A peek into the life of a super mom - Nagalakshmi, mother of Pragg and Vaishali

  • Praggnanandhaa recently scored his 2nd GM norm at Heraklion in Greece. The boy became world's youngest IM. He surpassed the rating of 2500 before he turned 12 and now he already has two GM norms in the bag. If there is one person who has stood by him through thick and thin is his mother Nagalakshmi.
    Nagalakshmi travels with Pragg and Vaishali to all the tournaments around the world. She cooks food for them and prays for them during their rounds. She is by all means a super mom and ChessBase India's Amruta Mokal decided to interview her to let the chess community know more about her!

    Pragg mom is an inspiration to any chess parent. With her affable nature, infinite trust on her kids and the ability to pray constantly, her focus on keeping things simple makes her a mom worthy of emulating...Pragg has become a GM this week and as he takes on further challenges he can go fight on the board peacefully because his dad and mom are fighting out all his off board challenges gracefully. Sure shot Super GM - Congrats!

      @@arun-it9gr I guess so. You gave me a good idea -- they should always interview people in languages they are not fluent in. Interview Americans in Hindi, for example. Their halting Hindi would be good for communication.

    • @arun-it9gr
      @arun-it9gr Před 3 lety +2

      @@knv9090 the questions were mostly about home life, family, how she feels about achievement etc., Not heavy on factual.
      If she is speaking English fluently, then fine. Else let her express as best as she can. I feel that these interviews are a gesture of recognition and appreciation. Later on, she will tap her forehead and say "if only I could have spoken better" and her kids will console her or attempt to teach her English. Either way she will just feel happy.
      Translation will give you a good smooth back and forth, but not the same effect.
      I wish she had spoken in Tamil, and if you didn't know the language too, you would sure have enjoyed it and would have lost nothing in non translation.

      @@knv9090 I don't think the interviewer insisted on English. Mother probably chose because the interviewer didn't know Tamil. I somewhat agree that it is a bad habit with Tamils to have English as a backup for every situation.
      She is hardly out of the loop. She is the literally the focus of the interview!
      And no I am not patronising, I just said that a translation wasn't necessary here. She's mother of two GM s and I don't know how you would patronise such a person without looking like a clown.
