You guys, are in my book of friends. You HEAR the music and words. Such an emotional song. Listened to this so much summer of 1975...I was 15, she was 17. Yeah, I'm ancient. This music is partly why I've been with this most wonderful woman for over 47 years and married 45. I'm 63, she's 65.

John/Taupin is one of the most productive, successful and enduring song-writing partnerships in pop culture of the last 70 years. Their general method is rather interesting. Taupin writers a lyric - a poem, really - and when he's done he gives it to Elton, who then finds musical ideas and structures that complement whatever thoughts or sentiments are in the words. They don't really write together, it's usually this two stage process. But the words definitely come first, and provide the spark to Elton's musical imagination; and without the words, there would be no songs.

Man, Elton John has always been among my favorite artists pretty much forever. Bernie Taupin wrote nearly all of his lyrics, and is perhaps the best lyricist from the era, matched only by Paul Simon IMO. EJ would read the lyrics and have music for them in under 20 minutes. If something didn't come to him naturally in that time, he would discard the lyric and try another.
The thing that blows me away is that he was pretty consistently putting out 2 albums a year for the early to mid 70s, with no "filler" songs; and he composed, arranged, and recorded them all himself. Each song is unique, and the music supports the story being told by the words. Most other bands at this time had multiple people writing their songs, and did not manage to produce this many quality albums. For this reason, I am compelled to believe that Elton John was the best composer of the era.

What you do is "keep" this song as a future gift. For someone you want to give a very special gift to. Out of all the songs you know, this is the one song that you wish you could have written for them. Then SING it to them while it plays in the background. And if it's the first time they ever heard it, all the better. đŸ€

"A Song for You" by Leon Russel is in the same emotion, but perhaps more "Down to the bone" emotional. Hey I like you guys! You feel it!!

5:33 You are so right. Thank you for this great reaction. Besides the melody, he finds unique chords on his piano that so often make me cry 😂 and they're not even sad songs. My favorites are Madman Across the Water(1971)r, Indian Sunset (1971), Where To Now St. Peter?(1970)

Elton was only 20 when he wrote that melody. More amazingly, Bernie Taupin was only 16 when he wrote the lyrics!

. Agree
. Melody! Creativity, talent, unique, great music! The Beach Boys have a song on their “Sunflower” album called “Add some music to your day” The lyrics to that song sum up all that you were saying about listening to music! Thank you
Enjoyed your reaction 💙😀

Elton John is my first memory of music. I was like 6 years old in 1975. It was intense.

You have to back to 1971 for me with his Madman Across the Water album. It's definitely my favourite with some of his best songs.

Hi there, the guys have reacted to a few Elton John songs so far, apart from Your Song, they've reacted to Rocket Man, Sacrifice and Daniel. I'm sure they will be doing many more! 👍

I just wish they'd react to some of his lesser known album tracks. What about Tower of Babel, The Ballad of Danny Bailey, Holiday lnn, My Father's Gun, The Ballad of the Boy in the Red Shoes for instance.

Great reaction, guys! Elton is my all-time favorite. You need to hear Levon, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, and Empty Garden (written in memory of John Lennon). Keep up the good work!
