  • This Brinks 4-wheel combination padlock (Model 161-30051) has false gates in every second position on each wheel. It's quite a good quality lock in that it took me a while to get into it, but using the method that Potti314 showed us I was able to get into it with only a bit of difficulty.

    Yep, thanks. The girlfriend somehow reset the lock combination to our pool gate lock. With your video I was able to find the new combination, and then reset it back the original combination. Took me a little longer than you (watched two times), but I got it. Thank you.

    Thanks, i watched like 4 of these and you had the best explanation on this. I bought one of these for my work locker, not to keep things in but to indicate to work to not throw my clothes away while im at work lol. As soon as i got went to set it i dropped it on the floor and it changed the code

      Well done for decoding it - fantastic! Yea, dropping it can do that. Gosh you're work wants to throw your clothes away?? LOL Thank you for the nice feedback.

    Thank you so much, this worked on my lock !!!! Is it possible to change the combo on these?

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  Před 2 lety +1

      Well done! :D :D Yes you can change the combination by first unlocking it, then turning the shackle 180 degrees (so it's facing backwards) and it should be able to be pushed down into the slot ... if you keep it pushed down in the slot then you should be able to change the combination, and when it's at the new combination then lift the shackle up and turn it around and lock it. I would recommend you chance the combination by only one number at first, just to make sure it works, and if it does then change it to a completely new one.

      Your tip of finding the most loose gate instead of working on the wheel with the most tension was what really helped me

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  Před 3 lety

      @@kr00k3d100 LOL - ah nice yea they can be tricky ... different sorts of locks (different types & models) can give different feedback, so there's no one rule to open all of them, but rather we have a selections of things we look out for. Well done again!

      @kr00k3d100 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Swynndla So I've been playing with this lock now, and I believe it has a fatal flaw. It feels as though there are only 3 gates per wheel. Or at least 3 very notice-able gates. The correct number is always the middle of the 3. So if a combination is 1234, the gates would be 913 on the first number, 024 on the second, 135 on the third, and 246 on the fourth. So all you really have to do is feel each wheel into a gate, starting with 4. Once they're each in a gate, you just have to feel for which one is the middle of the three. I've been able to successfully crack this lock after scrambling the combination in under a minute.

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  Před 3 lety

      @@kr00k3d100 Well done figuring that out - yes there are a few locks like that, where the true gate is in the middle. If I come across a lock with 3 gates per wheel, it's usually the middle one that's the true gate. It sounds to me like you have the right mind to become good at opening all sorts of combination locks!

  • @bmanbob07

    This video did not help I've been trying to pick this lock for 20 minutes

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  Před 4 lety

      Don't feel too bad if you can't get it open - this is a difficult lock to open, and it requires advanced combination decoding techniques. 20 mins of trying isn't long ... it should take you a lot longer on your first attempt.
      Tip: Use lots of tension (as if you're trying to pull the shackle open) ... I'm using more tension than it might appear on the video (and I get sore fingers after a while).
      First step is to get all the wheels in gates, are you able to do that? Remember a gate a a position where the wheel doesn't want to move out of that number without releasing tension a bit. Some gates will have more "play" than others.
      Then you need to go through each wheel (starting at the one closest to the shackle) and find all the gates for each wheel (and you might need to release tension a bit to get out of a gate, turning it by a number, and then re-apply tension as you continue to the next gate). Go through all the gates for each wheel, leaving a wheel on the loosest gate for that wheel. Keep doing that until open.
      Good luck!
