- In this video, we take a look at the Sunfounder 10.1 IPS screen / Case for the Raspberry Pi 4.
This thing is nice but in my opinion, it overpriced from what it is but it does work on 5 volts so you can set this up as a fully portable Raspberry [I 4 with a 10.1” screen! Just ass a Battery bank and a Bluetooth keyboard/Trackpad and you can set up a nice little portable all-in-one Raspberry Pi 4 PC.
The price is up to $129! Wait for it to come back down

Some warehouse in Guangzhou, from 1988 - plastic picture frames? That is the bezel, let's use that!
Great review! I’ve been looking for a screen like this to use for a portable setup I have. Agree that the price is higher than I expected. For $100+ I would expect a touch screen or some other features beyond a camera and hiding place for the SBC.
A fully portable setup for Rpi-4 looks stunning!
Great device. I like it and instantly ordered one.
2:10 You better mount all the heatsinks with the fins oriented vertically when the raspi is mounted in the case, so heat will be dissipated with the help of convection. (hot air moves upward) This will increase the efficiency of your heatsinks significantly.
Thanks for the information!
Another great video!
If this stuff existed 25 years ago the world would have lost its mind
It didn't ... But the world lost its mind anyhow :-) Who knew.

You probably dont give a shit but if you are stoned like me atm then you can stream all the new movies on InstaFlixxer. Been watching with my gf recently =)
I got the monitor from the last video and Im loving it so far.
I hope someone makes a compute module 4 version.
I heard it's hard to get one currently, so hopefully once that changes maybe we'll get more io on the market. A touchscreen cm4 would be awesome.
This is much better than the last screen you showed us. Think it' very cool.
Love your videos! You should do a raspberry pi laptop build.
Would like to see you do a video on casting retropie (from Pi 3B+ or Pi 4) to a chrome cast or firestick connected to awesome TV if it is even possible. BTW, your videos are awesomely entertaining. Keep up the great work!
I've never heard someone say "explain a tory" before and I've been watching you for a long time :P
SunFounder needs to make this exact case backside for their 10.1" 1280x800 Touchscreen. I nearly bought one on Amazon before realizing that they are selling the touch version for around the same price as the non-touch but with an open rear panel.
thanks for another video!
I just received my sunfounder 10.1 and I have only had it running for a n hour. I took your suggestion and ordered screen/case, battery and folding bluetooth keyboard. Battery is still charging and have not received keyboard.
The screen is nice and the speakers are surprisingly decent. I will let you know more on my thoughts of this setup as I go on.
Directly plugged out the power without shutting down the raspberry pi 🤣
I know, I physically cringed. That poor SD card!
Glad I wasn't the only one who cringed at that..
This remind me of one time I was in mobile phone shop to try a phone. When the seller going to put a simcard he pulled out the battery while the screen is still on. Like few years ago
@KPT2 TV But...but what’s the reward...?
@KPT2 TV You also only die once. I almost died when he murdered that RPi 🤣
Thank you so much for this video
This looks like a nice option for a standalone RPi weather station. Just one cable and no real need for a touchscreen.
😆🤣😂 your video description" "Just ass a battery bank..." Your spell check is as bad as mine, dude!
Reminds me the Kevin Hart video ... Kiestering? Don't use a battery after its been up there :-)
I got myself a Ilyama 21.5" touchscreen for the Pi. I ported Ctrlr to Pi3/4 and will use it as a touchscreen controller for Midi devices. For sure I don't want a laptop for that. Embedd the Pi inside a midi controller keyboard and control DAW/Midi.
I like this. I have an older Sunfounder 10.1 inch unit that was originally intended for a Pi 3. It doesn't have as nice a cover over the back of the Pi, it's just sort of hanging out there. A Pi 4 fit onto it fine, but I did have to use adapters for the power and HDMI, which leave some ugly wiring hanging from the back. I'm booting from an SSD, right now, the SSD and powered USB hub are sitting on the table next to it. I just designed and am 3D printing a new base for the unit that will hold the hub, the SSD, and a power supply (using a Chinese buck convertor) for the pi and USB hub. The cabling will look a lot nicer then. I hope.
Recently, I purchased a 7 inch high quality touchscreen monitor for $40 USD and I have been using it without any issue.
Thanks for this video 👍🏻👌🏻✌🏻
What controller is that? Great video as always, I may get a screen myself soon.
If that was a touch screen it could be used for a number of projects
ikr, the price dosnt fit the features it has :/ a shame
I want something like this but with touchscreen pls make video on it
I ordered my fourth Raspberry Pi to use with a Grove hat. I have lots of Grove components to use with it. I don't like swapping out hats so I just buy a new Raspberry Pi every time I find a new use for one.
5:10 i love The color is like: cable.
Wish I could find a keyboard like that with USB-C, instead of micro.
