Who are some of your favourite musicians and/or composers?
Roine freaking Stolt. My alltime #1
Jean Michel Jarre
Björk
😊
Jeff Wayne, of course, plus Mike Oldfield, Howard Jones and the members of Tangerine Dream.
Mike Oldfield, Steve Hillage
@@Czyszy Thanks ever so much for sharing!
It was way ahead of it’s time and a wonderful palette of sounds, music and lyrics. Certainly a soundtrack to my youth in the late 70’s, too.
That's wonderful to hear! Thanks for sharing
Jeff Wayne is a legend, the creator of one of the greatest compositions and recordings of all time.
I heard a prolonged radio interview with him the week The War of the Worlds was first released in 1978. He was fascinating then and he is now.
How lovely to see him and hear him speak today.
Thanks Warren.
Thanks Paul! I agree, one the greatest compositions ever!
I was 11 when my father gave me this album. In 40 years I have met 1 person that knew the music when they heard blasting out of my car. None of my friends or people I worked with ever knew there was a musical. I've even had people argue with me about it. This was music that was in twined with some of the best memories of my life. I have shared this music with hundreds of people. Mr. Wayne, you are probably the only entertainer in the world today that I would get all goofy about meeting because of what this album means to me. So form the kid in BFE Oregon thank you!
Getting to speak to him is like a miracle.
It was a dream come true
When I was a teen I went to sleep listening to one of two albums. Equinox by Jean Michel Jarre and Jeff Wayne's War Of The World's. Both are simply perfection! 😎
Yes! Very well said
I remember my dad had TWOTW on double casette and was a huge fan of Moody Blues and had Night's of White Satin on vinyl when I quiet young. I would listen non stop to this when I was in my teens only up to the end of Thunderchild. I had completely forgotten about TWOTW and lost my dad 11 years ago to cancer, call it divine intervention but I listened to the complete album and knew the moment I heard "Forever Autumn" was Justin Hayward and made me cry remembering my dad. Finally listening to album was nothing short of an amazing album and the time Jeff took to produce it, not for the money but for his passion of composing and writing music. Thank you Jeff and Thank you Warren for taking the time to do this interview
My all time favourite LP and one of the first I ever bought in 1980. My brother hated me for playing it, as he was a bit younger and it terrified him. A wonderful interview, which captures some of the many incredible stories associated with the production. Jeff was so eloquent, interesting and humble when documenting the background to this wonderful version of HG Wells masterful work. The interviewer has a lovely pace, seemed well researched, and like me and real fan who was so influenced by the album visually and audibly that their knowledge helped Jeff to beautifully elaborate in great detail about the magic, great fortune, risks taken and mishaps experienced in the making of the most culturally significant albums of the 20th century
I grew up listening to this album, this was the soundtrack to the trip down to the coast for us in Australia. I still hum the bassline to The Eve of War all the time. I've started showing it to my step son who is 4 years old and he is OBSESSED with it already. I have nothing but warm memories of this album, and it mentions my city at the end of the album, Canberra!
Thanks ever so much for sharing! I really appreciate it
Named my son Nathaniel after the parson in ‘The Spirit of Man’. Loved this album since I heard it as a kid in 81. Wasn’t the kind of thing you’d normally hear in south Texas at the time but a radio station played it in full on Halloween. It was the catalyst for my interest in music and all things WOTW related.
That’s amazing! Thanks ever so much for sharing
Jeff is an amazing man. Gifted ,modest, and so inspiring. An enlightening and very cool interview, facinating and educational in equal measure. Thank you.
Agreed 100% to all of that!
I bought the double album in 1979 and the dust-free virgin spin on my Pioneer turntable dubbed it to my Akai 10" reel to reel for a no-interuption performance of this Sci Fi Opera. For the past 40 years, until today, June 2023, I thought that I was the only fan of Jeff Wayne's masterpiece. Thanks to Produce Like A Pro, I discovered my error.
I first Heard Jeff Wayne’s musical version of the War of the Worlds when I was 9. And I loved it Ever since.
I grew up with the double vinyl album as a kid. It’s still incredible to this day
That's wonderful to hear!
Such an amazing Album!
This was really interesting!
I have always loved this album ...now I also love the man behind it.
