Matt Patricia: wants you to do things he’s never done
Dan Campbell: wants you to do things he’s done before and WILL do them with you
Well Patricia never played and Dan Campbell did, so of course Patricia can’t do things that he asks his players to do. The problem was personality and not respecting his players. Dan Campbell played in the league obviously but he goes out of his way for his guys, treats them with respect and never throws them under the bus in public. To Patricia’s credit he tried to change his ways a little bit towards his players after his first season, but it was too late and he couldn’t get total buy in because of how he rubbed players in his first year. Campbell came in immediately and garnered respect from his players. Year one was shitty but I expected that with how bad Patricia bungled the roster and gutted the defense. I don’t wish Patricia any I’ll will and respect what he tried to do, but I I’m completely bought in to Dan Campbell. He’s the real deal and a true leader. The culture is vastly different with him in charge, whether he leads us to the playoffs and beyond remains to be seen but as he players are willing to die for him on the field, and the lions have had a coach who has had that level of love and respect in decades
I think Campbell would rather his players not go through a winless season. Judging by the tears when they still hadn’t won a game last year halfway through.

Well, plenty of good football coaches never played at a high level. Patricia was just an asshole and i think almost felt insecure around his players.

Never should have fired Jim Caldwell for Patricia to be there in the first place
Caldwell was NEVER gonna win a playoff game in Detroit, he was obviously better than Patricia, but his teams played WAYY too conservative to win against the top teams.

I’m a Bears fan that had no idea of who Dan Campbell was before he became Detroit’s HC and at this point I respect the man. He’s a cool fella that was way better than what his first year coaching record depicted.

Patricia was dogshit, worst coach in Lions history, but Caldwell was NEVER getting the Lions past 9-7. Once Suh left the defense was not good at all and no run game under Caldwell...his coaching was too conservative to win against any of the best teams.

Learning from good example is not “trying to be like” someone he knows. He just seen how the tone is suppose to be set and the best way to do it, ya he should probably add a little more of his own personality but how many guys do we know in the work force who work like the guys who came before them ?
