Sorrow" and "Midlife Crisis" are two more Faith No More hits to check out! Also, for "take it easy, trippy" Faith No More, check out "Edge of the World" and their cover of The Commodores "Easy".
I named the same two songs you did!
Fun Fact: Mike Patton has one of the widest known ranges for any singer, with a full 6 octaves. From low to very high...he is an another level than most singers!
The Faith No More songs "A Small Victory" and "Midlife Crisis" are both great songs. You should also check out the video for "We Care a Lot" which features FNM's original lead singer Chuck Mosley. My favorite FNM song was never released as a single. It is called "Zombie Eaters".
From out of nowhere is my favorite song from this band❤
Haven't heard this song in years. I forgot how awesome it is. Thanks for bringing me back to this. Excellent reaction. 😁
Faith No More - Easy (Official Music Video)👍👍👍
Agreed!!
The singer, Mike Patton has the best vocal range out there, check out The Real Thing, Zombie Eaters, Strip search, Midlife Crisis, Just A Man and Evidence, you won't even believe it's the same singer!!
A Small Victory… one of my all time favorites from this awesome band. Thanks for the video, guys… and Jay, there is still so much to go about from FNM! Glad that you enjoy their music as much as I do!
Yaaaaaas! These guys are so great. So underrated and this and Epic are great you'll have to definitely do 'We Care A Lot'!!!!!!
FINALLY! My favorite Faith No More Song
Mike Patton has been in a lot of bands. In many different styles. Man can sing anything. A few I would love to see you react to. Mr Bungle “ Pink Cigarette”, Tomahawk “God Hates a coward”, Lovage “Pit Stop” and Peeping Tom “Mojo”. Honestly he is one of the artists that you should devote a day to three songs by the same artist from time to time. Love you guys. You have helped keep me positive through rough times.
I had forgotten how much I like this song. Thanks for playing it.
The album this and 'Epic' are both are off is 'The Real Thing', the whole album is amazing, other tracks you should react to are: "From Out of Nowhere", "Zombie Eaters", "Surprise! You're Dead!", "The Morning After", "The Real Thing", "Underwater Love", "The Edge of The World", their cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs", the whole album is a masterpiece.
One of my son's favorite groups!!! I TOOK HIM WHEN HE WAS 13 TO SEE BILLY IDOL, FAITH NO MORE AND WANG CHUNG....EXCELLENT, ESP BILLY!!!🎤🎤🎤🎤🎸🎸🎸🎸🎹🎹🎷🎸🎷🎵🎶🎵
Mom’s rad! 🥇
Goood parenting !
I LOVE Faith No More and suggested them to you a long time ago. So glad you are listening and loving !!!!!!!
One of the greatest albums ever. The Morning After (the opening bass will blow your mind) is my favorite song on this album and I love every song.
They did a cover of the Commodore's Easy. Check it out. It is so out of their wheelhouse but it works.
What I love about Faith No More is that every album was completely different. A lot of that comes from singer Mike Patton who's one of the most versatile figures in music. Dude has like a dozen bands that are all unique. He's done everything from rock, rap, trip hop, pop, jazz, death metal and even an album of 1960's Italian love songs performed with a full orchestra. If you ever want a rabbit hole to go down, just start checking out his career.
Yes!!!!! Thank you!!! (Lead singer Mike Patton has a 6 octave range (for comparison Mariah Carey has a 5 octave range) and an even broader taste in all music, he also is associated or part of Mr. Bungle, Fantômas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom along with solo work and voice overs, he was the voice of the creatures in I Am Legend among MANY other side projects)
From Out Of Nowhere
The Morning After
Zombie Eaters
Underwater Love
Edge Of The World
Easy....1 word: dayum
Midlife Crisis.
Oh, his voice is an instrument of monumental proportions.
@@tacticorememes amen
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Don't hurt yourself!
@Spo-Dee-O-Dee That's just it. I posted that for the background of the artist. Not to take measurements.
