It was probably not a big deal for you to make this video but it is a huge deal for me. I lost my dad when I was young and didn't have anyone to teach me much about working on cars. Thank you for your help!!
My dad is pretty useless, and he's still alive.
As a young guy who's dad works at a dealership can't say the same. He doesn't know much about imports or electricals though so you making this video definitely helps me out. @RustBeltAuto
@@RustBeltAuto Why not just say thank you, glad I could help ?
@@daveallen2455 why are you trying to put words in my mouth?
@@RustBeltAuto Because you are a f***** idiot. How's that.
Tools used: 14mm long handled wrench for tensioner, bungee cord for belt, 10mm wrench for nut behind plug, 12mm socket for alternator bolts.
Thank you!
Should of read this before 😂
Fantastic video, thank you for your repair explanation, by far the best video placed on alternator replacement on a Honda 2004
@@atta7191 I concur with your sentiment, however you dropped your comment in the replies to my comment so OP may not see it. Cheers
Thanks I don’t understand how some people put CZcams work on here on how to do it but don’t say or label the tools needed
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to fix my 05 accord alternator this morning after work when my car wouldn’t start. You saved me a ton of money!
Great video. Done in 30 minutes. Never even worked on my Accord before either.
My wife and I went on vacation; so we thought! Driving from an hour north of Eugene Oregon to Las Vegas Nevada our car battery died about 45 miles North of Susanville California. We got towed to Susanville and I knew to replace the alternator along with the battery. I watched this video and it was Just PERFECT 👍! I knew the tools to get and was able to get us back on the road without paying for a shop. Thank You for taking the time to post this. Especially the tensioner part; without seeing the LONG wrench that you used for the proper leverage I would have been lost. And me and wife would have endured even more stress. Great Job with this clear easy to follow instructional video!
Why did you replace the battery?
@NBHank He probably tested the battery and it was no good anymore so he just replaced it. It could also have been that he didn't want to charge the battery so he just got a new one.
@@Lancercat255probably had warranty on the battery
Did my first alternator replacement. This was a huge help. Thank you.
4 years later and this video still came in clutch. Swapped a k24 into my fd2 and had difficultly due to space issues. Never the less you showed and explained it very easily! Thank you brother
Honda's will never ever die!!!!!!
No "okay bye" at the end... Didn't have to replace the alternator in my old ladies Honda with that 2.4 in the 175K miles that we had it... Looks like a super easy job though and I give props to the engineers that designed it. I feel like the Alternator, starter and fuel pump should all have easy access to replace. I'm lucky and they are all in good spots on my '97 Maxima. Thanks for the video!
Man, I so needed this! This is one part I dreaded replacing but you made it look so easy.
Thanks for this video. Many vehicles have alternators in places that make it almost impossible, yes these Accords make the job so much easier. My car just died and I thought it was the battery, I replaced it and after two days, it died again... well, that means only one thing... dead alternator, and with this video, I could do it in an hour. I had a hard time removing the old Denso and had to rewatch how you removed it. After turning it all angles, I realized the only way to remove it without taking the stuff off is exactly how you did... turn the alternator upside down with the pulley facing down to get it out from under the hoses, then turn it under the hoses and have the pulley facing the left side to pull it out from the engine bay. When you put in the new alternator make sure to PUT it in EXACTLY how you removed the old one. Thank you... Thank you!!!
Thanks for posting this. It gave me confidence to do it. A long 14 mm wrench would have made my life easier but breaker bar answered.
Thanks a ton! I have always done alternators on old v-belt cars before, and didn't know how to deal with the tensioner. This looks pretty straightforward, and I'm hoping to get 14+ volts again after swapping it out.
How'd ya do?
He’s still trying
I know it’s 4 years ago but today I watched this video and was able to get the job done on my brother’s in law 2006 Honda Accord. Thank you for this helpful video!!!
Thank you for the video. Alternator just went down needed this!
With my husbands extra muscle on the tensioner I was able to change this quickly and get my car back on the road for work. Thank you so much for this video. 👍
I’m sure glad I found this video ! I was about to pay someone $200 just to do this! Thank you for the up load!
I appreciate the trick on retaining the belt.
Mine got a little out of place, but I was able to reach in and set it straight and get home.
I had to pull mine out under the two hoses just as you did in this video.
You are my hero, there are ridiculous videos that disconnect the ac hoses, you are the best Tks
Many thanks for this. Just found out the reason a neighbour's '07 is always needing jump starts is a duff alternator diode - a whiff of hot electrics on jumping a cold engine was the clue. Garage quoted £400, a Lucas re-con alternator is £160, so it looks like I've got a job for the weekend.
Thank you, alternator went out at work. Picked up a new one at lunch, had it done 40mins after work (first time doing this)
Thank you so much, sir! Got left on the side of the road with a bad alternator and I just replaced it thanks with the help of this video 🙏🏽
I just replaced mine today. Thanks for the instructions and wrench/socket sizes. Saved me around $500 bucks if I took it into a shop.
This helped me when I needed it the most out in alaska, just in time for winter. Thanks boss!! Too easy
Just as easy as I thought. Just needed to know exactly where everything was at. Thanks man
Great video. Replaced my first alternator with your help in 30 minutes.
Thank you so much me and my wife changed it just today because of your video
Great video! Followed your steps and it came out just like you showed. Saved me a few hundred bucks at a shop! Thank you!
best diy alternator video for the accord/tsx yet. great work showing where all the bolts are as well as proving you can fit the alternator through the rubber tubes
gives me confidence this can literally be done in 15 less than minutes
Thank you! I knew it was one of the easier swaps on this motor and you made it look even easier. Doing mine tomorrow.
Quick and easy enough. Good video!
Thanks man. My arms are not quite as hairy, but you made it look not so scary. Most others are pulling a bunch of parts out to get to it, but it is good to know you can deal with just the belt and alt.
I’m glad this is simple gonna do it myself right now! Thanks for posting!
Was it as easy as it looks?
Thank you. Socket sizes were helpful. Yours came out a lot easier than mine lol. Like solving a Rubic’s cube getting it out.
Thank you so much, your guide was flawless.i was very hesitant to change the alternator myself cause of the belt tensioner.but i able to get the belt back on took a couple of tries.hardest part of the job is were to hang that bungie😂and putting back the belt.p.s if u have a second person putting on the belt will sooooo much easier, because they can hold the tensioner back while u concentrate on putting on the belt.thanks again
replaced my alternator. great video you saved me money thank you!! the long wrench is very important. I didn't have it so I had to get creative to extend the "wrench" for more torque.
Yay thanks so much I just replaced my own alternator great success!
Excellent video. Thank you very much. I was able to do the job and put all my tools away in 20 min
Slower people don't believe me.
I honestly think it took me the longest to wiggle it. I’m usually VERY slow when it comes to mechanics.
I just replaced the alternator in my 2005 Honda Accord. Thanks for the video & tips!
Thank you so much. I knocked mine out in 20 minutes thanks to your tip with the belt.
Thanks for the video! Tensioner is easily the hardest part of this job. My problem is finding the right tools, but I got it done in about two hours. I couldn't find a long handled 14mm wrench like you have in the video to move the tensioner, so I jammed together two wrenches (my 14mm with a second wrench) to get enough leverage to move that thing. I wasted way too much effort trying to get the belt back on when I didn't have the tensioner pushed back far enough, but after I figured out that I should start the wrench at a higher angle to give it more room to turn, it was easy.
Jason R what a thorough description of events 👏🏽
Jason R I'm having the same struggle thanks for sharing
Jason R how did you jam the wrenches together?
@@Ferraridude13 Probably wasn't the safest thing to do, but I only had a standard short-handled torque wrench, which wasn't long enough to get enough leverage to move the tensioner. I took an adjustable wrench and tightened it near the end of the handle to effectively turn it into a long-handled wrench. Want to be careful and make sure it's very tight. Better to use the right tool, which I now have a heavy duty long handled torque wrench (it's two or three feet long).
Jason R yeah I ended up doing the same thing, wasn't very tight but the overlap was enough that the pressure held it on there fine. Definitely will be buying the longer wrench set
First time doing something major on a car. This video really help. Save me probably hundreds of dollars. Thanks for the great video..
Great video! Made it very simple and easy to understand. About to change out my alternator today!
How did it go?

