I have good memories of making the Matchbox Mosquito. I used to make models for the local model shop displays when I was younger - I made a couple for them.

Hi James! I have this kit from 1983. I got mine from the 'bargain bin' at my local hobby shop for C$4.99 (about £2.50) It was my first 'successful' build on returning to the hobby last year. It's a real honey...

The one that I built is on display at the Mighty 8th Air Force Museum in Pooler, Georgia USA. It was done in PRU blue with a bright red tail.

i have that matchbox kit in a revell box, and also the old tool airfix mosquito, simply because i have a fondness for the airfix gun nose mozzy, but also wanted a glazed nose version, and at the time i bought them (maybe 15 years ago now!) they were the only game in town.

I built several 1/72 Airfix mosquitos in the early 1970's probably 73/74, 4 of them as I recall

Unfortunately there's no rose tinted glasses for me with this kit. I built it as a wee lad and sadly one half of the fuselage had a horrible twisted warp to it. Managed to get the halves glued together but it left the tailplane looking very lopsided, (maintaining it as battle damage)😂
Despite all that, older me really does appreciate how good Matchbox were at the time.
    Looking forward to the build!👍

I liked both Airfix and Matchbox, but Airfix sometimes felt "ragged" whereas Matchbox was usually cleaner of line, but felt chunkier.

      @@rotwang2000 I would definitely say that's a fair assessment between the two.👍

Now I would have built the Airfix but at the time the MB was the only late model Mosquito there was.

I rember building the Matchbox Douglas Dauntless 1/32 scale, pretty sure it was my first 1/32 kit. it went together nice but I do recall being disappointed there was not many parts.. Maybe thats why I like miniart now lol. Are you going to build it
