I now want the mario movie to be a gump-esque jaunt through mario's dark years
Hahaha the only way the movie could be salvaged.
like Forrest Gump? Or my jaunt through marios dark years?
@@JComX I think Donkey Kong Circus was suppose to be a prequel to Donkey Kong.
@@JComX can you imagine if Donkey Kong Circus had fused with the Mickey variant to be half Construction Site half Circus?
6:10 Basically the Game & Watch series in the 90s
Lmao
The amount of polish on these videos is amazing!
Thank you! I try my best!
Bro, Your Chanel deserves much more subscribers and your videos more Views, since i watched the first video of your G&W series i become a fan of your work, You're Great
Thank you so much!
This is so high-effort.
There's so little content on panorama/tabletop game and watch.
AND you' went into how it works, how they made the color. I haven't seen anyone else do that.
Wish your channel had more attention, you deserve it.
Thank you so much! That's the whole reason I wanted to make this series. I couldn't find the Game & Watch videos I was looking for, so I made them myself! I'm so glad you liked it!
hahaha I loved it!!! Also..... 4:04
JComX: "You TELL me what kind of SICK FREAK is gonna use this like an actual clock!?!"
Cat-eared leaf-griller: "......whatd...?"
JComX: "E W !!! heheh"
Lmao am I wrong??
@@JComX oh you were right! I just spat out my food when that bit happened! 😂😂 Had to timestamp
@@kingshedinja hahaha 😁
When this popped up in my notifications it made my day. These videos are phenomenal.
Your comment just made my day! Thank you for watching!
Interestingly, Nintendo mixed up the model numbers on Donkey Kong Circus and Mickey Mouse. Donkey Kong has the number MK-96 and Mickey Mouse has the number DC-95.
Oh that's right! I forgot about that bit of trivia! It makes sense, cuz those two games are pretty much the same, and neither released inside Japan.
Ayy the table top and panorama games!
One of my favorites! including DK’s origin and rage against Mario, Mario in the Vietnam war, And
Strong to the finach, because he eats his spinach, IT’S POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN!
It's such a cool series, I love when these games are obscure games that Nintendo doesn't talk about much. I never knew Mario went to war.
In presumably Vietnam no less.
(Also interesting to hear someone put DK circus as the 2nd to game in the classic DK timeline instead of the first)
@@internetpawn3542 it's 100% Vietnam. Like, canonical probably not, but I looked into it and there weren't any other jungle-wars going back for several decades before the 80s, so even if they didn't mean to (although I think they did), the result is Vietnam.
@@JComX huh, I never knew that till now.
Speaking of jungle elements and I guess burning fire (Cuz there was plenty of that in the game and war)
What made you place DK circus at the near end of the Classic DK timeline? Rather than the first like some people have in the past.
@@internetpawn3542 I saw that other people put it earlier, and that would make sense too, but I guess I was thinking about it from the perspective of when the games were made. Since DK circus came out after the others, I saw it as Mario and DK reuniting, rather than it taking place around original Donkey Kong. With these early Mario games it feels like he's jumping around from job to job a lot, so it makes sense that he might find DK again and try a circus thing later on. But I think it's totally valid for it to take place earlier.
A prototype of Vermin was an arcade
Also, Bri'ish JComX was FUNNY
I love the art design of these games!
@@Queefy me too!
imagine if in mario 2, the first time you pull up a bomb, mario has ptsd and the level turns into a jungle, with shy guys in Vietnamese military uniforms and bush-wearing sniffit versions of the flower shy guys from yoshi's island.
So I've always had this weird fascination with Popeye's influence on Nintendo/video games in general, and this video helped remind me that...yeah, the Tabletop/Panorama G&W version is still the best video game adaptation of Popeye ever.
Which is...insane? The guy's had a Nintendo-developed arcade game, three Gameboy games, a _Switch_ game, and even a beach volleyball spin-off for the Game Gear. And literally the _only one_ where you fight a big dude to save Olive Oyl and get stronger via spinach is in an LCD game that's nearly 40 years old.
I know Popeye isn't exactly the superstar he once was, but damn, it's like nobody even bothered to try. Fight bad guy, eat power up, get stronger, save wife, make it sailor themed. It ain't exactly rocket science, right?
