This is not 100% accurate as these prices are in real terms not nominal terms as inflation increases so does the real prices of players. Whereas nominal values does not include inflation.
Adding to your point the money put up for a transfer isn't exactly the correct amount of money. They forgot about clauses and extra fee's and also wages aswell

That's just a career history. That's just what happens to a talented player. High prices at a young-ish age and then they just kind of die down and retire. I just think Sterling has bloomed a bit too early, like Michael Owen.

No I'm not, I'm just saying that's what happens to players, their value increases, sometimes slowly, sometimes drastically (like Sterling's) but once his time at Man City has past and he's unable to provide at that level anymore, they'll ship him off to another team who can make better use of him. It's a fact of life as a football player. Sterling won't leave City for anything higher than £49,000,000, unless he becomes even better and signs for Real Madrid for £150,000,000. So it happens with Sterling, so it happens to all players.
