To improve your ground, place a milk jug or bucket of water near the ground rod with a pin hole in it to keep the ground moist. It will conduct electricity better in dry weather
Also, a couple tablespoons of salt in the water will increase conductivity.
An excellent suggestion. Another might be to GET A REAL GROUND ROD! Placed along the drip line of a roof edge keeps more moist. But honestly, my heart went out to Evan pounding those short stakes into what seemed, for all practical purposes, like cured concrete! Water is the most versatile lubricant and solvent. (And works wonders in clay soils---providing you can get it to penetrate...)
I did pour water on the ground rod/stake. To try to improve voltage on the fence. But I didn't include that part in the video. I didn't have much luck making it better.

When we cleaned the chicken house in preparation for new birds we cleaned the floor and then sprayed down the walls/cages to clean them. After drying we spayed the area with nicotine sulfate to eliminate insects and allowed the area to rest for about 10 days to break any pest cycles.

mount one of those old screen door springs to the top center of the chicken tractor frame and the attach it to the rope. when not towing it around the spring retracts and keeps the rope off the ground

I would put lime down or something to kill bacteria after cleaning before I put in fresh straw etc. for the chicks.
That'll help fertilize your yard too.
Multiple ground rods,put one long one next to the frost free hydrant when it drains every time you use it there's moisture, nothing will help as much as rain

You could also use a longer ground rod with the same fencer to save money.
We just found a nest full of eggs and floating them found some of the bad ones but not all so beware of the ones that didn't float!

Since the turkey tractor is so close to building power, locate the power supply there and run a fence wire to the tractor.
It's so frustrating for us when we find eggs in other areas rather than the nest box. We've been lucky so far, I like that you feed your questionable eggs to the pigs, my wife will boil ours and feed them back to the chickens. Good luck with the turkey and the up and coming chicks. On the absolute hottest day of my life we had a temperature of 104. And it rained no where else but my workplace. Which increased the humidity to far worse than it had been. I survived that day. But I never want to see it again. 😊
I can tell you both love your animals. They are given a great life there at your ranch.
I always have to look several times and when there is rain. I’m in Northern CA maybe the last time it rained was Feb/March?
With your nice garage/workshop, couldn’t you put the portable Turkey/Chicken tree and it would be out of the elements and weeds and not break down so fast.

I would suggest you get a small wheel barrow to use when cleaning in the barn. That way there would be less handling of the manure.
I'm not seeing it for some reason...Evan puts it in wheel barrow, then Rebekah takes it out of wheel barrow and puts it in TYM bucket. What am I missing? At first sounded like a good idea until I started (oh no-'thinking') Great video!😉

We were having small eggs from our chickens. I added some Omega 3 stuff to their water and they started laying larger heartier eggs with much thicker and stronger shells. It’s called Layer Boost with Omega-3 by durvet.
I like Rebecca in the video's 👍When feeding my neighbor's sheep I gave them some leaves from a wild plum tree. The sheep loved them. Do you have any wild plum trees?

I use a wood bit to drill in the ground.
If the chickens just started laying the eggs will get larger as time goes on, pullet eggs are usually small for a few months to a year then they get bigger.
Wow the pigs sure have grown fast. Turkeys are looking good. Glad to see this cooler weather finally moved back in. Great work guys
Evan, if you mow some hay I'm sure it will rain enough to let the ground rod work and make it easier to step in the turkey fence. It seems to rain every time you cut hay.

Hi, If if helps, I saw on another CZcams channel that before driving temporary fence posts, they used a drill and a drill bit to put holes in the dry ground first. Love the channel and seeing what you are doing to improve your land.

Greetings to all including animals. Rebekah, you and that guy who follows you around have good videos, always, but I think this was one of my favorites. It had it all - happy pigs, tractor work, working on (turkey) tractors, cleaning barns, chicken's egg surprise, adolescent turkeys, steer and Mia. (I saw you picking out the pit in the peaches..) Y'all's Carolina friend.
Might not need to let them out so early in the morning- wait until 11 am or so, by then most of them will have laid in the nest box by then.

You guys are lucky. Our state of Louisiana has been in a drought. Extremely dry. Hasn't rained in 42 days straight. Our highs during that time has been above 105 on up. Yesterday was 110. I kid you not. I was smart when I purchased land all the way up to 1 of the lakes and bayous that pass through our area. You could always put bucket with several small holes and let gravity do its job to keep ground moist near the rods.
You need to put a circulation fan to blow cool air through their pen because on windless days they might experience heat stroke !!! That gray tarp will absorb high levels of UV and radiate that heat INTO their pen !
That went well, got the turkey's moved and the barn ready for the new arrivals. Ham n eggs and peaches go well together too. Apples n beef goes well too, have to try some with peaches and see how they go together. Thanks for sharing with us, keep up the fun and the good videos. Fred.
I do think it is nice to find out that Rebecca can make goof ups too. I do it a lot it seems.
You are getting a great deal of experience with the different farm animals, and slowly, but surely, setting up the necessary infrastructure. So hang in there. This could be a dumb question, but I have no experience with ducks, and am not sure about the reason you have them.
I do have an idea for putting those small posts into the ground. I have seen people use an electric drill to make a hole probably a little smaller than the posts. It saves the work of hammering.
I do hope your weather has improved. We were Very Humid and Hot last week until a storm system came through, and with-it severe weather. I believe there were 7 tornadoes with the storm. One was about 14 miles from us and it rolled 17 semi-trucks and some cars over on I-96, in mid-Michigan. One EF-2 massively damaged a centennial farm about 3 miles from where my family lives and only 13 or so miles from us. And there are trees and branches down all over the place. It happened just as the schools were having the year’s first football games. We didn’t lose power, but it seems like most everyone else in the area did. That is certainly one occasion (as long as there was no damage) that your solar energy would be very useful.
What about the other side of the pond where the trailors were?
Hens laying anywhere can be surely frustrating. I have had several hens who refused to lay in there coop. Avoid releasing them until late afternoon. Maximum a week and you will be grateful

How long do you raise the turkeys? The turkey farm next to me feed them for about 20 weeks.
Which pushes them to close to 50#. Do you water glass any of your chicken eggs?
About 16 weeks on the turkeys. We'll freeze some eggs, we don't water glass them.

As for the eggs, we already had over 50 eggs in the fridge. More than we can eat. So the eggs we found will probably be given away. And we want to give away eggs that will stay good for a while.