I really like how appreciative he was of everybody else involved in this masterpiece.
Thanks for this episode...it was brilliant :)
Thanks ever so much for sharing! I really appreciate it
This is one of a few albums that when I start listening to it I need to listen to the whole thing. One of the best albums ever. Great stories in this videos. Lovely to learn about his father.
Thanks ever so much! Glad you enjoyed the interview
Forever Aurumn is indescribably beautiful masterpiece. Thanks so much for making this happen. Warren it is one of the most influential albums of my life, technically brilliant, great artists, great arrangements. Great production . great art Bravo 🙏
Thanks ever so much Catherine! I agree 100%! A masterpiece!
The song was re-released for several of the Moody's greatest hits albums. Justin still performs the song at concerts
It truly is a great song that works both ways, either in the album or simply by itself. Beautiful lyrics and musical composition. A masterpiece within a masterpiece!
@@robanderson473 Justin Haywood was already an established and incredible talent. Music by the Moodies that is 40 and 50 years old ( OMG I'm turning into a Fossil) is still being played today.😁
@@williammitchell4417 Indeed he was/is, I've loved the Moodies since I was a lad and I too, feel the wee creaks and aches of fossilization and I'm only fifty-four!
Hee! I can't help but think of that song called, "Let Me In" when Jeff is talking about the "Whee ooo" parts. I know it's not the same but thinking of the Martians on the Let Me In, whee oo song, just cheers me up too. 😂 "I hear music. Let me in. oo! I heard it it just then. Let me in. Whee oo... I thought you were my friend." Whee oo oo whee oo. Whee oo. Oo whee oo whee oo. 👽 Can't believe I'm mixing such different things together in my mind at the same time. Loving both.
Thanks ever so much for sharing that Audrey! Great song
Wonderful video with such a genuine person, love Jeff!
Thanks ever so much!
Khachaturian was Armenian, and Spartacus (the Oneidin line theme) was written only 20 years earlier (the ballet premiered in 1956). Stunning work, as was Jeff's. Aren't we lucky to have such things to listen to.
Yes, masterpieces!
@@Producelikeapro thanks also for making this brilliant video! Fascinating to hear from Jeff, and to learn about so many of the other aspects of the production and events leading to the work, and to get those little technical gems about how various sounds were made and the recording process managed. I can't imagine how tricky it was getting 2 24 tracks to align. We have it so easy now, but I feel often part of the performance is missed on digital now, especially when performing to a click.
What an incredible talent! Hugely important album!
Yes! HUGE talent!
This and the War of the Worlds video are such a rich deep-dive into this album and era .. I grew up in upstate NY but lived in Winchester England from 1978-80 (age 7-9) .. I'll never forget the day my corduroy and flannel wearing teacher put on the vinyl of War Of The Worlds and blew our young minds
Thanks ever so much Paul!
Glad to hear that you had the same experience that I did as a kid!
@@Producelikeapro indeed! Hearing you describe your experience inspired me to comment .. love your videos
ps. I'm good friends with Steve Lillywhite and would love to see you chat with him
@@paulhiggins1485 we have done one interview with him! Has to be edited and would love to do another one!
@@Producelikeapro oh cool .. looking forward to it .. have Steve edit it 😅
I own thousands of albums, and this one will always be in my personal Top Ten. Everything about this masterpiece is perfect - the songs, the production and the performances. You couldn‘t just make it better. The same goes for the concert DVD and Blu ray discs (both versions). A true classic.
Dickens' "books weren't just fly by night fun books about poverty"
Classic!
Haha YES! Thanks ever so much
This is so great! Definitely a most wanted person to have dinner with❣️ I would never have realized it without getting to hear him here. Thank you Jeff and Warren! 😊
Thanks ever so much Audrey
My Kids were brought up on The War of The Worlds so it lives on and on !
Best interview yet for me! I'm 47 now, but just before his Sparticus album came out, I wrote to him asking to be the guitarist if he ever toured WoftW. It moved me so much....I never got a reply :)
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
It was such a brilliant composition. So much depth and WHAT A SOUND!
Marvellous! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Warren, Jeff is fantastic, such legendary fabulous album.
Thanks ever so much!
