Maybe before Alastor actually went after Zestial and walked away just barely but they grew to respect each other because sometimes fights bring people together. I love the theming of this whole scene: Zestial commands respect from EVERYONE. Alastor shows more respect to him than he does to Lucifer. But Velvette is a respectless upstart and proud of it. Are you implying that’s what season 2 is going to be? If so I think it’s only going to be the Vees next season sense they were part of the finale/ the show must go on song and maybe it will give us more info on alastor and if he gains his freedom or not. Not just Alastor. Carmilla killed an exorcist and is clearly a talented fighter. If she had enough, she'd wipe the floor with Velvet. We have no idea what the other overlords are capable of, but Husk is pretty powerful despite no longer being one himself.

Any overlord that is or can be put into a position to be killed or weakened by the other overlords will be. It’s to there benefit to not just think of the battle but of the events after the battle. Zest and all the overlords know that this is what the V’s plan is. The Viv did everything she could to rile up, provide, or inspire the overlords to fight back, knowing that win or lose many would be dead or too weak to stop the V’s from taking territory. Which is why the V’s stayed out of it and had that nice little song at the end of the season. Too bad for them several overlords saw through it.

I don't think al is smirking about velvette, he literally just always smiles as, like he said in the pilot "you're never fully dressed without a smile"
Also literally every scene the guy is in he's smiling, whether that be fighting, eating, talking, threatening and all.

What’s interesting for me is that it takes the 3Vs to match the power of one of the overlords proper - I reckon they’ll get what’s coming to them when they try to fuck with them in a way a touch more… audacious, than mere disrespect
I think combined they compete with the highest tier of overlords. Alone they are probably on the low end. But powerful enough to be overlords to be invited to the table.