Thanks for this video, after watching this I had a good understanding of the process and was able to do mine with no problem.
Love you brotha really helped me change my 2005 accord alternator
Amazing 🤩 video, straight forward and simple.
brother, thank you for this video, I just got done changing my own, and it only took me about 30 minutes. 👏 🙌
Just replaced. Video was very helpful. The 10mm nut was over tightened so stripping was a problem until harbor freight bolt nut extractors with impact to the rescue. : )
im having that exact problem right now. i dont suppose you have a link for the tool do you?
Helped me replaced my alternator a lot mane! Great vid
Thank you so much. I just replaced my alternator using this video.
Thank you so much I just watched your video and changed my alternator in a parking lot

TY for making sure to mention the wrenches you use!
2:40 after 2020 this is what we all need 😩😂😂
😂😂😂
Thank you for tutorial. I purchased alternator because I got it tested and it was bad. On the way home car died and I was able to replace it road side and make it home.
Nice
Was .nt looking forward to this job fair play you made it look easy thanks
Thanks dude ten minutes
Thnks man I appreciate the breakdown. I hated that tension pulley though. It was really rusted
Yea mines fucked
Wow, you just made this look too easy. And I almost forked over $300+ to my local mechanic!
Me too! They’re out here scamming us 😂
Going on a 7,000 mile road trip tomorrow night. Alternator went out 2 days ago. Gonna purchase and replace tomorrow morning! Thank you for the tutorial
How’d it go if you don’t mind me

Great video thanks man.
10min to replace it awesome (though I’m sure I’ll need a bit more time than that). You make it look easy.
Thanks to you I am going to save a $435 dollar repair bill +tax and disposal fee at the Honda dealership service department. And they wanted to keep my car for the whole day even with an appointment.
bruhhh
Thanks you sir great video
Incredible video! 👏👏👏😎
My battery light came on on the way home today. I’m assuming it’s the alternator since the battery is only a few months old. I’m so glad I don’t have to jack the car up to do this.
Can you do mine?
Great job. Hope mine comes out that quick.
best video by far!
Thanks you. We'll done. I will follow what you just did.
Very god video thanks so much!!!
I dont have a dad. Thank you for the realistic walkthrough. Appreciate it.
Be your own dad. Welcome.
THANK YOU!!!! Great vid
so when i went to loosen the first bolt, i got the whole thing off. how do i get it back on? having trouble with that
I just changed my alternator today this is the exact same process for a 2008 to 2012 Honda Accord except it's easier because the alternator only has two bolts instead of three one on top one on bottom
Thank you so much 👌😊🤝👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏was a lot help to me
Thank the lord for money saving CZcams mechanics 🙌🏼
Thank you so much man

Mine won't start or hold charge
Mine just went out so I called the local Honda stealer ship.... they wanted 850$$$$$$$$
They have big bills to pay.
Rust Belt Auto That may be true but they ain’t paying them with my money.
Whew
OMG. Duuuuude. Whenever I check an a dealer's price is just to amuse myself. The only thing I ever bought from a car dealer is a $3 bolt
thanks for the video
