- Michael Kammermann brought once again to Gurnigel Hillclimb a legendary BMW racing car, and after the M1 ProCar, it was now time to see the "Batmobile" BMW E9 3.5 CSL in Max Attack mode at the Swiss Hillclimb, with its Inline 6 3.5L Naturally Aspirated engine echoing through the hills in all its 430Hp/8.300Rpm Glory delivering a spine-tingling soundtrack. And for a Race Car with over 40 years, it was still classed among the 15 Fastest Touring Car in the whole event!!

SPECTACULAR machine.
No sequential gearbox nor paddle shifters, sans all "driving aids" (traction/yaw control) , simply a PURE DRIVER'S CAR!!
Has to be a HOOT, and then some, to drive!! 💪👍
Full H pattern gearbox, no driver aids, this is a REAL car, modern Gen Z sim racers have been pampered by their sequential "gearboxes" and power steering.

Actually a double HH when there's more than 4 gears ...
This specific one is also reverted and more "race ready", see @marxxmann8758 comment below for more details.
Nowadays this is rare in races, remplaced by sequeltial gearbox (push for +1, pull for -1, like a motorbike) or more automated systems with steering wheel paddles.
(dont get me wrong, there's more variants, that's just a summary)

These dog leg gearboxes were in reverse pattern
1st gear left back
2nd gear forward center
3rd center back
4th right forward
5th gear right back
Reverse far left forward of 1st gear i remember my dad had 1 of these bmw German cars bmw and porsche had built this design in their early cars Britain had built the Jaguar xj like this as well they had a long 1st gear

Tuned racing bmw inline6 or alfa busso v6 are the best sounding engines to me. Better than any v8, only some v10 and v12 engines can match that glorious sound for me. What a car this is!
Go listen to the Judd V8 engined BMW or MB190 .... may be you like it as much and even more than this one.
@@INDIGOBLUE555 Yes true! That does sound amazing. Thanks for reminding me. Especially that famous white and blue M3 with the Judd V8. Unfortunately the driver lost his life in that car. Georg Plasa, good to honour him by the memory of the great footage of several hillclimbs.
But still the older bmw 6inlines and the busso v6 (both different in 24v, 12v sound more raw)both have their own distinctive sound thats recognizable in most versions which i find both fascinating and beautiful.

Old trick as in some old Ferraris. 1st is alone on the far left, in this way 2nd and 3rd are one in front of each other, being the most used gears in rally, you save some time .
