@@logan0309 back-and-forth and on-and-off is not a situationship, it's a badsituationship. A situationship can be very stable if both want it this way and do not have the desire to neither be possessed nor possess.
It's not for people who aren't content with themselves, or people who plan on having a family. Don't make such sweeping statements

Ah, so they invented a new word for “I don’t have the guts to push the button or get over it so I just linger in endless limbo,” got it. Glad I wasn’t afflicted with that goofy nonsense growing up. Even after rejection I always felt proud of myself for pressing on through the nervousness/fear.
So it's just new branding for "leading someone on" or "friend zoning" them. It has been around for ages but is only now being talked about to such a great extent.
