Photogrammetry's Best, Least Used Tool (part one)

  • Scale bars really are one of the easiest to use tools that I am yet to see discussed regularly.
This video is stacked with technical talk, so be warned.
Part two, where we will go into building scale bars, calibration and adapting your workflows around them, will be coming soon.
Note I do not go into circular targets or metashape. this is because I do not have a license for metashape.

Hey man glad you're able to make videos again. The void video stepped up my photogrammetry game to the next level and motivated me to get the Godox ring flash and design and 3d print a polarizing filter for it like yours. I just got a drone for aerial photogrammetry and quickly realized I need to start using markers. This is probably the best concise explanation of what they are and how to use them. Looking forward to part two!

Really excellent video and explanation. Really looking forward to seeing more detail on the capture time use and how you place them in different scenarios, do they remain in all captures? What if they move with respect to the object etc.

Dude.. This is really fascinating stuff! At first i was like... huuuuuuh?! I mean it makes sense what you're saying but I'm just trying to pile this info on to all the other things I need to know and do to improve..and as simple as these apriltags seem to be when I first saw being used... I had no idea how much information such an apparently simple little thing could contain! I hope you come out with your part 2 and as many other parts you care to produce sharing you knowledge and expertise.
How can we go about creating these tags?
Also.. I do hope the personal struggles that got in way of your creation have subsided and everything is well again! If not.. I'd encourage you to still try to create if it's something you really love. I think all if not most creators can relate on some level.. we just need to lift each other up and show our support!
    :)

I don't understand this. Why isn't there just a marker that the software knows, which scale this marker have and that's always like that, so it simply scales your scene units by that marker and nothing else? When the marker is captured and in preknown by the software, why do i have to tell it what it is?