I would be skeptical of the USB C adapter, since it says 18-20v and no 5V. That will burn up a 7805 in a hurry, assuming that's what they are using.
Would definitely love to hear more about they keyboard as I was looking at one this weekend to pair with a LarkBox.
Awesome!
Good idea but it’s expensive , thanks for this video
Looks pretty sweet! I'd love to see a cost and emulation comparison between this and a laptop.
For most uses, a used laptop running Linux would be almost (or as) cheap and more practical. But that doesn't address the fun in setting something like this up and using it. I have an older model of this Sunfounder unit and have a pi 4 (mine originally came with a pi 3, I had to modify it to take a pi4) booting from an SSD. Other than playing with it, I use it for a NAS and to run an inside-the-house use only web server. It's worth it for that.
The usb c pd cable you showed puts out 20-v, but they come in 9, 12 and 15v as well (i guess you'll get 5v from a non pd output, but in for a surprise if used with pd)
Available here in France so I might jump on this, unless something similar comes along soon for a similar price
Very Nice... For us un south américa a little spensive but very Nice óptimo thanks for sharing
Relaxing video😌😌😌
Do you recommend over clocking the pi with this set up, what’s a good amount to overclock it too?
So you're plugging 5v into the 12v monitor and it feeds both units fine!?
Iv'e got the the RPi3 version of that screen that Iv'e used for my sons desktop arcade build so I'll have to try that and see if I can make the arcade portable!
do you have a reference for making your own power supply for raspberry pi 4 and 10 inch lcd touchscreen?
Now let's wait until somebody makes something like this but for the Compute Module 4...
Just one or 2 usb and hdmi with kickstand like on for example surface device and I'll buy it in heartbeat
your peripherals are way cooler than I have :(
Someone has got to have written a studio grade recording program for these things by now haven't they? If s, reply. I'd be interested in seeing what the final output file would sound like.
I'm just starting to learn more about the capabilities of these gadgets just recently, but I seem to recall something along this lines of these things way back when Linux Red Hat was new.
This could not have come at a better time as it meets what I am looking for 100%. Touch screen would beicing on the cake BUT 8TWILL WORK.
That's pretty cool. Anyway to mod that to put a battery in it?
If there's a newer or updated monitor model with usb c and the mele pcgo 02 or gmk mini PC that would be great..
Lol, I have that 20k power bank from Walmart, not bad, been using it all summer. I got it before their USB C version came out. Planning to tear it down and replace the cells when it starts to go bad. Never saw that skin tho, only the black version. Never mind you have the USB C version, I have the dual USB A one.
This is pretty sweet with a usb RTL-SDR!
This is awesome. I wish it was touchscreen tho
"Just ass a Battery bank" ETA Prime . I had to read it 2x lol
to make sure you got both cheeks?
butt it can be used ass a battery, that's one powerful gluteus maximus
Neat kit, except for the screen price. Thanks for the video.
Would a DSI connection have been better? I'm sure they are just using a cheap HDMI switcher chip, but DSI might have made this possible for previous RPi versions too, just change to a simple pin header for Pi power.
I came here to learn and I totally am grateful. However I have to say I would totally wash you in MVC2 XD
Is there an OSD menu that will allow for stretching the image to a custom aspect ratio?? Like horizontal and vertical size adjust??
I recommend recommending Anker brand battery banks off Amazon. Almost as inexpensive, but excellent USA based customer service & no-questions warranty support.
I'm gonna need an instructional ETA vid on how to "ass a Battery bank"
Buy an aukey mine is a total ass.
7th comment and i just want to say i love your videos !!!
comfy build
That bezel on the display looks like something out of 2005.
Yes but we're going for portable functionality here, not apple fancy design (and closed proprietary insecure crap); at $70 I'd buy it without hesitating for my Pi4, at $100 not sure
Cool Display. Don't like the fact that u cant access the sd card after mounting the RPi. It would be cool if they could include a sd card extender.
Hello pi coder :D
Boot from USB instead. :-)
@@System64-Fumo hi 👋
@@brucebarrett1273 True but sometimes u cant use usb for example if you are using berryboot u need a sd card
Will A500 Mini work with it fine? How about a Blu-Ray player? And can you make the screen really dim so that it
s comfortable to play games in a dark room? I have light sensitivity so that
s super important to me. Im thinking of buying this.
Are you going to check on asrock ibox-v2000 based on Ryzen embedded 2000?
I was looking at their 13.3 inch display as a portable screen since I want one that doesn't house the pi... But even those are like $110-130.
If you really need to use a RPi (let’s say for the GPIO expansion), just configure one as an access point with VNC and get a cheap tablet to connect to it.
MR. ETA Prime, do you know any Touch screen that is also housing the Pi 4 and some kind of HD, SSD, or M.4 ..? If so, please do a review. I am thinking of an application that can make use of the touch screen and Pi together. Thx.
