Camping at Milan Hill State Park and Hiking Mount Cabot

- I've almost finished my NH 48 and I'm tired. This week I go for something a little easier by camping after my drive north, then hiking Mount Cabot. It was nice to have this one left on my list because I very much appreciated the gentle slope of the trail.

Your videos have been so helpful to my girlfriend and I this past summer in choosing the best campgrounds and finding neat things to do around them. Looking forward to visiting Milan Hill in the future. Thank you for the effort you've put into making these.

Winter hiked Cabot after 4” of fresh snow! Chilly night in that little shack!

Oh wow, I see those photos of that cabin all frosted over. It's sort of on my list but probably would want the husband on that one. It's a long ways up there! But you are right - these trips make the best memories.

I think they are a little flexible on the closing of the gate. Last year when I went up Cabot, I rushed to get down by 4:20pm (thinking I may have to sleep in my car). There were many others behind me that didn’t seem to be worried. I’m guessing whoever shuts the gate doesn’t want to deal with calls asking for the gate to reopen late in the night. Seems there are park rangers in buildings just outside the gates. Maybe they are stationed there and can close the gates anytime. Thanks for sharing...
Yes, this seems true. Seems the word doesn't get out to everyone but that's probably because they want to discourage people hanging out in there for the wrong reasons.

Yeah, I've come a long way on that since I used to dislike camping. There are so many ways to do it and I finally found ways that work for me.

The gate hasn’t been closed in years. I think even when it was getting closed, you could just have them open it if you were locked in (there are people in those fish hatchery houses). Your time will come for a moose, I’m sure!

Great shot of that sun going down. Man, I envy you being able to get up there every weekend. Don't feel bad - I don't see moose either. They started closing the gate regardless of cars in the lot because no-good-nicks have started partying and causing trouble up there. That's why we can't have nice things. How many of your 48 are left?
Yeah, I thought of you and the orange Newt! I actually did see a moose once at Lonesome Lake. And one time up north. But it has been a very long time. I have two hikes left but trying to ditch a chest cold that is lingering. It is nice to live closer and we talk about moving even farther north when both kids are in college.

It is good to finally be old enough to fully understand and accept myself. Nature is the best thing to balance out the very strong vibe of humans.
Totally agree and "vibe" with that:) Much healthier than sipping whiskey to calm the incessant hum of nonsense while the world heats up. Wish I lived closer to the Whites. All those rocks, roots, and steep slopes make a wonderful difference:) I'm yearning to return. Until then I'll content myself with the salt water marshes, sandy beaches, and refineries of pancake flat Delaware. Nature's solice is still attainable here in small weekend doses (outside of the tourist season lol)@@RachelWhelton
