    This is very insightful! I went to a masterclass of yours at West Chester University a few years ago and it completely changed my out look on the saxophone.

    Wow, your tone is so beautiful. I love the expression you mentioned: Playing simple melodies as beautifully as possible!

    This is very informative! Thank you for sharing your saxophone experience. I play on a Selmer Series 2 and like you mentioned, most selmers are inconsistent in the way they are built. I still prefer selmer for sure but I would definitely recommend Yamaha as well.

      Thank you! I prefer Selmer series II over series III. Sometimes I wish to have Selmer's great tone production & clean resonance but I guess we can't have everything in one saxophone!

    Wow! What a devine tone you get. Love the vibrato. Subbed.
    Speaking of price, the Selmer Supreme is more than twice the price of the Yamaha 875EX here.

      Thank you for your comment! I think Yamaha EX saxophones have the best value in terms of price and quality. You have to love Selmer saxophones to commit to their high pricings.

    Can you make a video on how much money you make as a classical saxophonist/how to make money as a classical saxophonist

      Hi Steve, thank you for your suggestion! That's a great and important topic. I will definitely consider it for the future content.

    Next time I go to Japan I will try to connect with you!
    Lovely presentation.
    I need a good “ True or natural sounding alto sax”, that I can push if need be.
    I love natural sounding set ups as well. Having said this, Could you recommend one?
    I am a professional musician. With your direction, I might also consider a vintage horn.
    Look forward to your reply.
    Best Wishes,
    Richard

    Great stuff for saxophone geeks! ;-)
    I was going to say that the difference you describe between the 875 and the EX in terms of tone is similar to the difference I've heard described comparing the Series II and Series III -- and then I saw your comment saying you prefer the Series II over the III, which makes sense.
    Hope to see you again at the Navy Band Symposium, once the world starts returning to normal...

    Thank you for your great videos! I have a Yamaha Custom 875 Alto purchased in early/mid 90s. I have always found it a bit more “resistant” as you describe. A highly regarded repair tech told me that many Yamaha models need the neck bore opened up slightly. I was hesitant but he was certain so I let him do it. The horn was immediately less resistant especially in low register and altissimo register and kept its great tone. Just curious on your thoughts here and if you have heard of players doing this. I have heard of other good repair techs doing the same thing as well

    • @wonkisaxlee
      @wonkisaxlee  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks for the comment. Changing the neck bore definitely affects the sound and resistant - I used to use G1 Neck, which was darker and more resistant, but now I am using V1 neck which has different bore structure and gives less resistant and brighter tone quality.

    Do you think that Yamaha is superior than Yanagisawa?

    • @wonkisaxlee
      @wonkisaxlee  Před 2 lety +3

      In my opinion, Yanagisawa saxophones are much more in tune and they play really well. I would say Yanagisawa is the most neutral saxophone. Personally I prefer warmer quality of Yamaha saxophones especially in the high register, so I am willing to work with tuning issues with Yamaha.

      @@wonkisaxlee i was owner Ex 875 manufactured in 2008, but now i have Instrument of 2020, it's more comfortable, concretely in fingering. And i think that conception of sound was changed too.

    Is it the same model as the 875ex and 875GP?

    • @wonkisaxlee
      @wonkisaxlee  Před 3 lety +2

      They are different. 875EX is newer than 875. "GP" means Gold Plated finish instead of regular lacquer finish.

  • @mariustripa7296

    how do you find this 875 compared to a 82 z ?

    • @wonkisaxlee
      @wonkisaxlee  Před 2 lety +3

      82z is much lighter and plays like extension of 62 series (you could say
      they are flexible) 875series are much heavier and warmer in tone quality.