I first heard TWOTW at my uncles house, must have been around 1981 when I was six. He had speakers rigged throughout the house (incredible at the time) and for some reason I was left alone indoors with side one of the album playing. I couldn’t escape it. It absolutely terrified me, I’m not kidding - verging on childhood trauma. I must have had two years of sleepless nights off the back of it. Even now, the ooh la’s raise my pulse a little. It’s a powerful, brilliant album that still fascinates.
Many years later in my teens I got to visit the studio where it was recorded and see some of the analog synths Jeff used.
Thanks for this interview - it’s helped my healing process 😂
When the gentlemen were talking about Justin, and this is from my recordings I have, Justin mainly played for and wrote with the Moodies. He has released recordings that feature either his own writing or with John Lodge, Ray Thomas, or Graeme Edge.
Thanks ever so much for sharing William!
Has to be one of the best interviews and subject you have covered.
Thanks ever so much Sam
Can you do an episode about Ben Liebrand? If you dig deeper into DJ's, disco, dance music and (re-)mixes, you'll find no bigger name than his.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
What a courteous and humble gentleman. I thoroughly enjoyed that interview, wonderful. Thanks very much
Agreed 100% Joey! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I'm 24 I love jeff wayne 's War of the worlds album I've seen it Live in Cardiff back in 2012 - 2014. Tour.
Thanks ever so much
Such a modest, humble smile when you called him a rockstar.... (2.17,45) I didn't know anything about this man, but this interview was VERY interesting! Jeff is a gifted, wonderful man. You yourself obviously love your job, you know what you're talking about and just LOVE music. Thank you so much Warren! you got another fan!
Thanks ever so much for your kind words! I feel blessed to be able to talk to such a talented man about his wonderful work
War Of The Worlds must be in the Top 5 of greatest albums ever, it was a must have when I was a teenager. I remember you couldn't fit the whole album on a C90 cassette tape, so you missed the Epilogue. A good reason to go and buy the album. Thanks for a wonderful interview.
That is a wonderful album. I listened to it hundreds of times. Great production! Thanks Warren!
Thanks ever so much Joe
What a beautiful interview, one of the best on PLAP. Cheers.
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
Bought this when it was first released. Interesting to learn about the history and process. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks Karl!
I love that you're getting more out of Wayne than he put out himself. I bought the seven disc collectors edition years ago and it had a DVD documentary called 'Deconstructing War of the Worlds' and it felt like very little thought had gone in to it. The two videos you've done with him I would have happily bought as a Bluray package.
Wow! Thanks Drew!
I'm a huge fan, this album heavily influenced me and so many others!
@@Producelikeapro Me too, Sir. Have you heard his musical version of Spartacus? Starring Sir Anthony Hopkins and Catherine Zeta Jones. It's no WotW but it's not bad.
@@thatdrewrivers I’m going to go back and check that out now!
This deserves dozens of likes from me. What an incredible deep dive into one extremely amazing recording. Well done sir.
Thank you kindly!
This is incredible, what a great man. I first heard the album in around 1978-79 - a teacher played it to us at school and I was immediately fascinated by this incredible piece of music...still one of my most favourite records of all time - thank you Jeff!
Thanks ever so much Richard!
I remember that had 6 or 7 years old the first time that i heard the album. I was petrified. In Spain they made an edition with narrations and dialogues in spanish, so i could understand the story. Years later i listened the original voices, and of course, there is not compares with the original. Years later, bought the collector edition with the new surround mix and it´s amazing. Of course, thanks for the interview. It was very interesting.
Thanks for releasing this as well as the edited story. An absolute classic that has folliwed me from childhood from the original vinyl release, onto CD, through to the 2006 stage show at Wembley and onto the prequel of the immersive experience where I got to meet the man himself. Such a humble genius. Learnt so much from this interview so well done and thank you.
Saw part of this interview in Albums That Changed Music, good to see the full interview, really enjoyed it
Thanks ever so much
Anyone else jump to see when this was posted when he said they are touring again in a few years??
That will be wonderful
Just watched this again, what a wonderful, humble, talented man. Mike Oldfield and Tubular Bells next? 😎
Amazing! Absolutely!
Yes, Wally Heider Studios is still there, and still has a stellar reputation. It's now known as Hyde Street Studios. It's in a beautiful old Art Deco building that originally housed fireproof vaults for nitrate film. (It's a few blocks away from my office.)