I think, actually, it's, like "5.8" octaves, or something (or maybe 6.2)🤷🤷
...whatever the case: his range is insane! ...but the manners in which he is capable of using it, is the REAL key (& the thing which makes him so amazing!)!
Epic is a great song but I love the groove of this song. The video is once again a whirlwind and an acid trip. Crazy ass band and I love them! Good choice!
I was actually recently thinking about suggesting them again, so.....yay!!! My favorite song by them is "Ashes to Ashes" where you can actually hear Mike's great "singing" voice alot. Gotta try "Midlife Crisis" too. Very underrated. I remember watching them the first time they were on Saturday Night Live, right around 1990 I guess, and just saying I had never seen a drummer just attacking those drums like their drummer did. Amazing live!
Ashes to Ashes is my favorite also 👍🏼
I remember that SNL, I watched it live. Patton was so out there, still is, but nowhere near his younger years. I may have also watched it because that man is one of the reasons I wanted to become a groupie, lol. Such high aspirations.
Album of the Year is full of Mike Patton legit singing.
These dudes are beyond real. Their messages are superb. They’ll get you through the lowest points & come out shining on the other side. It’s all about FAITH ✨
194, love these guys, Their version of Easy, by The Commodores is awesome. Or their version of War Pigs by Black Sabbath.
It’s cool you guys are digging faith no more, honestly they are a hidden treasure in music, extremely diverse band, maybe as diverse as it gets, they have some stuff that is so beautiful, then, some stuff they can just hurt your feelings, extremely influential, I hope you guys enjoy the Faith No More Journey as you continue
Cool! Always loved these guys. I love the weird stuff! And that bass!!
I am new to your channel. As of today. Absolutely love you two. Been deep diving all day. Plus you play deep cuts. Fan forever.
Hey, great reaction. My wife is good friends with the cousin of the bassist of Faith No More. Had the chances to meet him at a party in the late 90's. Cool, talented guy.
YAY!!! This song is awesome! So glad you are doing this song!!
Faith No More has many awesome tunes. One of my favorites is The Gentle Art of Making Enemies.
What a trip down memory lane! I used to rock this in my Walkman as a kid…singing loudly while mowing the lawn….
wooohoo, love these guys, epic rocks forever ----ufo love to love another request,,, YOU WILL HAVE it ON PLAYLIST
The first time I heard this band I loved them right away. They are completely original and blended so many different styles of music together in such an artful way. I love when he lays down those bars. 🕊❤️🎼
I love their cover of “easy” ❤
🔥🔥🔥Their tune Midlife Crisis kicks serious butt!!
Peace From PA ✌️
I'm giggling as I type this, but Mike Patton's other band called Mr. Bungle is also freaking awesome. Oh yeah, he's wearing a Mr. Bungle shirt in the "Epic" video, too.
Forgot all about this song! Thanks for the memory and your reactions ❤
loved the beat in this song and that bass ! Thanks
I love this song! Faith No More were so ahead of their time!
Nice! FNM is one of my all time fav bands. I’m so glad you guys caught the musical diversity. Real quick, the bass player is jazz trained, keyboardist is classically trained, guitarist is metal, the vocalist is sound influenced and the drummer is African rhythm. Yes, Easy is amazing but off of this album, The Real Thing is killer. Full on metal is Digging A Grave.
I'd suggest The Real Thing, it's the title track from the same album as the two songs of theirs you've heard now! It's a longer one but a great, atmoshperic ride.
Also, not sure if anyone's said, but I think it was Falling to Pieces playing in the background early in Black Hawk Down, when they were preparing for the mission, so you've heard a bit before, haha
I agree Angel Dust was full of great music! Kindergarten, A small victory,Midlife crisis, Easy, Everything's ruined, are some that come to mind
Personally, I love "Out of Nowhere".
Mike Patton kills it in every band he has been in. I have seen several of them and he never disappoints.
About time! I recommended this before you even heard Epic. Glad you liked it. Try Midlife Crisis next. Peace.
Sweet! No one ever does Faith No More! I am definitely here for this.😁❤️ This song is a banger too.
