    Excellent tutorial. I use a fine point, black Sharpie to sign my work, or I use a Rigor. I've also used use pencil (that's what I was first taught to use. I try to be careful to use a color that doesn't stand out too much and distract from the painting, using a selected color that is in the painting. I do also sign the back with my full name and the date. I never put the date on the front. I was interested to hear you use masking on some of the curvy hairs......that's very useful information, as well as negative painting. Thank you, Rachel, for sharing your talent.

      I did a tutorial on it a few years ago but it was when I was learning to paint so it's not my best tutorial to be honest but it does show most of the footage of me painting 3 paintings, each of a golden. I need to do an updated new tutorial but I don't have time in my schedule right now. Email me at rachel6parker@gmail.com and I'll send you links if you want to see them.

    This turned out beautifully Rachel! Thank you so much for posting and sharing all you have learned. As for signing my paintings, I use a pencil and do a light wash over it to seal it in. I was told this was a traditional way to sign a watercolor... but that may be up for debate. I like it because I can erase and redo if needed. Thanks again!

    FYI I use a gel pen to sign my initials and the year. But I think using paint and a rigger probably would be more “artistic” but I have more control over a pen. May play with this idea.

    Can you tell us or show us a it more about masking please and when you use it. Today I have heard it twice and the only masking I know of is marking fluid. Thanks for your help

    • @rachelparkervarner
      @rachelparkervarner  Před 4 lety

      I'll answer your question here too to make sure you see the answer, since you asked on two videos... Thank you so much for the question as that helps me know what I need to explain more in my upcoming videos! It's masking fluid, which you paint on at the beginning of the painting, let it dry, and then it saves your whites. Near the end of the painting process, you scrub it off to reveal saved whites.

    • @rachelparkervarner
      @rachelparkervarner  Před 3 lety

      For areas like that I like to paint with watered down black, then as it is half dry paint into it with a slightly wet brush to get it softer looking. You can also spray a little with clear water

    • @rachelparkervarner
      @rachelparkervarner  Před 4 lety +1

      I'm usually painting on wet paper - sometimes just a little damp, sometimes very wet, depending on how hard I want my edges. But thank you for the reminder to mention how wet my paper is through each stage.