Well done interview; thank you for giving Jeff the time to explain, and to let him talk uninterrupted👍🏻
The War of the Worlds is my ultimate favorite album!
Thanks ever so much! Jeff is a truly fascinating man and a wonderful talent!
@@Producelikeapro by the way, would love to see the interview with snippets of the songs inserted, right where they're being discussed in the interview.
Or maybe preceding their relevant section where Jeff discusses them. Or would that be a copyright issue?
Look forward to your documentary of visiting Jeff at his home 👍🏻
What a great conversation. I had to watch it in stages (Parts 1 through 4?) but man I enjoyed that. A seminal album for me at 15 when I first heard it. I lived in Sweden and was on a school trip. I remember being unable to do one of the outings and was left in the care of some grown ups (18-20) and me and these Swedes sat through the whole album. It was such an immersive experience and the album to this day remains in my top lists of go to/listen to albums. Loved that you took the time to discuss it all with Jeff. Kudos 🙏🙏
What a lovely, lovely interview - thank you for lining this up
Glad you enjoyed it!
❤Delightful ❤Thank you❤
I have this album its a masterpeace, nice paiting aswell,i scared the crap out off me wenn i was a child,i am 48 now and stil listen to it some times
Great to pick out the story of this legendary album! Regarding CBS: By that time CBS had Frank Zappa releasing the double album Sheik Yerbouti and his concept albumJoe's Garage Acts 1-3. So they were taking some risks in their catalogue at that time. Not to forget the triple Shut Up 'n' Play Yer Guitar with just guitar solos.
One thing I'm surprised they're not made is war of the world's film in cartoon musical in the vein of when the wind blows,
I wonder what would be like if you put the cartoon drawings from the album into art AI what it would come up with?
Interesting idea! You should take upon yourself and do it!
Love Jeff!
Me too!
I'm from Belgium, born in 1961 and (writing in Italic for some reason. Looks like the page is set-up to do so) I've always been a Hard Rock and later Heavy Metal fan, although for me it's not about genre or style but about the music. I got intrigued by "War Of The Worlds" because of the musicians involved. I mean, Julie Covington (from whom I got a single back then called "Don't Cry For Me Argentina", a thousand times better than what madonna delivered twenty years later); Phil Lynott, David Essex (whom I knew from "Gonna Make You a Star"), Chris Thompson from Manfred Mann's Earth Band and Richard Burton doing the narrative part, I mean, who wouldn't be sitting on the edge of their chair, eh? Bought the album end of 1978 and was immediately in love with it, despite my fellow hard-rockers having a suspicious eye on me. In those days at that age it was not done to listen or speak about anything else but heavy music, otherwise you were no longer worthy of belonging to the group. See if I cared. Anyway, "War Of The Worlds" by Jeff Wayne is one of the best concept albums ever made. In fact, it is THE concept album. I'm putting ths in front of Queensryche's "Operation: Mindcrime", Iced Earth's "Framing Armageddon", Pink Floyd's "The Dark Side Of The Moon", "Wish You Were Here", "Animals", and "The Wall", the Who's "Tommy" and every other concept album ever made before and after. Jeff Wayne did a marvellous job, because the music is incredible and the voices are astounding and everything fits so well together you cannot listen to the whole without the voices or listen to the voices without the music. And you can't forego the story at whatever time you'd jump into the music. Such splendour.
An interview with Jeff Wayne... Wow... Formative album
Thanks ever so much!!
Epic interview with three legends...Jeff Warren and Eric. What an interview! Well done! And as ever THANK YOU Warren for your channel.
Thanks ever so much!
I wonder why CZcams stopped pushing the brilliant content of this amazing channel to me? Well never mind, I'll just have to remember to check in every now and then to catch up. Thank you so much man for this lovely interview. Oh an BTW: I really like Jeff!! What a wonderful and talented person 😀
Thanks ever so much Ole! I really appreciate it!
2025, eh? I'd better clear some space for that, because I absolutely have to see this. I recently rediscovered the album and it's got me hooked.
Marvellous!
Two of the most memorable songs for this album... Justin Haywood's "forever Autumn" and "Thunderchild"
Agreed. Thanks for sharing William
Sorry I am a bit late but I have to say that was great. I would of loved to hear a bit more about Julie Covington... he voice melts me. Thanks for posting this.... respect.