(By the way, another impeccable video, man. Been enjoying the hell out of this series, keep it up!)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like the video. I remember when I saw the first Popeye game I was also fascinated by the inclusion, as well as the whole story about Donkey Kong being planned as a Popeye game. I went researching about Japan's relationship to Popeye, like was he a big deal, or was it just a thing to appeal to the U.S. or something. But no, Japan apparently loved Popeye, he was popular there too! I thought that was great, cuz I grew up loving the cartoons!
Thanks so much for the effort put into these!! I love all these videos, when you wrap it up a fun bonus look at Nintendo Mini Classics keychains would be awesome cause I just discovered them, keep up the great work!
Not to mention the Donkey Kong Panorama is a prequel to the arcade!!! Donkey Kong steals Pauline at the construction site after he's fed up with entertaining Mario. Would love for you to upload all the art from these videos to your Twitter or something too it's great
@@wesleysexton8774 that's not a bad idea! I didn't even think about that! I'm so glad you like the videos! Thank you for watching! ^_^
Donkey Kong's box art the multi screen game box art
This was great. I love the animation and writing! So happy I found this channel!
Thank you so much! Welcome!
Your videos are absolutely fantastic!! I can't believe you don't have more subscribers!! I love the Game & Watch, and this series is so fun and informative!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like them! I'm currently working on a new video now, so stay tuned! ^_^
I love this. It is the best one yet!
Aw, thanks, Beany Bizzol! XD
Idk how I just found this channel, but I'm so glad I did!! I too have a Game & Watch obsession
Haha then you've come to the right place! I hope you enjoy the videos! :D
@@JComX sure thing!
The color in tabletop and panorama games were beautifyl. They look like tiny playable cartoons. I agree that Snoopy isn't that much fun. In fact it's one of the few Game & Watch games I don't find fun to play. Mario Bombs Away is great fun!
Yeah, it's a shame, cuz I like Snoopy and the art is great, but it's just a bit of a snooze. Mario's Bombs Away is more fun than any of the others imo. More fun than it has any right to be. That's kind of how I feel about Fire Attack too. Fun and unique game play, but with a shitty coat of paint. :P
You know, the footage of the revered polarizer is pretty rare to see. So the fact that you’re showing it is actually really freaking cool.
(Makes me wonder what other games would look like with the polarizer reversed)
It also inspired me to take a screen shot of the little G&W walking around on screen to make me a pride month pfp
Haha I thought it would be cool to show that in the video too! I'm glad you like it! I think a pride month pfp would be perfect for it!
I do love Game And Watch
What a legendary series. I know they didn't sell well, but it's all about the impression. Tabletop arcade cabinets are so underrated, y'know? And the work with that LCD is very innovative.
I've always deeply respected Nintendo's design philosophy. Do what you can with what you've got, and make it something new.
The Panorama series also seems very neat. Do they fold up in any way? They look like they do.
Also, I think your timeline for Mario is a bit off, so here's mine:
I assume that Mario Bros. occurs in the year it came out, 1983. The Vietnam War had direct American involvement from 1965 to 1975. I assume Mario is American, since neither Japan nor Italy fought in the Vietnam War. Therefore:
Mario is the son of Italian immigrants who came over to the USA from Italy after the Second World War. He grows to be just old enough to be caught by the draft for the war after he's done with school (I guess this would make Mario a Baby Boomer), and he fights in Vietnam.
After the war, he comes home and has loads of trouble, as many Vietnam veterans did and do. He tries his best to work, but can only end up doing odd jobs every so often. These are the other Game & Watch games.
And then he finds Donkey Kong after Kong tries to kidnap Pauline. After Mario defeats Kong, he begs for mercy and shows that he's just a funny monkey by juggling; this is the Donkey Kong panorama. Look at Mario's face, he's clearly surprised that Donkey Kong is doing that. He's not making him or coercing him. He takes him and trains him for entertainment and fun. Puts him on display at a circus. But Donkey Kong escapes and runs off to have his Donkey Kong games, so Mario and Luigi become plumbers in the original Mario Bros., fall into a warp pipe, end up in the Mushroom Kingdom, and there we are, Mario's early days set.
Donkey Kong actually faced Stanley the Bugman first, I'd say; that was while Mario was away at war or working odd jobs. Then all the Donkey Kong games occur more or less in the obvious order.
But that's just what seems to be for me. I don't know one way or another.
I don't imagine Miyamoto does, either.
I agree! I think R&D1 was so clever in the way they were able to circumvent the limitations of technology to make cool, but cost-effective games!
