The UF home games are the only ones when Osceola dismounts Renegade. You can tell the crowd didn't realize that. But if that was not a home UF game that spear plant would have been perfect.
I'm in Oregon fan and my girls from Taiwan I'm getting her into college football She said FSU probably has the hardest intro in college football hands down. Feels like Oh my God I really like this one. We were watching the LSU FSU game yesterday and she was like Oh my god baby look FSU defense is strong. 😳
Next stop in 2026, Coach Deon Sanders as Florida State University's new head coach. WATCH!!!! He's made his mark that the lower levels (proved his worth), and then he can return home.
As a Gators fan I think Renegade and Osceola are a great Tradition but not the best and back in the day didn't Osceola stay on Renegade when he threw the spear into the ground? I personally like the tradition of Dixie Land Delight at Alabama. Dotting of the I is also way up there bu
Doesn't get any better than the warrior that was Osceola declares the field of battle. In the 90s it was more intense. There were no youtube videos of it...just kids from out of state intimidated by Osceola rearing Renegade and planting the spear, with the FSU team staring at them from the other side with their helmets held up. They had never seen this before. CFB used to be more fun.
that is freaking amazing awesome game, best Chant in college football and LOVE the planting of the spear. FSU all the way!!!!!!!!!! IN NORVELL WE TRUST
One of the most iconic traditions in all of college football. I don't have any problem with the Native Seminole symbology, but I am curious as to why I've never heard any opponents of "Cultural appropriation" complaining about a (symbolic) real life Seminole, sinking a spear into the image of a Seminole painted on the ground at midfield
It stems from the Seminole tribe tradition that spearing the ground atop a horse means a battle is starting, but spearing it on foot means a war is starting (if I remember correctly). We only did it for UF this year.
This only happens once every two years when FSU plays UF at home. The story goes that Seminole young males would play war games and when one side would plant the spear in front of an opponent from the horse it signified that a game of war would soon begin! So the tradition at FSU has Chief Osceola planting the spear from horseback! Once every 2 years when Florida comes to Doak, he dismounts from the horse and raises the flaming spear overhead to both sides before planting it! Long ago, this dismount followed by spear plant, signified REAL war was about to begin!
have to say, such a weak entrance for such a top, legendary program....i seem to remember back in the day didn't they used to throw the spear from the horse.... that was awesome....when/why did they change it....looks silly now.
@@Daniel-xg3ul thanks for the info...i still think it looks better from on renegade...can still hype the crowd more from renegade with a couple more circles, spear shakes & having renegade rear up once more
I wish they would quit calling us Noles, college is named after one of the owners of the school Seminoles. If we wanted to be called Noles they would of named of us Noles. But we are Semvnoles ✊️ But anyways u know the stabbing in the ground meant we are ready for war. Our original name is Red Stick Town aka war town. When we was part of the Mvskoke Indians there were 2 towns peace town "white stick town" and War town "Red Stick town" we wanted war with the Gov and creeks did not. That's how we split off to be Semvnole- a Spanish name for ghost/run aways. Only Southern tribe not to sign the peace treaty with the gov to this day we still not sign a treaty
Chief getting off Renegade for the gator game always gets me going
I'm not a fan of either team so I take it he does it only during this game
Yes
man electric atmosphere. recruits at the game had to love this as much as the fans.
Florida still has better recruiting class