PLEASE go down the Faith No More rabbit hole. Such a great band. Another great song from them is Land of Sunshine.
A good friend of mine used to know their drummer, Mike Bordin, back in the 80s. I think he's amazing.
Mike Patton was barely out of high school when he recorded this/joined FNM. His first band, Mr. Bungle is amazing! They combine heavy rock, death metal, jazz, funk, klezmer, ska, lounge, punk, avant garde (sometimes all in the same song!) Definitely check out Mr. Bungle!
A band ahead of their time. This album was a game changer for the late 80’s early 90’s. In that meandering time post hair-metal and pre-grunge. Faith No More has a lot of amazing music but this album was instrumental in altering popular music.
Droplets of 'yes' or 'no' in an ocean of 'maybe' is my favorite lyric ever written
So I loved this band growing up in the 90's (when I was a young adult). And one day my mom came to visit (totally different taste in music) - and I was playing a CD of FNM - and the song she heard was 'Evidence' - and she loved it. Think you will too - and it has a great bass line.
The look Amber gave him when he said "Wazoo"! Lol. She's like "wazoo? Is that a word you use? Thats...weird." haha
Love this song and I love the variety you all cover and introduce people to.
I just remembered a really cool moment on Yo MTV Raps, where they did a song at the end of the show as a request from the host. His name slips my mind at the moment. And it was their slow R&B jam. Edge of the world.
Faith No More - We Care A Lot That song is a MUST and the base riff is killer
You are listening to one of the best singers alive. Mike Patton has a full six octave range, which is a full octave more than even Mariah Carey. Although quirky in mainstream sometimes, please check out some of his other stuff, bands, operas, etc. Faith No More did a cover of a Burt Bacharach song "this guy's in love with you", which is amazing.
Midlife Crisis, The Real Thing, From Out Of Nowhere, We Care A lot, A Small Victory..Their cover of the Commodores classic Easy is brilliant, you guys will love the contrast between all these songs.
Need to really check out more!! This man can sing anything no lie !!!❤😂 Like opera!!!!
This is the band that first mixed rap with rock 😮
This song was so much faster when it was the new back in the early 90's😔
This is my favorite song by this band!
except for the video where they cover "Easy",
by The Commodores, that one was awesome too!
oh yeah and they have another one called "we Care a lot" with their original lead singer 🤩
Technically, that was Run-DMC with Rock Box in 1984.
@@rowanmayfair9249 Indeed. Followed by The Beastie Boys with "Fight for your right to Party" in 1986
@@rowanmayfair9249 Technically, that was The Rolling Stones with Shattered in '78.
Amber and Jay I’m shook Because I’ve been watching the reactions of faith no more and I just saw your reaction to Epic an hour ago so I’m like 🙌 yes I grew up on this band 1989 through 96 and I love Mike Patton he is such a king 👑 Thank you for reacting to this this is one of my favorite songs by them to Falling to pieces oh my God love it ❤️
There is absolutely no way you can do a reaction to it, but listen to MotherF**cker off Sol Inviticus. That song is just so freaking tribal with the chorus and the drums.
I remember this group. The lead singer has a special kind of voice. Another Axle Rose from guns and roses. Love it. 👍🌹💪
Yes! Loved this song and album.
"Let me tell you something Grimes, we're already carrying 50lbs of gear as it is. Don't need another 15. Besides I don't plan on running away." Hearing this song with that bass and riff gets the blood flowing. Plus it's low key the only song I hear when either dressing up or putting on safety equipment.
Faith No More has always been a quirky rock band since their inception in the 80's... When (the late) Chuck Mosley was the singer, they made a very unique demo album 'We care a lot' back in 1985... Faith No More was signed to indie label Slash Records in 1986 and recorded their 2nd studio 'Introduce yourself'... which included a re-recorded version of the single - 'We care a lot'... and an odd rap rock track - "Anne's song".
