      @BenTheRules  Před 7 měsíci

      Ahhh that's interesting. When I was there I saw Raška a lot but wasn't sure exactly what it referred to. Does the term Raška include the Montenegrin side as well, or just Serbian?

    • @pileci-batak
      @pileci-batak Před 7 měsíci

      @@BenTheRulesIt is Raška indeed. But it's also Sandžak.
      With our Balkan reasoning, make sure to call it Sandžak while you're in non-Serb majority places (like most of Novi Pazar and the Sandzak region in general), and call it Raška around Serbs elsewhere.
      Edit: To answer you question as well. Raška you kept seeing was for the town called Raška which is unrelated to Sandžak.
      So there's a region that was called Raška, a town called Raška, and an administrative district called Raška.
      The region is pretty much similar to what we mean when we say Sandžak, but covers a slightly larger area. Still, that name is in general disliked among the Muslim Bosniak population, which is also true for Sandzak and Serbian population.
      The town and the district don't bring that much trouble, as everyone agrees about the naming. The district is kinda touchy topic, has a little to do with the original region, but as districts are insignificant in Serbia, there isn't much dispute about it.
      Enjoy your stay in Novi Pazar. It has its shortcomings, but I hope you'll like it there overall 😁

      @@BenTheRulesto clarify about the name sandzak, it actually comes from the sandzak of novi pazar. sandzaks were regions given by the sultan to his subordinates. the people unfortunatly just call it sandzak bc lack of knowledge and mostly the bosniaks just want their own name for raska, so just not to use the serbian name, but the turkish one. both names sandzak and raska cover the whole region between serbia and montenegro, but some just use it for the serbian part, again bc lack of historical knowledge.

    • @bnast6849
      @bnast6849 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@BenTheRulesOfficially that region is called "Raška Oblast" after the regional administrative center, the city of Raška. Sandjak is a Turkish word for region and there were at least 300 sandjaks in Ottoman Turkey, why people still call this particular region sandjak, it's beyond me...

    • @noonelikeme81
      @noonelikeme81 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Raska is the region and it used to be state before turks occupied the area. The new born nation of Bosniaks still call it sandzak which means Oblast (region) in Turkish only to defy anything Serbian, despite they are slavs and not turks and still speak Serbian language.
      It's a psychological disorder.

    12:00 In my experience, the border guards are usually Serbs in the Serbian side, Albanians mixed with Serbs in the Kosovo side, However, its hard to tell sometimes because many of the Serb border guards in the Kosovo side speak fluent Albanian without a doubt it could be any of the two. Also, MANY I say many Albanians go through Kosovo to Serbia espcially holiday seasons like summer, winter ect. due to the fact that many Albanians from the diaspora drive back to Kosovo and usually enter Serbia first and then in Kosovo they drive back through Serbia. In the summer the Merdare border, gets packed both ways with queues that go for a few KM.

    • @pileci-batak
      @pileci-batak Před 7 měsíci +17

      That's not correct. However much we in the Balkans would love to change history, Albanians haven't even changed their Slavic toponyms in Albania which are numerous in central and southern parts of the country.
      Calling Peć Peja doesn't mean changing the name in order to prove that it belongs to Albanians. It's simply to make it conform to the dialectal pronunciation rules of the people who live there.
      That's how you get Niš and not Naissus, or Srem instead of Sirmium. An example similar to Peć would be the name of the city of Peqin (Pećin), Albania, where the name retained its ć sound due to it not being the last sound in the word.

      Do we use word Dardania (sure,not to prove it's not Serbian😂) to conform instead of Kosovo?
      Why didn't they use Peja and Dardanija before? How did that become problem for language conforming just recently?
      Is it better to conform it straight with a word- Albania?
      I guess digging out bones from Serbian cemeteries and blowing up, burning almost a millennium old churches, destruction of monuments and spinning historical past and even claiming Serbian history as own, killing, kidnapping and taking organs of people for black market... Is also just some sort of conforming?
      It is "ПЕЋ" and we are conform with that in this country. Don't try to sell us natural language changes that come with time...this is whole something different than what you explained. Sorry you had to go through the detour, but you summed it up fairly in the end, this is the old world, unlike americas, people are living and fighting here for thousands of years.
    Check the list of wars that Serbs have been through for the last 200 years, and compare what Serbia brought to Yugoslavia, and what was it left with in the end.
    Then compare the US role in formation of Yugoslavia, with its role in Yugoslav breakup.
    You shouldn't really be bitter about it, Kosmet is the intersection of the Serb history, it's not something you just give up, no matter the odds.

Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and Sarajevo the capital of Bosnia Hercegovina. People fought hard to have the freedom to not be under the yoke of Yugoslav oppression so please respect the true nomenclature of each country. Please understand that the
    term Yugoslav and Yugoslavia is an insult and refrain from using it.

      Thanks for your response.
      However even former Yugoslav capitals is an insult to the hard earned freedoms that the people of these countries fought hard and lost their lives, in order to live under their own rule.
      It it is also an insult to the people and families who escaped the oppressive Yugoslav regime.
      Serbia was the only country that wanted the term Yugoslavia they invaded Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina inorder to fight the war in Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina under the Yugoslav name and star and Flag and Yugoslav tanks.
      You are giving Serbia the courtesy to call it by its proper nomenclature, kindly give the other countries the same respect and call them by their individual names. A reminder your origins are Croatian.
      By the way your program has some interesting points but spending more time showing each country would make it even better.

No one cares if you call these states or capitals 'former Yugoslavian' or 'ex-yu' since it's a factual statement and not an opinion. Only Balkaners that were born and raised in the West care about such nonsense since they act more patriotic than the actual people living in the Balkans and that stems from an inferiority complex they have because they ran away from their home like little girls when times got tough so now they are overcompensating their nationalism to hide the fact they betrayed their people.
