That was so neat...you know the choreography was attuned to who made the original tune and dance famous was going to be sitting right there watching them all dance. It was darling when they all danced into Dick's direction. Just charming.

The sheer JOY on his face at every event that honors him in even the slightest way always warms my heart so much. Even at nearly 100 years old, you can see that he has the love of his craft deeply engraved in his soul, and will until the very end.

I’m not a big fan of JoJo Siwa, but honestly Dick Van Dyke’s reaction to her dancing to step in. Time is so sweet to watch. He’s one of the most popular, Disney legends of all time, and I love watching him perform as Bert in Mary Poppins. I was so happy that she came back to do the sequel. Mary Poppins returns as dwarfs Junior. He will always be a Disney legend and he will be a part of my childhood for doing Mary Poppins, this is so beautiful 😊

Consider - Dick Van Dyke was 39 when the original Mary Poppins was filmed - he was doing all his high stepping at that age, and then goes on to his dance scenes in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - he truly is a legend - one of the best!
This made me cry because it’s gonna be a sad, sad day in Hollywood when it comes time for Dick Van Dyke to take his final bow. One of my favorite core memories from my childhood was watching the Dick Van Dyke show with my dad. Then watching Mary Poppins with my little brother. Thank you good night for being a huge part of my childhood.

I keep a magazine photo of Dick inside my coffee cabinet and smile at it every morning. I'm 20 years younger than Van Dyke and strive to enjoy life as I see him doing and has always done. What a contribution he has made, culturally and toward humanity itself.

I watched this special when it aired, and the outpouring of love for this iconic performer was so touching. Celebrities and artists put aside their own egos to make it all about this wonderful man who has made an indelible mark on the world. We can only say thank you, Dick Van Dyke, for delighting us and all future generations. You are one of entertainment's immortals.

I honestly had no idea about this special until I saw this video. I had to go watch the whole thing. I cried throughout the entire show. It was incredible.
I didn't know about it either until now...and had tears listening to Dick react to their version of Step In time. How charming...how dear. It's 60 years since Mary Poppins came out (same year as The Beatles movie). I was so smitten with all things British...MP just sent me through the stratosphere because it's set in London.

There has never been a better performer than Dick Van Dyke. I grew up watching him. Now as a 60 year old woman, I still love watching anything he does.
not just this piece but ALL of them, his expressions say it all. He's an icon. He brought so much fun into these movies. If anyone else had done his part, it wouldn't have come out as magical. He is a legend, and always will be. One of the few actors out there who has my full, honest respect. Such a fun and positive personality. We will miss him when his time comes, just like so many others before him, and like more to come. Every sunrise must have a sunset, but the light still reflects on the moon and forever into the endless universe.

I'm a huge huge huge fan of Dick Van Dyke's . I grew up watching him on the Dick Van Dyke show , Mary Tyler More and so many other shows and movies he was in . My grandma will be 98 on January 26th of this year.

Chitty was released 4 years before I was even born so he had always been a presence in my life with all of his films and TV shows that we got in the UK. He is the same age as my Gran! He is fantastic and still looks very youthful. The only thing that Brits have a comedy field day with is his “cockney” accent which was a bit dubious but I can’t imagine anybody else in the role now.

Love watching JoJo dance. She has so much natural energy. Did she choreograph? There is still nothing better than Dick Van Dyke’s original dance. They broke mold with him. Derek Hough did a good one too in 2018.

@@Maishley I can't say for sure but if I were to guess the tap sounds were a part of the track that was playing. Her feet were probably doing the correct movements and such but I don't think it's likely that the actual sound of her shoes would be picked up that loudly (plus those shoes didn't really look like tap shoes to me). It's very possible she actually was tap dancing though

My aunt went to school with his daughter. She always had such nice things to say about him. I remember watching chitty chitty bang bang with her for the first time and her telling me stories about him. He's such an amazing man!

Dick Van Dyke has been an icon through my years of growing up. I used to watch the Dick Van Dyke show with Mary Tyler Moore who played his wife on the show. Incredibley kind man who made us laugh. He deserves these accolades!
