As a person who’s also had this exact surgery this is not purely for cosmetic benefits! Before the surgery I literally could not eat, breathe, or talk properly and I could not get the surgery until I was 18 or older due to having to wait until my face structure was fully developed. I was also lucky to have it fully covered by my insurance.

@Joshua Sikorski you realize issues with the mouth and jaw can cause serious problems the longer they go untreated? i wouldn’t be surprised if she was in some level of pain before the surgery. this wasn’t a purely cosmetic procedure, this was for her health. who are you to judge what someone does with their body anyway? even if it WAS just cosmetic what gives you the right to call her basic just because YOU don’t like it? sure some people have more “unique jaws” than others, but you are absolutely dense if that’s what you think this is. she had a severe jaw deformity that needed correcting. worry about your own face before scrutinizing others.

It's a scary procedure but when it's done and you heal, you feel GREAT.
I remember when I had to get jaw recorrection surgery
I didn't have rhe same exact growth problem she did but my joints were lopsided and one side grew more than the other, causing my jaws to grow outward and sideways, giving my smiles a weird tilt
The orthodontist was the first to catch it when I was getting x-rays before braces.
He pointed it out and when I began having pain and pointed out that pain
That was when I was 14
I turned 18 and got the surgery
I'm 20 now and feel GREAT
it's so freeing to be able to eat, chew, and talk without pain.
Sometimes I still have aches but they are significantly smaller than they used to be
If you need surgeries like these, it is ABSOLUTELY worth the risks and worth the cost for the benefits.
It's scary. And VERY painful afterward but once you heal
    You feel so FREE
It's not just looking Great either, you feel great too. And she looks so happy

The comments here are setting me off.
First, the girl in the video had total join replacement of her TMJs which is not a cosmetic surgery. She had something called idiopathic condylar resorption which means her TMJs were deteriorated. She was on a liquid diet because she was unable to eat normally, and ICR causes your jawbone to restrict your airway as it is being pulled back. Along with pain.
Second, all of ya'll saying dumb shit like "she looked good before" or even just "wow I'm glad her confidence is back" just don't get it. There's no way ya'll have experienced jaw pain. I do, and I get a level 8 pain migraine at a least once a week, and a few less intense ones in the week too. I'm constantly worried about getting a pain flare-up that leaves me completely useless until it stops (and medicine doesn't always work either). I see her video and hope that her pain is gone now and that she doesn't have to worry about crunchy food or about smiling too much because it will make her jaw sore. The fact that she has a snatched jawline or whatever is just a bonus, and in the end she is getting restored what she already had, what the disease took away from her.

Most of the time these types of surgeries are only done if you have seriousl health impacts. Most jaw surgeries are purely functional like if you have sleep apnea, an improper bite and therefore it‘s damaging your jaw, tmj, if your overbite or underbite is so severe that you can‘t close your mouth or have difficulties with it etc.
Some of these issues can lead to other health complications as well like dizziness and in case of sleep apnea (which can be fixed or bettered by many jaw surgeries), they heighten your risks of strokes and heart attacks.
I‘m not saying that no one is having aesthetics in their mind but most docs really only do this because of the functional aspect. There‘s so much chronic and longterm pain that an under- or overbite can cause that can f*ck with your life.

My daughter had an underbite also but she has been having orthodontic correction since she was about 8-9 for the first phase (about a year long) and then again about 1.5 years ago the second phase begun and should end at about the 2 year mark. Insurance may pay since it is actually a medical issue and not just for beauty issues. I am happy for this young lady. Eating and chewing is its own special challenge with the changes happening.
