      The position of King and prime minister in the 1950s and early 60s were separate and not one person could hold the two positions.

Faisal al-Saud was king between 1964 and 1975 and he was foreign minister during the aforementioned 1947-48 period, where the picture at the UN was taken. His premiership only started in the 50s and was short-lived, as said before, he ascended to the throne in 1964 and not the 70s, at which time the prime ministry was no longer seperate from the king (and of course the legal term of "prime minister" obfuscated and still obfuscates the fact that it's one royal family giving each other the top jobs in an absolute monarchy, where nepotism is the rule)

    Those "British" troops shown at the beginning looked more like Commonwealth troops. The Australian 8th Division was very active in the region and include Lighthorse regiments. My dad was sent as a reinforcement for one such Lighthorse regiment. Famously, they attacked and defeated the Turkish garrison at Beersheba. Supposedly, this undermined the importance of the Arab army led by Colonel Lawrence and diminished Prince Feisal's bargaining power over division of the Middle East.

  • @Gameflyer001
    @Gameflyer001 Před 5 lety +166

    It is important to note that Jewish immigration to the area didn't just happen leading up to and after WWII. There were five periods of Aliyah (Immigration) to the Mandate, from 1881-1939. The first Aliyah occurred while the Ottomans controlled the area, and was largely a failure, as most of those who immigrated there, later left within a few years. The second one was quite important (1904-1914), as this was when significant retention of Jewish emigres from Europe and other parts of the Middle East existed, and was also the eventual backdrop for the Balfour Declaration in 1917. The Zionist movement wasn't really much of a factor in these Aliyahs until much later, as much of the early moves were due to economic and farming opportunities.

      As for current UN, it is a hive of progressives and globalists. They'll praise your left leaning governments, and shout at your neoconservative governments. Nothing new. Nothing really against you either: the UN as it is now, is mostly harmless to the UN, as it has always been. Unlike what it does with other nations. The Migration Compact comes to mind.

The UN isn't blocking you in any way, it's only serving the interests of those who put the money in: the _American_ globalists, mostly. That's the underlying issue of the postmodern era: states and organizations have been completely corrupted and overturned by globalist mega corporations. Still, the UN has been the US's puppet for the bulk of its existence, and is now the puppet of the richest Americans, who overtook it in lieu of the government. A trend that has repeated itself so many times for the last 50 years. Even your Federal Reserve is a private company, acting in the interests of those who control it, not in the interests of the people.

I would find it interesting if you went into more detail on the guerilla and internal situation of British Mandate in the future, as topics like the essentially fascist Stern Gang/Lehi as well as how the Zionist militias in the regions later served to shape the military and political situation in Israel and the region are both extremely interesting.

      @Pasdar While I am an ardent Anti-Zionist Jew (I actually support Jewish Labour Bundism, another thing that is not known about nearly enough, and is likewise extremely interesting) and I do completely agree with you when it comes to the fascistic nature of Israel, (both in the Marxian economic sense of being used as an instrument to mobilize the working class in defence of capital through their nationalist, colonialist, and conscription policies, as well as in the colloquial sense) a bit more tact when it comes to the Nazis would be nice.
      Also, I do personally know several Israelis and I think we need to be very active in differentiating between the working masses and the general populace of Israeli, who are pressured and indoctrinated into supporting the state, and the ruling cliques of the military, Likud, and the capitalist class who create and mantain systems they are forced to adhere too. After all, there's no better way to make someone a fascist then forcing them into that box by nature.
      In addition, I do think it should also be noted that existing Arab organizations, most of which likewise stand for oppressive structures within their own societies and can not be fully trusted as an alternative to Israeli power. Hamas would be a key example. Instead we should look to build up and support both genuinely humanitarian organization supporting both anti-imperialism and bilateral solidarity, rather than somekind of reactionary national liberation movement that will merely start the cycle of injustice anew. Now obviously, you never explicitly said otherwise, and his use of the terms of the phrase "so-called Palestinians" here is sickening, but those are just my thoughts on the matter.

Now a civilian he had just acquired a merchant marine captains license. The CIA contacted and hired him (he called himself a "vendor") to take an acquired decommissioned Canadian Navel frigate named the Hollowell, from the Brooklyn Navy Yard where it residing and sail it to Haifa in Israel. However, he would have to break the British blockade at Gibraltar, who were aware of this secret gun running mission (the ship was loaded with weapons and cigarets) to Israel. What resulted was story with MI6 saboteurs, a hurricane and a cat and mouse chase through the Greek isles in the Mediterranean between the British Navy and my grandfather George Stathos, who is indirectly responsible for the birth of the Israeli navy.
