@OpenAI's new model GPT-4o was just unveiled & Gavin & Kevin broke our a special episode to dive into the launch.
The ‘o’ in GPT-4o stands for ‘omni’ meaning that it can do audio/voice, text and video all at the same time and in today’s demo they showed off not only those remarkable capabilities but the speed at which it can do those things.
You can easily interrupt the voice model and carry on a real time conversation but even better, it picks up on the tones and emotions in your voice in a way that does indeed feel magical.
We saw it do real time translation, help solve a math equation, and even have a conversation with itself, all with minimum flaws. And they teased that the next larger model is coming very, very soon.
Fun time to be in AI, that’s for sure.

Sat down now and gained access to GPT-4o for the first time just precisely when the video came up. Really impressive demo. Only a few interactions in now, and I'm still just probing its capabilities with website building.
Yeah we were pretty surprised last week when we played with the im-a-good-chatbot-2 model (which turns out to be GPT-4o) and wanna dive in more today and tomorrow. however, we didn't get the new voice mode yet which is the thing we really wanna spend time with.
You guys are great, I just subscribed and I’m looking forward to more AI coverage…especially this exciting leap forward! I’m 75 and have always loved being at the cutting edge of technology!

Hume AI released an emotional chatbot a few weeks ago that was sort of like this, but worse. Guess Sam Altman wasn't bluffing when he said they'd steamroll the competition.

yeah we actually demo'd Hume here on the show and found it to be really interesting but I wonder if ultimately Hume was just gonna get aquhired by Google or Meta anyways?

That uncanny valley closing the gap

Great job guys . I’m 46 and love to play fighting games ( The new MK for example). Finding friends to play with a limited amount of time has been rough as i got older. My dream is to have an Ai friends that can talk and help me progress .

How long do you think, until we can have it interact with our phone/pc? Imagine your working in unity or unreal and it can actually build stuff with you, instead of only giving instructions.
Well that was one of the things they showed off -- once they drop the ChatGPT PC / Mac app, supposedly it can see everything on your screen etc.
@@AIForHumansShow I get it can see your screen, which will be awesome, but will it be able to interact with it? Like asking it to create a script. Right now it just gives you the code; you have to create the script, then open it up in an editor, then paste the code into it. Or adding an object to a scene, or even using unreals visual scripting.

I almost wonder if This is going to turn out to be considered Black Monday in the AI developer area of the industry. This literally took away an entire years of work for every open source developer out there. Just makes me glad I didn't jump on that bandwagon and stuck with open AI because the payoff is good. You add this to Altman talking about lifting content restrictions within the boundaries of deepfakes so the user can generate erotic or Gore content. The game is seriously about to get real with chat GPT and open AI.
Hahah i actually couldn't believe that Reddit post was real but IT WAS. It does feel like OAI is going to dominate a lot of the near future for this stuff -- it just feels quite a bit ahead of not only the cutting edge stuff but also where the consumer wants to be.

Maybe that's why openAI is offering 4o for free, because it's going to get a deal with Apple. If it does this will be massive.
I can't even imagine having this be the thing that powers Siri - would really and truly be a game changer for hundreds of millions of people. ofc, what happens if it scales that big? no one really knows.

Do you remember how excited you were for that? I was THRILLED to use it and then like within maybe two weeks I realized that it couldn't really answer any question and the best thing it could do was set timers. Good lord, I hope we get it finally.
Now AI seems to be ready to replace politicians.
There's been a ton of deep talk about this eventually. It's pretty crazy to ever imagine possible but it might actually be better EVENTUALLY. For now, we're stuck.

It is "free" because we are the product and the interactions will train it.
That’s definitely part of it. Also, increased competition, and confusing messaging when someone says they’ve “tried ChatGPT and it’s not good” - but they were on an ancient model…
this is kind of the case with nearly all modern tech at this point though right? not saying it's a great situation.

No access yet for most of us, paid features, performance that will drop like a rock after the whole world is connected, no instant AI responses anymore at that point, privacy issues when you upload content.... it's nothing but a big infomercial. I have no doubt about the product itself, it's everything else I take with a grain of salt.
yeah i'm super curious (as I said in the video) what it looks like with even a fraction of it's DAU using this and how that stresses the system. but OpenAI isn't rabbit or some small start up anymore so I assume they've got a plan
Just what the establishment need. Can you imagine everyone's microphone and camera on their phone's being connected by this? The authorities (police etc.) can just check on you any time, plus they can even check where you have been, what you have done and what you have said at any point in the day (even turning your phone off would only diminish their power over you slightly). We are like giddy children at the moment, marvelling at this new toy, this new dawn, but this really is the beginning of the end of our independence in real terms. At least George Orwell doesn't have to live through his own visionary work, 1984. As for the rest of us, we're screwed so just enjoy your day to day if and whilst you can!

How can you claim it’s so good without having tried it out.
Well, this is a very good question. We're assuming that the stuff that was being done was *live* and we've spent enough time with the voice models to know how different that really was.
But you're right, we haven't actually tried it yet!

LLM's have plateaued at gpt4 is all i saw in this demo, looks like ai winter to me, this is literally just a result of nvidia new ai chips which allows for faster inference, not very impressive.