The band was: Jim Martin (guitar), Billy Gould (bass), Roddy Bottum (keyboards) and Mike 'Puffy' Bordin (drums)... w/ Chuck Mosley (vocals)... but there were problems from the start and alcoholism eventually got Mosley fired from Faith No More by 1988.
Seeking a replacement, FNM finally decided to hire Mike Patton (vocals), whose band Mr. Bungle was another California rock band w/ quirky tunes and struggling at the time... In 1989, the band released 'The Real thing' w/ Patton on vocals (it was the only FNM record where he used a nasally voice)... it was a sonic triumph, but fans didn't get it initially... a mix of funk, punk rock, hard rock, old school rap and even prog rock.
It wasn't until the 'Epic' single became a hit on MTV and propelled Faith No More to platinum sales in 1990.
Faith No More were also very unpredictable - they recorded a cover of Black Sabbath's 'War pigs'... but also covered 'Easy' by The Commodores... "I started a joke" by The Bee Gees...
Rather than go the funk rock route of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Primus... Faith No More released 'Angel Dust' in 1992 and it was a unique hard rock album once again w/ hits like 'Midlife crisis' ... 'A small victory' ... "Everything's ruined"... 'Be aggressive'.
However, the musical direction was not guitarist Jim Martin's liking... he quit FNM in 1993.
1995 saw the release of the album 'King for a day...' and it was a raw and heavy record w/ guitars recorded by Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle... Many felt that it was a Mike Patton solo album and it sold less, despite standout tracks - 'Evidence' ... 'Digging the grave' ... 'The gentle art of making enemies'.
Faith No More released what is essentially their best album in 1997 w/ guitarist Jon Hudson titled 'Album of the year'... Exceptional tracks like - 'Last cup of sorrow' ... 'Stripsearch'... 'Ashes to ashes' ... 'Collision' ... 🔥🔥🤘🤘
Unfortunately, the public was weary of Faith No More and the album sold poorly... the band broke up in 1998.
Faith No More did reform and record a new album 'Sol invictus' in 2015... Their comeback tour was welcomed all over the world.
The Drummer went in to play for Ozzy, he was also one of Cliff Burton’s (Metallica bass player who was killed) best friends.
faith no more are awesome, great live too, saw them at wembley back in the day when they were a support act for guns and roses around 92 i think. they did a great cover of lionel ritchies easy you must take a look at
the morning after is another great song from Faith no More
I love when you guys review my favorite songs. BTW Mike Borden the drummer spent some time in Ozzys band. The also do an excellent cover of Sabbaths War Pigs.
Yep. Mind blown. Patton forever yall
We Care Alot is an early classic from Faith No More before Mike Patton joined the band.
I saw them years ago open for Billy Idol. So much energy and Mike Patton is amazing!
I truly love FNM and always will! Bassist Billy Gould is my favorite member of FNM. Great band to see live, too. I'm taking The Real Thing and Angel Dust with me to the desert island. Nice review and Gobble Gobble, everyone 🦃
The hand with the mouth on it is from the Santa Cruz skateboards we had in the late 80’s!
Faith No More are called alternative metal. They mix alt rock with metal and other experimental sounds. Faith No More and Red Hot Chili Peppers where big influences on the Nu metal sound in the late 90s and early 00s with bands like Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, System of A Down, Linkin Park and even the first Disturbed album.
Ugh…my teenage love for Mike Patton knew no bounds ❤😂…I remember going to see Mr. Bungle at the Metro in Chicago. Got right up in front of the stage, super excited to see MP. Little did my poor naïve self know he’d be wearing a mask the entire show and I’d soon be stuck in a mosh pit the likes of which I’d never seen. 🤣…ah, good times. Lmaoo
Yes Yes. Getting great suggestions by your FAM
Also, digging the shirt from a fellow Jeeper ✌🏼
Mike Patton: The greatest singer to ever walk the Earth
Faith No More barely even scratches the surface of Mike Patton's versatility and genius. FNM had hits but this band was merely just one of many of his projects.
Faith No More is just awesome. The music is great, but this one has some killer lyrics too. I totally relate.