@etaprime the cable seems to be a USB type A in the video but the one in the link is a type c. I bought the battery and the screen flickers and eventually reboots the rpi. I'm guessing it's the cable. Do you have a link to the cable in the video?
I think there was screen tearing on Dreamcast emulation....
An idea for anyone wanting to make a vid u can make a portable arcade box with led buttons
Cool!
Can I flip the screen so that the connections are on the other side of the unit? Can i flush mount the 10", or 7"
Can you switch the inputs from the pi to some other external source?
can't help but think I'd rather take my laptop though, a hybrid of sorts Toshiba Portege Z20-t. Still to make a RPi this functional and portable...that's a win
Can you take a look at the xiaomi redmi 9 and see if the Helio g80 is good for emulation pls
This looks a great option for cheap tablet PC if it's got touchscreen
Check out their RasPad V3.0 if you want a touchscreen.
@@Qwkmm I wouldn’t recommend the RasPad based on the reviews that I’ve read.
Can you do an official raspberry pi screen with omni android and the touchscreen?
It is $120 right now, but man would i love to have one!
It was sitting at $99, hopefully they realize they can move these for around $70
Agreed, would love to have this! 70 sounds like the sweet spot for pricing.
@@ETAPRIME and I live in India, so it's $165 here before shipping
@@developerpranav Wow. That is expensive for a raspi monitor.
@@brandonstevens6886 even the 4GB raspi 4 is $85
If you managed to get that foldable 'jelly comb' keyboard running with blouetooth connection under raspberry os, please tell me how.
How would you mount a m.2 ssd or nvme drive with this and would it draw too much power running the screen and a nvme or ssd?
omg i want so much a RBpi 4 so much, but this is venezuela jajaja great video
A typo gets more comments than anything... Am I in Jr High again? Couldn't help but notice that like many items once your video hit the price went up to 119. I guess the makers couldn't understand the language that said " It's Overpriced!"
Thanks for your vids ETA
Would be nice if that fat display had an internal stowage compartment for the power bank and the tiny keyboard.
Make it touch screen for the same price and it would be perfect for a self contained smart home system.
Not a bad battery bank and Im a big fan of off branded stuff like this. However Anker stuff on Amazon routinely goes on sale for the same or only a couple bucks more, I just picked up a Anker 20000 Mah bank for 40 bucks.
Yes, I’ve had great luck with Anker, and for the capacity that’s a great price.
How do i install emulators on the rasberry pi os without switching to retropie? Wanted to be productive once im done playing
Waiting for my RasPad3 (4) to Ship...
I'm a bit confused by how the power works: The power bank supplies 5v/3A but the screen requires 12V/2A. Factoring in the Pi, and peripherals, we're now requesting >30W from a 15W/15.3W power supply. Especially if you want to add speakers, GPIO peripherals, USB-A devices, external drives, etc., and factoring in efficiency converting 12V to 5V e.g. 96% (first I found on Amazon), can someone explain how the official power supply or a phone power bank is able to keep it running?
what bluetooth game control can choose from? can provide link?
Can you ckeck out the Eviciv UPi06 touchscreen case on Aliexpress?
Is that a usb pd Powerbank? Else I can't really believe how this 12v unit works with 5v, except there might be a boost converter already built in 🤔
I just got one today. Mine doesn't work on 5V :-( Nor does the sound output work :-((
I have the 10.1" touch screen kit from EVICIV (Or however TF you spell it lol) and They don't have a ribbon cable for easy installation. They have a USB to video board connector to enable touch capabilities if you don't want to solder the other included wire. But unfortunately their instructions are vague on where to solder to, and finding anything online has been unsuccessful. I just want my 10 inch dual boot Raspberry Pi tablet lol. I go between Raspberry OS & Kali Linux with Retropie on a boot able USB. Any help on if and what drivers I may need and for that matter, does kali linux even support touch screen capabilities up to 10 inch monitors? Much love and respect from Southern Indiana brother.
Looks good but would love a 15 inch screen...My eye are old
Can you still hook it up to a tv with hdmi?
When i click the link it goes to the uk site and only 7 inch not 10inch monitor. Maybe the 10 inch is not in the uk amazon.
Can you use it with a tablet grip controller?
Nice
It sure would be a pain in the ass to test/run different distro.
Hmm great but no built in rechargeable battery unfortunately
Thanks.
Does it run a 3B+ ?
Will it work with 3b+ after some modding?
Could you possibly give the physical dimensions of the display?
I live in a small house built in 1897 and I can't really have a typical dual screen setup in the 7ftx5ft "office" (unless I sacrifice the window AC unit) but I do have a small area under my monitor, about 7.5inches tall that could be used for a small display like this.
A real good idea, too bad prices are far away from reality, ( it's tripled some places😆)
I have just the sunfounder 10.1 Display without a case. I cant find a fitting case empty. Someone knows about a place to get it?