Great suggestion!
Thanks ever so much!
Warren, thank you for this brilliant in depth interview.
Seen the live concerts twice, second time with Liam Neeson narration.
So many insights given here.
Jeff is a genius.
Thanks for these wonderful insights.
Thanks ever so much Joe! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
this was my first lp i brought with my own money,,, i saved up my pocket money and brought it.
Thanks you for this amazing interview Warren
Glad you enjoyed it Tim!
Amazing interview! Thanks Warren
Glad you enjoyed it!
FANTASTIC!!!! Pass me a glass of wine love !! im gonna be a while x
Thanks ever so much!
Fantastic interviewing Warren! Incredible album and wonderful information from Jeff.
Thanks ever so much I'm really glad you enjoyed the video!
As you say, this album is a masterpiece! I'd love for Jeff to release a 100% analogue audiophile remaster, based on the original mix (I'm not a huge fan of Gary Langan's remix) and pressed on 180g virgin vinyl. Maybe do it as a 50th anniversary boxed set?
My grandmother had a set of those grey ex Wimbledon tennis balls when I was a kid…but only 4 or 5 not a cupboard full 😉
That's awesome! Glad you know what I mean!
Cool, I just finished viewing the other one and just happened upon this one, of which I'm going to view in installments as I've a lot of housework to do!
Thanks Rob! Glad you are enjoying them! Good luck with the housework
@@Producelikeapro Ch'ah, sod the housework this is more interesting! I'm about forty seven minutes or so into it and boy what an interesting and enjoyable insight into this magnificent album!
@@Producelikeapro And thankyou very much Warren, cheers 👍
@@Producelikeapro Well... that was just great and a real eye opener with all things connected. I'm fifty-four now but the unscrewing of the cylinder still gives me enjoyable chills, with Herbie Flower's creepy chunky bass lines and the metallic scrapings of the lid, ha! I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's how Orson Welles and the '53 film, did the effects of the unscrewing also. Well the Sky is beginning to bruise down my way, so I'm going to get the washing off the line and do this sodding housework! Cheers again Warren for a ripper of a couple of hours! 🍻🎸 And a big "ULLA!" to ye!🐙🎸
That was amazing one of your best interview so far 👏.love the album so cool to get to know all the details behind the music.
I really enjoy your interview even if I am not to familiar with some the artist or producers It always interesting and entertaining to watch and listen to
Saw a rendition at Woking Centre Halls in 78
Amazing!
Fantastic! And I haven't even watched the interview yet.
Haha Thanks ever so much Carl!
@@Producelikeapro Incidentally, it was a thoroughly entertaining interview. 🤣
Epic interview ❤😎❤️🇬🇧
Thanks ever so much!
Thanks again. I think I’ve still got my “Woolies” cassette somewhere but your two videos reminded me to listen to it again (this time on Spotify whilst walking along Worthing seafront!). It really is an extraordinary piece of work and an amazing achievement. By the way, Michael Stipe said “Drive” by REM was influenced by “Rock On”.
Marvellous! Got to love Woolies for buying records back in the day!
One mystery for me was why WOTW made little impression in the US. It peaked at 94 in the Billboard charts. "Forever Autumn" couldn't crack the Top 40 in the US but was a #5 hit in the UK. Did CBS not promote it in the States? Was there no appetite here for "disco prog"? I only heard it because my older sister was an anglophile and loved all things proggy (especially the Moody Blues and Genesis).
Evidently CBS didn't. I personally hadn't heard of War of the Worlds until 1986. My dear friend had the LP and I was mindblown, Godsmacked and dumbfounded when I heard it.
Have you ever done a tour of Jeff's studio when you're back in the UK? :)
I wish you would add chapters
what does jeff feel about the new attack movie coming out?
Ahem... For a boy growing up., ANYWHERE.
Are the silent bits intentional?
What country are you in Rob? There’s only two countries that have blocked the audio Russia and Belarus. Thanks
@@Producelikeapro It's not the entire audio, just a couple of spots where Jeff is talking and the audio drops for several seconds. Scrolling back and replaying doesn't bring the audio back so it looks like the audio was muted in a couple of spots.
