  • @Galbalan
    @Galbalan Před 28 dny +8

    I agree, this month really has been a mad rush of indies! Usually I'd wait for deep discounts, but I can't resist supporting...
    That's a nice selection. Thinking about getting Indika, Little Kitty, and we'll see about Hauntii sometime.
    Thought you might be curious, what I've picked up recently... just in case you hadn't heard of these.
    Here are the indies I've picked up this busy month (by release date):
    -With My Past (has a demo... mostly simple puzzles along with a relatable story about forgotten dreams and coming to terms with the past? Only played the demo so far.);
    -Grønland (requires RPG meandering, no combat, but and adventure to piece together the lost memories; kept me going to completion);
    ...And you already mentioned Crow Country, Animal Well, and 1000xRESIST! (I was on the fence about the latter, but your video review convinced me :D);
    -Athenian Rhapsody (has a demo! a very goofy game, might be described as Undertale's little brother? I need an OST...);
    -Braid, Anniversary Edition (enjoyed the original, and this re-release with all its refinements should help it live up to the nostalgia, I hope; at the very least the director's commentary should be enlightening);
    -Master Key (has a demo, but I bought it blind; Looked like the best of old Zelda-like adventures... with a fox! I've got my hopes up, and don't want to spoil it.).
    Beyond those, a few yet on my radar for this month (by release date):
    -Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago (Could be a dud? It's an idler/misc raising sim I happened upon. Tamagotchi for little heroes? But it does potentially look cute and entertaining, if not too shallow or short.)
    -Pampas & Selene (On my wishlist because I enjoyed their previous platforming works, Unepic and Ghost 1.0. And it has online multiplayer! Perfect with a friend, I hope.)
    -Isles of Sea and Sky (Reminds me loosely of Void Stranger? Might be too much puzzle torture for me, but I've enjoyed the music in their trailers and I think it'll be worth watching for.)
    -Three Goblin Wobblin' (Hahaaa. Haven't tried the demo... and the trailer looks ridiculous. Don't expect much, but sometimes a silly game is silly fun.)
    -Selaco (One of the few FPS games I've been waiting for. Ever since I saw that second trailer on their steam page, I've had it wishlisted. Great potential if it really sounds and plays like that.)
    Lastly I'll mention the early access game, Abiotic Factor, (that Half-Life-ish game) as another multiplayer game on the eventual wishlist.
    It's raining indies !

  • @criwall

    This year is absolutely crazy when it comes to indies, the games released in may alone would make for a a pretty decent year. And we already had Balatro, Pacific Drive , Children of the Sun, Another Crabs Treasure and Felvidek to name a few and later we will at least get a few of Silksong, sequels to Pony Island, The Case of the Golden Idol, Steamworld Heist, What the Golf (with cars this time... yes, seriously), Never Alone and Cat Quest. Amanita Design has a new game upcoming. A new Monster Prom game (they are stupid fun in a group of like minded people), I have like 100+ upcoming things on my steam wish list that looks interesting and almost everything is Indies and who knows what games we don't know about yet... AAAmight be in a pretty rough place right now, but indies are thriving. let's just hope they get the recognition many of them deserve.

    Crow country is absolutely amazing, particularly for fans of survival horror. But even for those who have never played something in the genre, I think this is a great entry point as it takes many of the "clunky" mechanics of old school survival horror and streamlines them. Great story and characters, fun gameplay, not too hard, and only about 5-6 hours long. Perfect!

    Good list. Nice to see a video by somebody who's tuned in. I've been having fun playing through Animal Well myself, looking forward to trying out 1000x resist and Lorelai and the Laser Eyes.
    Of the indie games not on this list, I have to recommend:
    Rabbit and Steel - another May 9th release. Lots of fun with friends. FFXIV style raids without all the baggage of having to spend 100 hours running through the story first. Can't think of any other games that fill this particular niche. Surprising amount of content too: in one run you fight about 20 raid encounters / bosses from a set of ~50. When you take into account the fact that every enemy has a very different attack pattern on depending on the difficulty setting and the number of players, you're looking at around 800 different bosses. I've been having a blast bashing my head into the wall that is hard mode (which is only the second hardest difficulty).
    Anthology of the Killer - An anthology of 9 smaller games which have been available for a while, this released on itchio on the 28t. Horror comedy game, although more horrifying than scary, which is unusual. Not normally one for horrors, but this worked well. Gameplay wise, a walking sim. Well written, both comedically and substantively. Solid worldbuilding and surprising depth: has a good deal to say if you're willing to interface with it. I've been thinking about its ending since I finished it, and I imagine I'll be thinking about it for a while longer.

    First video of yours that I've come across. I like your style. chill and mellow, which is the vibe of most indie games. Nice work

    Calling these games "Indie" will that term is being watered down doesn't seem to do them justice. They feel like literature as they have a distinctive style or something to tell. As they are games and some of them have forward thinking gameplay I think they deserve the moniker LUDUCRATURE. The Latin word for game, ludus, should give enough GRAVITAS to indicate that these are not average entertainment games.

      They are definitely forward thinking games. Glad you like the selection.

      Idk, seems okay for an indie game that look a long time, and has 10+ hours of game?

      Simple indeed. Thanks for your click and comment, it all helps with the algorithm. I would posit that "clickbait" is an ungenerous assessment. Hyperbolic? Maybe. Attention grabbing? Intentionally. True? ... Yes.