I think that timeline works well too! Lol I just have fun with this earlier timeline, but in reality it's hard to have a definitive canon for it, cuz Nintendo themselves don't recognize half of the G&W games as canon anyway. And I doubt Miyamoto would even consider the G&W games, since he didn't work on them, it was Gunpei Yokoi and the others at R&D1, and it seems like they were just throwing Mario in games that would have normally just had the generic Mr. Game & Watch characters in them otherwise.
@@JComX Yeah. Mr. Game and Watch should be the boss of the next Mario game.
A new episode of this, what a wonderful late birthday gift ^ ^ Really love the way your videos are edited and the humor. Keep the good stuff coming!
Haha oh wow, when is your birthday? Also, thank you!
@@JComX It's the 25th :p And no problem at all!
@@-riddlex4135 oh dang, Happy belated Birthday! A lot of my friends have April birthdays, so last Saturday we went out to and did arcade and karaoke! Did you do anything special for your bday?
@@JComX Woa :0 I wish I had an arcade in my area, they seem awesome. I live in a pretty small village, so there isn't really much to do here on a birthday, but I had friends over and we had cake, so it still was a fun time haha
@@-riddlex4135 aw, I feel that. But bein with friends is definitely more important, imo. I'm glad you had a good time. :)
Ok, I have a theory on Donkey Kong Circus. It takes place before Donkey Kong. Think about it. Donkey Kong is mistreated at the hands of Mario, which causes him to break free and kidnap Pauline as revenge.
And if you're wondering what Mario's doing in a circus, he might actually be a performer, as evidenced in Donkey Kong 94, where if you stay on the title screen for a bit, Mario is shown to perform a little acrobatics show for an audience. It'd make perfect sense for Mario to be a performer, due to him working many jobs, especially in these game and watch titles.
It's a bit of a farfetched theory, but it's what I stick with in my headcanon. Soooo yeah.
I think it makes a lot of sense. I mean, why would Mario have a pet monkey in the first place. I was mostly joking with my version of the timeline. XD I was trying to keep it in chronological order of release, but honestly, it makes more sense that it would just take place before the Donkey Kong arcade game.
6:11 pensaba que era el unico que pensaba que esa musica era genial
18:27 to me this is a prequel to donkey kong (1981)
Amazing as always, bud!
Thanks, Pacster!
Actually the cut scene in donkey Kong jr. between level 2 and 3 does show jr. Going after Mario via an umbrella and they do play “can can” in the background, so the music makes sense.😅
Ohhh you're right! Lol
The color really was a fun change of pace from the standard G&W JComx we're used to seeing. And, as usual, killed it on another vid! The war segment was hilarious especially, but the whole thing was the crux between informative and entertaining. Well done!
Daw, thank you! Haha I'm glad you liked the war bit, I was really happy with how it turned out. ^v^
4:05 but you tell me what sick freak is gonna use this like an actual clock sick freak: what? JCOMX: Ew!
The production quality of your videos are amazing! Really enjoyed watching this. Keep at it my guy!
Thank you! I will try!
I have a little arcade cabinet Game & Watch of Donkey Kong Junior. It's basically the same as the one covered here, but it's orange (like Mario's Cement Factory) with white controls and has Coleco branding. But it's shaped like the Nintendo hardware, not the previous Coleco ones. I guess Nintendo still had a deal with them as they transitioned to making their own?
Oh yeah, I know the one you're talking about. It matches more with the actual DKjr arcade. You're probably right with the Coleco deal.
6:08 this is my favorite part
Hahaha it can't be a coincidence!
Can you then do the origin of Wario? (oh, right you don’t know him.)
@eeeeeee5233 the legend himself! One day I will do a video on him!
Oh great anyway can I tell you my favorite game and watch panorama game?
@eeeeeee5233 of course!
This was uploaded on the 11th anniversary of Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil (aka the worst animated film of 2011 (but still my favorite))
it's an arcade for a doll's house
coleco be like: NINTENDO COPIED US.
Nintendo: UH no and we want our donkey kong franchise back!
coleco: your table top games are just weak compared to mine
nintendo: *falcon punch*
Coleco: im dead.
What's the name of the episode from Snoopy Peanuts, JComX? 10:11
It's from the movie called: A Boy Named Charlie Brown!
Another game and watch episode make the other new wide screen series episode
What is Marios problem with monkeys and turtles? Such a dick!
Another fantastic video, my friend!
Haha thanks, Grumpeh! Someone needs to call PETA on this man!
