Star wars has always been political. From the ot being a statement about the imperialism of America and a protest to the Vietnam war.
As someone who is gay and a nerd, we're not scared of gay people or lesbians. We literally do not care who you sleep with, we care about cool lightsaber fights, ships dog-fighting in space, and likeable characters with charm, quirks, and flaws and seeing them overcome those flaws to become better people.

Why does Disney go out of their way to hire people who either A. Have never seen Star Wars and/or B. Actively despise it?

I’ll say this again. Disney is the worst thing and I mean the worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. As a child growing up Star Wars was my escape and all I wanted to do was immerse myself in the world that George Lucas created. Star Wars was everything to me. It’s so sad. George Lucas was an artist who constantly faught to retain his artistic vision against corporation control by refusing money from corporations. When Disney bought the IP Star Wars, it was no longer art, controlled by an artist. It was an IP controlled by a corporation to make money.
And that could have worked out fine, if they just made more content that aligned with the IP. There is extensive lore already written that people enjoy. All they had to do was adapt Star Wars EU books to movies and they could be printing money by the billions every year. But Disney thought they could do it better, and encode a political message.

As a black Star Wars fan, i love how they keep crying racism in particular when these are same people that nerfed a possibly great character story arc of FINN. Turning him into a background character when he should've been co-lead alongside Mary-Sue REY. That, for me, would've been a great bonus alongside good storyline, first & foremost.

Diversity has indeed always been a part of the ongoing soap opera in space, but let me make this clear: there is a clear difference between hiring actors and actresses based off of their talents no matter what color they are to fit the character in the script naturally, and going out of your way to hire specific types of colors, bedroom preferences and personal politics to fill in check boxes while stonewalling others out. That's not diversity. That's selective choosing and I know you all know that. It might go unsaid that not everyone in the films were hetero and could've already had some of the first gay, trans, lesbian whatevers portrayed in the industry, but were background characters. We don't know, but we do know bad writing should be called out and we should not hide behind that reasoning just to hate on something more than said issue. Like the example prior, using a beloved IP people have loved for generations solely for the purpose of transforming it into a platform to push their own ideologies and politics unto others isn't cool either, not to take away that yes, Star Wars has most likely had political allegories within its premise. We can't forget that Star Wars was meant to be a fantastical adventure in space with wizards, good guys, bad guys and a magical power that helps both sides. The reason so many defend this silly premise, is because it was suppose to be escapism at its honest. It sounded silly, but garnered a strong and loyal fanbase of boys and girls. Imaginations run wild and more stories were written. Some bad, but gave us lasting characters that are well loved (Qui Gon and Darth Maul), and some so-so that did it's best to fill in some gaps. The heroes and villains taught us actual lessons through their journey...and now those lessons are reversed, or told as if they are easy to dismiss. "There are no bad guys, just misunderstood tragedies waiting to become the heroes", while the heroes are barely struggling not only with the weight of rising to the challenge of defeating their counterparts, but of relating with the audience by showing the strength the average Joe and Jane already had within them. Nothing of these "new" concepts inspire people to be better like Luke, Leia, Han and yes, even Vader in his last moments. I say all this to a particular commenter, because when people come to defend Star Wars, they're not commenting on defending the lightsabers, nor the alien puppets, or even the size and names of the ships. They're defending actual impacts the story and heroes left on them and through their lives.
How is that any more childish than whining online about how gay Star Wars has become?

I could give them a basic outline for an Old Republic trilogy about Revan. First one: Revan's youth and Jedi Training with Kreia. This could go into all sorts of philosophy about the force and whatnot. She sees all sorts of potential in her young Padawan, yet glimpses of him slaying Jedi and conquering worlds in a Mandalorian mask. Second one: The Republic calling the Jedi Council due to the threat of the Mandalorian crusaders. The Jedi Council rejects. but Revan and Malak accept it and combat the Mandalorians (also a cameo of Canderous Ordo and Carth Onasi). By the end of it, Malak and Revan are seduced by the Sith Emperor, Darth Vitiate. The Jedi that serve under them are also seduced. This begins the Jedi Civil War for the third one. Also Revan and Malak search for clues about an ancient Rakatan factory called the Star Forge. Third One: Revan's ship, the Leviathan, is boarded by a Jedi Strike team led by Bastila Shan. Malak uses this as an opportunity to destroy Revan's ship and become the Dark Lord. The screen fades to black. Then Kotor 1's light side storyline plays out. Obviously I'm not a talented or experienced writer or producer, but it's something. Hell, this could stretched out into 6 movies really. And I haven't beaten Kotor 2 yet or read the comics. So there's probably more I don't know about.

what i hate about all this inclusivity shit is that its so surface level. these people only talk about how gay a character is or that theyre female or a minority but nothing about a characters personal beliefs or what they fight for or what drivers their morals. there is no human connection in characters anymore, just how much they reflect the real world.
Over a decade ago, people called what was going to happen. Networks, studios, directors, producers and writers started including gay people more and more in their shows and movies and at first it wasn't a problem. But then people noticed what was actually happening. Gays weren't being included for the pure sake of inclusion, it was a marketing gimmick. It created a talking point, it caused ripples and sometimes it caused controversy. Add all that together and it equals viewership. But the problem is they turned it into a trend, and trends typically have short shelf-lives. This trend has been about squeezed dry, we know this because of how desperately networks and studios are fighting hard to keep it alive. The same people who fought to include gays in media (who only did so after it was easy I might add. They largely avoided including them until they realized it was safe for them to do so) trivialized them and essentially turned them into a product. A product (as the recent ticket sales, viewer numbers and stock prices indicate) that nobody is interested in anymore. They cashed their checks and as soon as gays are no longer profitable to them they will abandon them for the next hot thing. People need to remember that the next time they think a corporation cares anything about them.

Star wars was my comfort and escape but now I feel like everything I liked about it is being ruined to push other peoples opinions and agendas that I don’t feel benefit or make for a telling and interesting story that fits this fictional universe. If your main concern with a piece of Star Wars media, whether you're a showrunner, actor or actress, or a fan, is what skin color, gender, or sexual preference a character is, you are focusing on the wrong things. Period. The best examples of representation are when it is done naturally, is not called attention to, and is in service of telling a good story. People say "normalize this, normalize that," but to normalize something, you have to quit making a big deal about it. The Fallout show had a non-binary supporting character, and no one cared because it had zero impact on the story, and the main focus was staying faithful to the source material.
Someone’s sexual preference is the least interesting thing about them. Stop making it a plot point.
