The trouble with modern boats , the hull is so flat ,that the bow trusted is along way back from the bow, so it moves the boat sideways not just turn the bow .

@@sheilamorrison1954 well to accumulate my nearly 200000 sea miles i must have been out there aswell, older displacement hulls , from the bow deeper, bow thruster more forward You use it the pressure is from the bow , you control the bow and sturn. More modern as in the majority of hulls built flatter bottom , so to have a bow thruster you have to come a.ot further from the bow , the flatter the more you have to come back 5o take the hole , less direct thrust from the bow . You get used to it but its different, Also look at the thruster hole on a modern boat its alot bigger more egg shape , so you don't get a direct thrust sideways , its spread to a wider angle , = less thrust The thurber back the more side push you get of the boat, to counter this some have stern thrusters , so my view is they are less efficient, your turn
but anyway, in this docking manouvre I don't see a problem with the bow-thruster. They could move a little bit faster backwards in order not to drift sideways. But in the end, they dickes without damage. Mission completed. Nevertheless, in stronger side-wind you have to move faster.

That just isnt true. They are plenty ahead of the main hull resistance and do a great job of turning it.
