I would have put Fritz Walter in the list.
Because he was not just a great footballer who won the world cup 1954 as the captain in the famous "Walter-Elf" and the german championship three times, he also was a hero and rolemodel for the poor and frustraded people in germany after the war.

Ali Umar I agree. He's still so young He'll break the World Cup record if he plays at 2 more, which, avoiding injuries he should do. Plus he's just insane. Neuer might get ahead of Kahn one day but not yet in my opinion. Lahm should be in over Klose also.

A great list! Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Neuer and Müller could all be placed among them sooner or later! But who´s gonna be replaced? Beckenbauer, G.Müller, Klose and Matthäus are fix for me ... Germany really needs two lists by now : 1945 - 1990 and 1990 -201X :D Or just Top 10´s, that would work as well :P

Personally wouldn't include Klose against the likes of Lahm. He's been brilliant at the world cup and done well at club level but never THAT good for clubs. Still been a brilliant player of course, just not top 5 German worthy in my opinion.
Ronald McBanter I agree. Gerd Muller is the best German striker ever. Klose was a great striker, but in terms of being an all round player he's not great. He did his job. However, Lahm does his job better and is a much better player. Both great though.

Saffa Plays Schweinsteiger, Lahm never ever top 5, Lahm will reach the top 10 but Schweinsteiger will barely make it into the top 20, there are so many better german players. But I agree with Paul Breitner

Schweinsteiger and Lahm both deserve to be in the top 15, but I could not rank them above 5th.
Fritz Walter was good at this time, but the players of then were definitly not on the level of any of the top 20 players of all Time.

And please don't overrate these old players, football has become much more difficult to play nowadays and the requirements to become one of the best are on a way higher level than these of 50 years ago. While they have been great at their time if they played on the same level they played when they were professional players they wouldn't make it today.

My philosophy is when you say "top 10 players ever", it's the top 10 players in their skill inlcuding how football changed over the years. When you say "top 10 players of their time" it's about who was great at his time, or who was ahead of his time.
1) Gerd Muller.
2) Franz Beckenbauer.
3) Miroslav Klose.
4) Lothar Matthaus.
5) Oliver Kahn.

I think Ballack has to be in there, too. He was the best player for a long time, even if he didn't won a title. Lahm deserves it maybe even more.

People who say that Neuer is better than Khan was are little kids who never saw Kahn. He made saves that you would never think could be saved. If you saw Khan play in his best years you would know that Neuer isn't as good.

I think there should be at least a 54 player. The biggest contender is Helmut Rahn or Fritz Walter. The 54 World Cup is not only important in the history of German football but the whole of Germany itself. Some other German legends are Kalle, Uwe Seller, Paul Breitner, Lahm.
Would definitely put Sepp Maier in there. One of the best keepers in history. Might also replace Klose with someone like Lahm or Walter, but a good choice.

actually, mario zagallo appeared in 5 world cup finals, one more than beckenbauer, twice as a player in 1958 and 1962, twice as a manager in 1970 and 1998, and once as an assistant manager in 1994
John Chakkour Beckenbauer still is the most successfull European footballer of all time. And won the Champions League 4 times btw. - not just thrice. He won it again with Hamburg in 1983 - his very last season as an active footballer. Also reached another Champions League Final as manager of Marseille in 1991 and another UEFA Cup Final as a player of Hamburg in 1982. Bronze medal with Germany as a player at 1970 World Cup.

Comments: Never really saw Müller T. on the left midfield/wing, though since played on right side he could switch with Walter F..
Hardest decision for me was the goalkeeper. Simply too much world class keepers over the whole time. Just to mention a few which would be worthy of being in any national team: Turek, Kleff, Tilkowski, Schumacher, Stein, Köpcke, Lehmann. It's hard to choose between Kahn, Neuer and Maier, especially Neuer ist the most complete footballer of all of them, but I still think Kahn has a tiny edge as a keeper.
A bit the same problem are the strikers/forwards. Undoubtedly Müller G. outranks everybody else on this position. Klose simply is chosen, cause he has the most goals, both for team and WCs. Seeler imo has a slight edge over a lot others, like: Völler, Hrubesch, Fischer, Heynckes, Hoeneß U., Walter O., but especially Klinsmann was a hard decision between Klose and Seeler.

Oliver Kahn is the best keeper ever. Coached by Sepp Maier and the coach of Manuel Neuer. Neuer could still become the best keeper ever. Gerd Muller was better than Pelé in all honesty. Beckenbauer or Moore is the best central defender, I can't chose. I think Philip Lahm HAS to be in that list. How can you not have him there?

Neuer can get there, but needs to improve. No, Pelé is better, he was a better dribbler, assister and poacher. Backenbauer all the way, Moore is overhyped by British Media.
